Always With Us

As we move through life we have "frameworks" around us
Of families and friends who lend us support.
But sometimes we find ourselves standing alone.
It is then we reach up and the Lord's help we court.

But all of the time He was standing quite near,
Ready to reach out and give us His hand.
When leaning on others we sometimes forget
It is Jesus Who steadies and helps us to stand.

He is our source and help for each day.
When we're not strong He always is able.
No matter the depth of the storms we go through,
We're never alone but in Him will be stable.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39 KJV

Guarding Our Focus

Sometimes in our "walk"
Our attention span will wander.
When we're off on "bunny trails",
God's purpose we may squander.

Keeping focused in the Lord
Is manna we should savor,
Lest glancing off to left or right
May cause our steps to waver.

Distractions will rob energy
And cause us to lose track.
The time and purpose we may lose
Sometimes we can't get back.

Patterns in the way we live
May need a fresh, new change.
And it may be a challenge...
Our time to re-arrange.

When our thoughts are trained on Him
Then we will be at rest.
And in our daily walk with Him
We truly will be blessed.

"I will praise the Lord with my whole heart..."
Psalm 111:1 KJV

"Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established."

Discerning The Holy Spirit

I have been in meetings (wonderful meetings) where the Holy Spirit was speaking through people, where lives were being touched, where "words of knowledge" were coming forth, where fellowship in the Spirit was warm and wonderful... and all in attendance felt blessed. And I have treasured those times.

But then as I was driving home or, if after I got home I would sit and wait on the Lord quietly, He would begin to speak further. He would give me an "overview" of what He was doing in those meetings. The "overview" was revelation, and it was the "key" to understanding His purpose.

This is true not just in meetings, but in all the events of our lives. Taking time to discern the movement of the Spirit is what will guide us in all that we do. God has not left us helpless. He has given us the Holy Spirit. And as we listen to the voice of the Spirit and learn to discern His movement our vision will be opened up and our footsteps will be sure.

Importantly, if we are keen to discern the movement of the Spirit we will not spend time in any one place beyond the timing of the Spirit but will always be moving forward.

Our God is faithful to always guide and help us.

"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."
I Corinthians 2:12 KJV

Helping One Another

Communities and neighbors
Standing strong in times of need,
Helping one another,
Bring recovery with speed.

We're not meant to stand alone
When we are under stress.
Many hands can make light work
And quickly ease duress.

Encouraging and reaching out
Helps folks to start to cope.
When they're hurting and in need
Others can bring love and hope.

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them..."
Matthew 7:12 KJV

Cobwebs

Have you ever noticed how cobwebs seem to happen when you aren't looking or paying attention, and how they are sticky and "cling" to you when you touch them or walk into one? When I see them on the walls of my house I know the spiders have been there "working".

This is what can happen to us spiritually (in our minds and thoughts and spirits) if we don't keep surveillance. If "cobwebs" start to clutter up our relationship with the Lord they can cloud our vision and rob our joy. When they rest undisturbed over a period of time they will become as a think woven layer. This can also happen in relationships with family and friends, in job situations, in churches... anywhere where "spiders" are. Cobwebs block the flow of the Spirit.

It is important to spend time in prayer and allow the spotlight of the Holy Spirit to show us if we have any cobwebs which need to be cleaned out, and then we need to deal with them. Probably none of us would "invite" spiders into our homes, but when they leave a "trail" we can certainly sweep it out!

"For the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee..."
I Chronicles 28:9 KJV

Hope For This Day

In God is hope for this day and hour,
Sheltered in Him, Who is a strong tower.
In Him is anchor when footing is weak.
He is assurance when all seems quite bleak.

In Him is joy through darkness of night.
He is our strength, our very sure light.
He is our God, in Whom we are blessed.
Let His great peace in your heart bring rest.

"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust."

Lullaby

Angel wings, hovering,
Angel wings, covering,
Bringing peace and rest and sleep.
May their watchcare safely keep...

Singing gentle lullabies,
Of flowers and pretty butterflies.
Slumber on, O little child.
May your dreams be soft and mild.

Till you wake up to the dawn
And greet the new day with a yawn,
May your rest be heaven-sent
As angel wings provide your tent.

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."

Autumn's Warmth

God has His paintbrush ready and His palette in His hand,
To brighten up the countryside and make it all look grand!
He'll splash His colors far and wide in autumn's bright display.
It seems He gives us extra "warmth"... enough for winter's "gray".

When cold sets in and earth will sleep, we'll have these memories
Of beauty from the Master's hand, our hearts and thoughts to please.
Drink in His great artistry to cheer and keep you warm.
Let it be a burning fire through wind and rain and storm.

Until He wakes the earth again with blades of green in spring,
Let harmonies of autumn's flair within your spirit ring.
Harvest beauty in this time for store within your soul.
Forget not all God's benefits displayed in autumn's role.

"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation."
Psalm 68:19 KJV

A Special Legacy

When we finish our race and enter into eternity, what legacy will we leave behind?

For some there will be the legacy of astounding accomplishments or gifted showmanship or high learning skills. But for some it may be daily service to others from a heart of love, not necessarily receiving appreciation or notice for our labors.

What measures the worth of a legacy is whether it was done heartily as to the Lord. In the sight of God the simplest act we might have done may have the greatest worth. And sometimes the imprint of a life will be greater in retrospect.

We may not even be aware of how God is using us, but as we serve Him He will cause our lives to have the greatest possible impact on those around us. Nothing will be lost.

At no time should we give up and think there is nothing more we can do. The greatest thing we do might come at the last second before we slip away. If we pray that God will help us complete all that He has for us to do, then our legacy will not be lacking in any measure.

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."
Colossians 3:23 KJV

Glorify His Name

God has given each a voice
With which to worship and rejoice.
Let us glorify His name
And His majesty proclaim.

Let us lift up song and praise
And grateful adoration raise.
Let us praise and magnify
The great I AM Who reigns on high!

"Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness! Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord."

Quiet Balance

We sometimes get so caught up in the schedules of the day
That we forget to celebrate God's goodness in our "way".
When we have too much to do and hurry to and fro
We lose quiet balance for a long day's ebb and flow.

Measuring how much our load and spacing out it's weight
Will help us to avoid having too much on our plate.
Making place throughout the day to "listen" and to pause
Allows us to have insight and to give our God applause.

We may labor very hard to get a day's work done,
But somewhere in that busy day should pray and not just "run".
Precious moments spent with Him refresh and keep us free.
Renewing quiet balance is the answer and the key.

"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin."
Matthew 6:28 KJV

Be Contagious

Have you ever noticed how, when another person is enthusiastic or excited about something, their joy rubs off on you and it is good to be around them?

I walked into church one morning and greeted a young man, asking him how he was. He answered me with, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits!" (Psalm 103:2); and "Let everything that is within me bless His holy name!" (Psalm 103:1).

The Scripture was flowing out of Him as a river of living water, and it impacted me. He was greeting people with the Word! My spirit immediately came alive, and I began to rejoice. What a moment! He was on fire, and the Holy Spirit was fanning the flame.

Be contagious for Jesus! Spread His joy around. Let His joy spring up within you and splash out on others! Be as a spark which lights a fire and, as on a prairie, let your spark be fanned into a mighty sweeping fire for God.

Fan the flames of the Good News of Jesus!

Laughing With Us

God must need a sense of humor
As He watches us each day,
Tripping, fumbling, getting stuck
As we try to find our way.

Aren't you glad He "picks us up"
And "dusts us off" and smiles
And says, "Okay, let's try again"
When we are having trials?

Aren't you glad He's full of love
And "pats us on the back"?
Even though we may have failed,
His grace is never slack.

When our "feeble" efforts
Are just comic in some way,
Surely He laughs with us,
And He helps us day-to-day.

"Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God..."

On Eagle's Wing

The eagle rises in the wind
And seems to glide with ease.
The power in his practiced wings
Great majesty decrees.

There is none to equal
The great skill with which he soars,
Sweeping upward through the sky
As the heavens he explores.

God has promised us as much,
That we too would have power
To mount up as with eagles' wings,
E'en in our weakest hour.

"Waiting" on our precious Lord
We find new strength each day.
We become as eagles
And we mount up as we pray.

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31 KJV

Let Freedom Ring

Freedom comes at fearsome cost
And must be guarded, never lost.
Men have suffered, bled and died
That we in safety may abide.

Evil battles for control.
Ungodly men it would enroll
To serve it's own agenda thus.
Let us pray it not touch us.

March in prayer and rise up strong!
Firmly stand against this wrong!
Let our cries be loud and clear,
That our nation God might steer...

Around these dangers, toils and snares.
May God rule in these affairs,
Lest we drink the cup of sorrow
And not have freedom for the morrow.

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty."

The Poetry Of Life

The "poetry" of daily life is sometimes a conundrum.
Some "events" which happen... well, I wonder where they come from!
Things which ought to work together sometimes will not rhyme.
And when I need to change my "tack", I find I'm losing time.

Smoothly should my life's "lines" flow, in harmony of wit and charm,
My rhythm moving to and fro, free from problems and alarm!
But life takes tricky twists and turns and writes it's own "lines" of concern.
So I seek God for every verse. For every word He gives, I yearn.

This is how the rhythm of a missing line improves:
When God gives out the perfect verse, then the rhythm "moves",
Having lines which ebb and flow with symmetry of sound.
The Lord brings forth a cadence which is lovely and profound.

"As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God..."
Psalm 42:1-2 KJV

Draw Nigh Unto God

"Draw nigh unto God..." I heard this so clearly in my spirit.

In the time of trouble, draw nigh unto God. He desires to gather His people unto Himself and to encourage and comfort them in these times.

He is our shelter... our place of safety. He is our cloud by day and our fire by night. He is our confidence, in Whom we shall not be afraid.

He is working to protect His people. Do not resist the movement of His hand, but draw nigh into oneness with Him, and be at peace.

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
Psalm 91:1 KJV

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Inner Healing

Much "knitting together" happens in a life over the years, and the constant knitting creates layers and layers of covering over the events of that life. What is in the underneath layers becomes hidden and covered up... so much so that we forget or no longer can even reach or define what is there. Sometimes the "layers" of our life weigh us down and we lose the ability to function as God designed. Only He, by the searchlight of the Holy Spirit, can identify what is there.

And so we must put the knitting needles down and hand the thread of yarn into the hands of God, in trust. With tender, loving care He will begin to unravel the complexity (or tangle) of layers which has accumulated over time. Some of the layers may have been knitted by those around us or by circumstance, but oftentimes we have knitted the layers by our own thinking or actions.

Because we have a merciful and loving God we should not fear this unraveling process but look forward to the fullness of life He would give us. What a blessing it is to have God uncover the knots and tangles and missed stitches and, when He is through, to wear a new garment of beauty, knitted by His hand.

"Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou has put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness..."
Psalm 30:10-11 KJV

Words Which Heal

"I will listen..."
"May I help you..."
"I have time..."

I will listen when you're hurting,
Maybe lonely, scared or weary.
I will listen to your heart
And try to speak a word that's cheery.

May I help you in some way,
To lift your load or reach your goal?
May I help you find some rest
...Or refreshing for your soul?

I have time and will not rush.
I'll take a moment just for you.
For you are more important
Than whatever else I have to do.

"A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!"

Safety In Him

(An Answer To Prayer)

Every day I pray over the cars and vehicles I and my family members drive or ride in. And God has been faithful to answer my prayers and keep us safe. This week my son was in an accident where a 19-year-old who had been drinking hit the semi-truck my son was driving. His truck had a 48-foot trailer, and the other vehicle went under the trailer, hitting the axle, and then spun off to the side.

My son starts work around 3:30 a.m., and anytime I hear the phone ring when it's still dark and see his name on my caller i.d., it's usually a call for prayer. It was 6:15 a.m., and I heard him say, "Mom, I've been in an accident. I'm okay, but please pray for the guy that hit me. We are waiting for Life Flight."

The fire department came and got the young man out of what was a twisted pile of metal and rubble, and Life Flight took him to the hospital. He is in fair condition, and we are grateful that he is alive, although to look at pictures of his vehicle you would have to wonder how he lived through the crash.

We are grateful that God covered this situation so completely. He somehow helped my son to not run over the other vehicle when it was coming at him head-on (this was on a two-lane highway with not much room to pull off), and He helped my son to stay cool in the situation. He did not get hurt and was able to go back to work the next day.

May God keep His hand on this 19-year-old young man, heal him and use him mightily.

God never lets us down in our time of need. He is faithful! He is always there, and He is awesome! May His name be praised!

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."
Psalm 91:11 KJV

A Faithful Messenger

The following story is about something that happened approximately ten years ago, but I am sharing it because the message in it is urgent for these times.

I was at church early one Sunday morning and was approached by a pleasant-looking, gray-haired couple. As the man began to speak I realized they were from a foreign country. He said that they were from Czechoslavakia and that God had given him a message to take to the churches of America. The message was this: "Is this church praying for the children of America? Are YOU praying for the children of America?"

After he spoke, they were gone. Because they left so quickly I pondered at first whether I had just met angels. Whether or not this was true, at this point I knew that this man was a messenger of God to our church.

A week or so later he appeared on a Wednesday evening just before our service. Again he said to me, "Is this church prayinig for the children of America? Are YOU praying for the children of America?" And again, he was gone. And yet a third time he returned and connected with our pastor with his message and then left.

This man had been going from church to church to church, speaking this message which God had given him. I could only praise God for his obedience to leave his homeland in his senior years and bring this message to America. This is even now more urgent than when the Lord first sent him. We must be praying for our children.

Autumn's Flair

Autumn paints with brilliant flair
To dress the land in colors bold.
She will pull out "all the stops"
And splash about her red and gold.

She'll celebrate the passing year
In festive manner with her art
And show to us her myriad hues
Before the winter has it's start.

Autumn leaves a special warmth
To cheer us on in days to come
And then she quietly withdraws
As winter starts to play it's drum.

"O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"

A Forgiving Heart

The cost of unforgiveness is an aching, ailing heart,
A malady which penetrates and pricks one as a dart.
The torment grows in size o'er time and robs deep joy and peace,
Bringing illness and despair, causing love to cease.

Jesus Christ forgives us of our actions and offense,
So we should practice to forgive, to lay down our "defense',
Praying for each other as the Lord would have us do.
He will lift our "woundedness" and heal us through and through.

Oh, what happiness we have when we lay down our "woe".
As we love, and do not hate, His healing waters flow.
Jesus prayed, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do",
Even when He knew that He would die for me and you.

"Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
Luke 23:34 KJV

"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Leaning In Prayer

When making a decision it is wise in prayer to stand,
Or we could soon be living in a dry and "foreign land".
Should we make an error, all around us will feel strange.
But if we wait on God, a good path He will arrange.

God knows all our needs, and the answer which is best.
Trusting in His guiding hand will cause us to be blessed.
So patiently we wait on Him, with courage and with hope,
Leaning, growing, trusting, till a new door He will ope.

For anwers which are "no", or which may not be our choice,
We should not have question but in Him we should rejoice!
Always He will steer us clear of obstacles and error.
Our well-being rests in Him... He is our burden-bearer.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

A New Pace

(A Word Of Encouragement)

God's hand is moving in ways which astound
To free up His people who long have been bound.
He is our healer, our "mender", our Source.
He is now moving... to keep us on course.

We will find answers which we have long sought.
Hard hearts will soften and change as they ought.
We will see movement we did not expect...
Good change which only our God could perfect.

God has new timing to put things in place.
That which He does will have quickened pace.
God is preparing us for a new day,
And we'll see His moving as we watch and pray.

"Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

Anchored Faith

We won't have a worthy anchor
If for worldly things we hanker.
It's distraction is too much
Whene'er we get involved in such.

Having anchor in the Lord
And studying the two-edged sword
Will make us as a bulwark strong
Against the tide of evil's wrong.

Shakings, tremors, flood and wind
An anchored faith cannot rescind.
Those acquainted with God's power
Have safety in the darkest hour.

Should our days grow gray and dim
We will find true strength in Him.
He will answer when we call.
His strength is great when ours feels small.

"Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might."

Prayers

Prayer knows no distance,
But reaches 'cross the miles,
And comes as soothing, healing balm
To ease our daily trials.

Prayer changes circumstance
And really isn't bound.
When we rest within it's arms
God's healing is profound.

Prayer brings God's healing touch
And ushers in sweet heav'nly sphere.
Oh, what comfort, Oh what peace,
As God replies and hovers near.

God pours out His lovingcare
And fills us with His joy and peace.
When we speak a heartfelt prayer
Graciously He brings release.

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

The Holy Place

The Holy Place.....

That place of sanctuary where every whisper of my heart can be shared with my Lord, and where every whisper is heard.

That place where God's presence and love surround me, and where He awaits my coming.

That place where the communication and the sharings of our hearts together... His heart and mine... bring light and insight and encouragement.

A place set apart from the din and noise and distractions of the day... my hiding place.

A place of wonder.

A place which is so rich and wonderful that time is of no consequence... only the desire to stay and absorb it's beauty.

The Holy Place... a place of unspeakable joy.

Fine Apparel

God's people are not dressed in "rags".
He clothes us with His gladness.
We can put off our sackcloth
And put away our sadness!

We can wear salvation
And a garment of bright praise.
We have robes of righteousness
To wear throughout our days!

Glory be unto our God
For giving us rich ornament.
He has given us His best...
Our clothes are Heav'n's adornment.

"Thou has turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness."

A Call To Thanksgiving

This is a call to return to prayer, to times of thanksgiving and reverence for God. The people of our nation have been lackadaisical in their attitudes and are remiss in not acknowledging His goodness.

God Himself will not allow us the life of ease which we have known for so long because many have become lazy and arrogant with pride. And we have not been diligent to thank Him for His outpouring upon this land. We have presumed upon His goodness and let His blessings slip away from us.

Our God is awesome, and much to be worshipped. He is the giver of all good things. In Him are all benefits and wisdom found, freely given out of His great love and mercy. All glory be to His name!

"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised..."

Eventide

In quiet hush of eventide
God hovers oh, so near.
When the "dust" of day recedes
His gentle voice I hear.

"The day is done, it's battles won.
Peace, My Child, be still.
Let your spirit rest in Me
And find sweet sleep until...

I bring another fresh new morn,
Sparkling softly with the dew...
My gift to you... of Son-lit day
When all is fresh and new.

In quiet now of eventide,
Hush, My Child, be still.
Let My angels watch o'er thee
And blessings o'er you spill."

God's Greatest Miracle

God's greatest work is done in hearts
When His salvation He imparts.
Who else could bring a sinner home
When he determined just to roam?

Who could make such wondrous change,
A wasted life to re-arrange?
Who could bring a heart of stone
To kneel and pray, for sin atone?

He will reach into deep "sludge"
And save a sinner with a "nudge",
Pouring out His love and grace,
Offering His own embrace.

What an awesome God we serve.
His love is more than we deserve.
No one else could e'er compare
Nor give to us such lovingcare.

"Likewise I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."

Set Aside With Him

When we have to make a change
We may not know God's plan long-range.
"Separation" oft is hard
And leaves us feeling somewhat jarred.

And yet His plans are for our best,
Giv'n for growth or as a "test".
A change may be God's "wake-up" call,
A time to lean on Him for all.

And when He calls us to His side,
Alone in prayer to abide,
This precious time we should not rush
But let Him all resistance crush.

If we flee this holy mission
We may forfeit God's fruition.
What a sad loss that would be...
Not to gain His victory.

"Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed: I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eye-lids, until I find out a place for the Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob."

A Ready Heart

Lord, every day is fresh and new,
With chance to do some thing for You,
A brand new opportunity
To shine in our "community".

"Community" might mean "our street",
A stranger or a friend to greet,
Or maybe be the corner store
Or the one who lives next door.

"Community" might be at home
Where little children play and roam.
It might be in our own back yard,
Or places where we've not tried hard.

Every day we can make choice
Encouragement and cheer to voice.
We only need a ready heart
The love of Jesus to impart.

"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."
Proverbs 25:11 KJV

True Wealth

There are so many who just live to "get",
And, in their "getting", they worry and fret.
Labor is good to meet daily need,
But "getting" and hoarding have symptoms of greed.

Wealth can be empty, and houses don't speak.
Money can't buy the joy which we seek.
True wealth is found in sharing and giving.
This is the secret to beautiful living.

All that we give our God will return
With much bigger blessings than we could earn.
He multiplies the work of our hands.
In Him we have wealth to meet life's demands.

"But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work."
II Corinthians 9:6-8 KJV

A Beautiful Canvas

Lord, what would you paint on the canvas of my day?
If my life could speak today, what would you have it say?
Help me to be patient as I wait for Your brush stroke.
Let me wear Your colors as a treasured, velvet cloak.

Would You paint me brightly, as a banner of good news?
Or add to me serenity in soft and gentle hues?
Maybe You would try new shades and make of me a blend
Of a rainbow's varied tints... Your beauty to extend.

I await Your brush strokes in the early dawn of day,
Anticipating artistry in fresh and new array.
Each day is a portrait, filled with flair and great finesse,
A painted, heavenly design, Your goodness to express.

"On thee do I wait all the day."
Psalm 25:5 KJV

Be On Alert

Facade and deception are "slippery" as oil
And God's ordained plans will subtlely foil.
Facade is not truth and covers intent
To have it's own way, whatever it's "bent".
Deception is crafty and fools many folk
And blinds them to truth with it's charm and false cloak.

May scales fall from eyes and discernment increase,
Lest lies and deception our well-being fleece.
For God will ordain His very best plan
And by heart-felt prayer these evils will ban.
He hears our cries that truth will be spoken
And honors our prayers, lest we should be broken.

People who pray can break through this cloud
Which unthinking people have wrongly allowed.
Let all facts be known and righteousness sown.
Let us see through sham and our minds sharply hone
To rightly divide the "message" we hear.
God gives us answers, in Him truth is clear!

"His truth shall be thy shield and buckler."
Psalm 91:4 KJV

Squirrels Need Provision Too

We used to live in a home which was surrounded by large trees. As the trees increased in size the neighborhood squirrels could travel from the front to the back of our large lot without ever touching the ground. They just leaped from tree to tree.

Our neighbor had hickory nut trees (hickory nuts are a squirrel's favorite food), and we had a large oak tree with lots of acorns, so the squirrels were quite contented to live there.

One morning I heard my mom start shouting, and she was knocking hard on the window in her room. I rushed in there because I was afraid the glass might break, and I didn't want her to get hurt. Also, I wondered why she was upset. What I saw out the window was hilarious.

The day before Mom had mopped the floor, and afterwards she propped the mop up (string end up) against our persimmon tree to dry. A squirrel had discovered the string part. When I looked out the window I burst out laughing. This little critter had chewed off much string from the mop. Big fluffy wads of it stuck out of it's mouth on both sides. All I could see was two tiny eyes, barely peeking over the top of the fluff, peering back at us through the window.

At that point it didn't matter what had happened to the mop. This funny picture was worth the loss of part of the mop. The squirrel probably had the plushest nest in town!

Our Faithful God

When we have needs, God is aware.
When we bow down, He hears our prayer.
He is so faithful and will not forget
Our heart-cry until all provision is met.

He is our Source... sufficiently able
To bring us supply when we are not stable.
He brings us answer when we "draw a blank".
For all that we have, it's Him we should thank.

We need not worry, nor ever should fret.
Our God is greater than all of our "debt".
If we will trust in His generous hand
Our gracious God will help us to stand.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."

Gladness In Him

The joy of the Lord
Brings smiles and gladness
To offset life's trials
And shield us from sadness.

His joy is our strength
Through thick and through thin,
For He gives us courage
And peace deep within.

We can rise up
From pain and despair
And conquer our challenges
By faith and prayer.

He is our sunshine
For times which are "gray".
He is our source
Of joy for each day.

"...For the joy of the Lord is your strength."

Our Healing God

God's power to heal is sovereign and sure
When man has no answer or band-aid or cure.
We should not question what God is about.
What we should question is our own misdoubt.

God is our strength when we become frail,
So fear and mistrust are to no avail.
We must stand strong in faith to believe,
And ready His blessing and health to receive.

Resting and trusting in Him will bring peace.
As we rest in Him all tension will cease.
He is the fortress in which we may hide,
A shelter and covering in which to abide.

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31 KJV

Open Doors - Closed Doors

If you are sincerely working to make something happen or to achieve a goal, and you don't seem to prosper or find your niche...

Do you have the mind of the Lord, and do you know His timing? Are your labors that which He would have you do? Perhaps He would lead you in another direction.

When our plans and labors are in line with that which God sees are good for us, then He will go before us and make our way straight, redeeming our time and leading us toward higher goals. His goals may be some which, without Him, we could never reach. We may not understand His leading or timing, but to just labor endlessly without knowing His will can cause us to miss precious opportunities which He would give.

If you do not know the Lord's direction or calling for your life, pray for Him to show you. He is gracious, and He is able to help you. If you feel that you have gotten off course at some point, then pray for the Lord to show you where your point of error was. Then go back to that point of error, and ask the Lord to help you correct your direction.

God opens doors in our behalf, but just as importantly, He closes doors, and in both cases we should be grateful. Our prosperity is in His hands.

"Teach me thy ways, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, becuase of mine enemies."
Psalm 27:11 KJV

The Greatness Of God

How does one fathom the greatness of God?
There is no ruler or standard or rod
Which ever could measure His size or His might,
Nor grasp of His wisdom or capture His light.

Yet He bows down to care for our needs,
Seeing our labors and noting our deeds,
Tenderly caring for every detail
Of all that concerns us when we have travail.

How does one measure the size of His love,
Poured out upon us from Heaven above?
What song can we sing or offering upraise
Which ever will bring a high-enough praise?

"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable."
Psalm 145:3 KJV

Procrastination's Error

She said that she would call her friend
To say, "I really care",
But didn't get around to it.
Procrastination's error!

Soon that friend was with the Lord
And didn't know she cared.
Sadly, there were many thoughts
And joys they could have shared.

The tendency to "wait awhile"
Can often cause upsets.
And good intentions left undone
Are followed by regrets.

Help us, Lord, to never fail
In doing what we should.
There is much more we can do,
... If we only would.

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."
Colossians 3:23 KJV

He Heard My Prayer

God heard my prayer, and He met my need...

My need was for a new pair of shoes. This might not seem like much of a need, but I wear special shoes, and when I don't have them it causes lots of problems in my hip. The pair I was wearing broke down on the inside and was no longer good.

I didn't have money for a new pair, but in faith I called the shoe store and asked them to hold a pair in my size, telling them I would come soon to get them. This situation needed a quick answer.

The girl who answered the phone said to me, "Oh, I forgot to call you. You won a drawing."

This startled me. I said, "What drawing?"

She answered, "Don't you remember? The last time you were in you signed up for a drawing, and you won. You have a new pair of shoes waiting for you."

It took a moment for me to realize what I was hearing. My reply was, "You mean I get a free pair of shoes?"

The beauty of what had happened was really impacting me. Obviously, God was in the mix here. I still don't recall that there was a drawing, but somehow He provided these shoes for me.

God is not limited in His ability to provide for us. When we love Him and serve Him He goes before us, preparing our way, providing for all our needs, and making a safe path for us.

I am so grateful for His lovingkindness.

A Flower's Song

I have waited all year long
To see this summer sun.
When it's warm then I can bloom
And really have some fun!

I can brighten someone's day
And pour my fragrance 'round.
When it's nice and warm like this
My blossoms will abound.

I will scatter seeds about
And multiply my summer fun.
I will make the most of this...
I want my job to be well-done.

After this the winter comes
When I'll yawn and say "ho-hums".
But while I have this chance to bloom
I will spread my sweet perfume!

Restoring Lost Pieces

Sometimes we are in a situation or relationship which is impacted in an unexpected or negative way. We may not see it coming, and the force of the impact shatters or scatters order and causes confusion. Momentarily we are left with a sense of inability to make repairs or even to re-connect all the pieces of the situation. It will seem that everything has been fragmented.

When serious fragmentation happens, time and space and healing are needed. This doesn’t mean that restoration cannot happen, but it is wisdom to "withdraw", to spend some quiet time with the Lord and let him gather up all the broken or lost pieces. Sometimes we just need to rest to be able to see more clearly. As we are strengthened in Him and regain our focus, then we can approach our situation with a fresh vigor and a careful eye. He helps us "catch our breath" again, to regain our footing and to move forward confidently.

Do NOT allow discouragement or self-pity to come in. These are spoilers which will only delay matters. We don’t need to panic, for the Lord knows about all the lost and broken pieces of our lives and is able to put them all back together!. He is full of compassion and able to heal, to strengthen and comfort, to bring joy and peace. We have an awesome God, and He is always by our side to help us.

"I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me."

To Our Nation's Leaders

Don't take apart what is well put together,
For "structures" well-built life's storm clouds will weather.
Boundaries written just should not be changed,
Nor laws which are proven now be re-arranged!

History has shown us a wise path to follow.
Today's new ideas are sometimes just "hollow",
Lacking in truth and shaky in stance.
We need God's wisdom to not act "on chance"!

Don't exchange strength for that which is flawed.
Let our constitution be honored and awed.
We need not change from what we have known.
God's truth is the base from which we have grown!

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord..."

Prayer For Healing

Lord, let Your precious healing flow.
Wash and make us white as snow.
Take our aching and our pain.
Restore us and strong health ordain.

Keep us "fixed" as days go by.
Increase our faith as we draw nigh.
Lend to us Your mighty power
To overcome in trial's hour.

For we are able by Your might
To travel through the dark of night
And rise triumphant with the morn
As we on angels' wings are borne.

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust..."

Green Pastures

When my thoughts are whirling 'round
And anxieties abound,
Your voice whispers, "Be at rest.
Don't get flustered, don't be stressed."

Deep within I feel Your peace.
Earthly weights and matters cease.
I am freed from "wear and tear"
As I'm in Your presence there.

I find treasure when I'm still.
There it is I know Your will.
You refresh my weary soul,
And by Your healing make me whole.

"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul...."

A Healthy Heart

Sometimes hearts are filled with stones...
Little weights which cause deep groans,
Pebbles there of past offense
Or pain which took up residence.

Healthy hearts will freely "pump",
But "stony" hearts will start to slump.
Don't let stones and gravel form.
Let forgiveness be the norm.

Ask the Lord to help you know
If in your heart some pebbles show.
He can heal a stone-filled heart,
His love and joy and peace impart.

"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh."

Hidden

It is good to be hidden with God. For in that "hiding place" there is strength and development of character. Time spent there provides refreshing and learning.

When we leave that place, (to go to work or school or appointments), we are as missiles penetrating darkness. Having spent time there, we are not "average" citizens. We are instruments in God's hands.

When our time "out and about" is spent, always we should retreat back to the "hiding place" for restoration and for renewed balance.

The hiding place is the key. It makes the difference in who we are.

"Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word."

Light In The Darkness

(A Prophecy)

The "light" may seem to be waning in the face of darkness, but the "light" (today's church... the saints) is hidden all across the land. The darkness may think it is winning, but the light will never go out. It will surface gloriously again and again. It cannot be contained. It bursts forth in radiance and warmth, in encouragement and inspiration, in strength and in power.

Always it will stand. Always it will speak truth. Always it will be found by those who train their eyes upon Jesus.

"In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light
shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
John 1:4-5 KJV

Shifting Sand

Things of the world are structured in sand,
Sometimes quite bright and glitzy and grand.
But sand in the wind of the Spirit may blow,
And that which was "pretty" is tossed to and fro.

The "world" entices and offers it's prize
But has little substance... just flimsy disguise.
Pleasure is sweet in the moment of taste
But doesn't add wisdom... a pitiful waste!

Wisdom is steady and rests as a rock.
Unlike the world, it never will mock.
Wisdom gives anchor amidst shifting sand,
A firm undergirding on which we may stand.

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed."

God's Riches

Man struggles and labors and works to be rich
And thinks by so doing he'll find his own "niche".
But money and riches may all flee away,
And that which he clings to his soul will betray.

True riches are found as we honor the Lord.
It is He Who will prosper and bring us reward.
We, of ourselves, cannot build a "tower".
We simply don't have the might or the power.

As we seek His "riches" He'll meet every need.
He'll pour out His blessings to help us succeed.
The blessings He gives can't be robbed away.
These are rich treasures which will not decay.

"Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Matthew 6:20-21 KJV

Winning Over Wastefulness

Today the Lord is speaking to me about waste. There is so much waste... of time, of talents, of resources, of giftings, of opportunities for service, for friendship (including family members), for spiritual prosperity.

What are some of the great wasters? Lack of focus, lack of organization, distractions, procrastination, laziness, pride, anger, greed, busyness, selfishness, wrong goals.

If we could use all of the wealth our loving God provides for us to the maximum, most of us would be living very different lives. Good change would come, and people would be working together, bonded with purpose. Our dollars would stretch further, our lives would be healed, our children would be happier... the possibilities are exciting to think about, and very much worth pursuing. Today is a good day to start. One small step in this direction can lead to another and become a very worthwhile adventure. The possibilities are endless.

His Healing Power

Without Jesus Christ our bodies are frail.
The burdens we carry will cause us to ail.
He gives us "structure" whereby we stand tall.
His strength within us is as a strong wall.

Our burdens are light, our worries are less.
Having His peace will cancel out stress.
In Him is health for body and soul,
Refreshing and rest from life's daily toll.

He lifts us up when we cannot walk.
He gives us words when too tired to talk.
His strength in us becomes as a tower.
Though we be weak, we have strength for each hour.

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him."

The Wind Of The Spirit

When the wind of the Spirit blows hard in a life
To remove cumulation of rubble and strife,
Uncovering gold and cleansing within,
Preparing that life a new work to begin...

There is a point of not looking back
But moving ahead on a positive "tack",
Of walking in faith toward a God-given goal,
Trusting in Him to be in control.

By His able hand we reach a high place
As we are submitted and walking in grace.
How high the goal!? How high the sky?
That our God is able we cannot deny.

Only in Him can we fulfill our call,
Climbing our mountains, however tall,
Learning each day just how we should live,
Walking sure-footed each path He would give.

"It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places."

God's Holy Word

God's Word is holy, and He does not change.
What He has spoken man can't rearrange.
If man just reads to "suit his own taste",
From that point with error his actions are laced.

All of the Word is needful to learn
If evil and wickedness we would discern.
How could we choose which portions are best?
Obedience demands that we make full quest.

Excursions of learning in God's Holy Word
Will pave a safe road and man's heart will gird.
Always the Word will lead us in truth...
Parents and children, old folks and youth.

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercinig even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Giving Is A Blessing

Giving just a meager cent
To one in need is wealth well-spent.
Sharing some of what you have
With one who's poor is healing salve.

It matters not if you have much.
Give a cent or mite or such.
Share a meal or drink or bite
To aid or solve another's plight.

Giving seems to multiply
And many needs will nullify.
When we give, God gives e'en more...
Riches from His heav'nly store.

"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."

God's People

God has people in this land
Who for righteousness will stand...
Those who see through Satan's shield
And to his lies will never yield.

God's own people are not blind.
Their beliefs are well-defined.
They have strength beyond the norm
And to a "trend" will not conform.

These are those who keep us stable
And won't listen to false fable.
They will keep our nation strong,
For they discern the truth from wrong.

"The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever, the thought of his heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance."

God In Our Midst

The gatherings of saints in worship and prayer
Become as an off'ring of sweet incense rare.
To myriad saints who for His voice yearn,
God will bend down and His ear will turn.

God is much blessed His children to hear.
When they bring worship He will draw near.
He's in the midst of saints' heart-felt prayer.
Know in these times that He will be there.

Much can be done in times such as these.
Oneness of spirit the Father will please.
He answers prayer in ways which amaze.
He is our help and so worthy of praise.

"Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name there am I in the midst of them."

In His Time

The eagle, in God's rightful time,
Will catch the wind and soar and climb.
It cannot soar when not quite ready...
Only when it's wings are steady.

Skill and "savvy" must be learned.
By practice is his high flight earned.
High flight when his wings are weak
Could make him fall and havoc wreak.

Eagles triumph in the sky
And to the doors of Heav'n draw nigh.
In God's timing, seasoned well,
On wind of Spirit they will dwell.

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. He hath made every thing beautiful in his time."

Changing Values

Strong foundations, built in truth, endure with strength and power
And will sustain us over time from foes which would devour.
But many falter, many stray, because they've not learned truth.
Godly tenets are not taught and are denied our youth.

"Haziness" of values has become a daily norm.
How sad that truths are watered down until they are "lukewarm"!
Lack of clear direction will cause the land to ail.
Without the truth of God to guide, society will fail.

Oh, that we would soon return to holiness and prayer
And study to discern God's truths... to always be aware
That wisdom is a precious gift... a necessary tool...
To build a strong foundation and weakness overrule.

"And be ye not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God."

Heavenly Balm

In the stillness, in the quiet,
Silently You come...
Breaking through that weariness
Of life's continual "drum".

What refreshing! What sweet peace!
What endearing calm!
Sharing in these moments
With You is heav'nly balm.

Here I listen to Your heart,
The whisper of Your voice,
And linger in Your presence,
To weep and to rejoice.

Quietly I wait on You
In fellowship divine...
Little else is of import
Except with You to dine.

"In thy presence is fulness of joy..."

Bless The Lord, O My Soul

We cannot even measure God's benefits to us.
Oh what blessing, oh what joy, His goodness to discuss.
More than we imagine He hovers near our side
And joys in being with us to cover and to guide.

All that we can fathom is only a small start
Of that which He would give us and wishes to impart.
We are subjects of His love and awesome, healing touch.
Glory be unto our God that He would care so much!

Let us offer vibrant praise and worship with our voice.
Magnify His holy name, give honor and rejoice!
God is high above the heav'ns, yet hears our every prayer.
With our lives and in our hearts His goodness we declare!

"Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name."

In Times Of Need

In times of need God is our source.
He helps us stand and stays our course.
Sometimes all we see is loss.
But He will help us bridge across
Until we rest on solid ground.
In Him our footing will be sound.

God is gracious - how He cares!
He hears our cries and all our prayers.
He provides and watches o'er
The "down and out", the weak and poor.
In times of flood, in times of drought,
His compassion reaches out.

When you think you just can't stand,
He will gently take your hand.
He will lift you to your feet
And help you overcome defeat.
He is waiting. Just look up.
He alone can "fill your cup".

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

Growing Pains

Most of us do not like "growing pains" (this might suggest work), but the truth of the matter is, we don't grow in the easy times. Growth happens when we stretch to meet demands or reach goals. If you would rather just sit back and take it easy... well, how boring is that! And sooner or later life will hurtle something big your way, and how will you handle it? We don't grow up in one fell swoop but by dealing with life's challenges as they present themselves and by reaching higher in our understanding and perceptions over time.

So if you are on life's path and the challenge in front of you is huge, the lesson may be to learn to trust God more. If you're caught in a place in which you cannot see the end, learn patience (ouch!). If someone is hard too deal with, show love to them. They may need it more than you know. If you have been deeply wounded, forgive. (Jesus does this for us every day). "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do..." (Luke 23:34).

In ourselves we do not have the wisdom or strength to master our goals or overcome these challenges, but Jesus will raise us up and make us able. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13). Perhaps we will taste hard work or disappointment, failure or sorrow, ill health or loss, but we are not alone. In all these things the Lord is by our side to raise us up, spur us on, add wisdom and bring us to victory.

If a challenge stands in front of you, it just may be that God has allowed it because there is something precious He wants you to learn. Know that He will be faithful to guide and help you through it Or, if life has just dished out a circumstance you don't like, ask God what you can learn from it. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.". (II Timothy2:15).

"For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
Hebrews 5:14-15 KJV

God's Rhythm

A Prayer

Lord, help me to go slow enough that, when I smell roses, I can stop and linger. But quicken me, Lord, to move on when Your fragrance isn't there.

A rushed pace can cause me to totally miss Your blessings; but, likewise, so can a pace which is too slow.

Help me to be so attuned to Your pace that I will always move in the timing of the Holy Spirit, always walking in rhythm with what You are doing.

And help me to realize that roses may be hiding in some very plain-looking, everyday places...

Our Great Creator

Our awesome God brings the rain as He wills
To refresh the land and wash away "ills".
All nature responds and is sweetly declaring
"How rich is His love, how great is His caring!"

He is the Maker of rain and of snow.
He makes the tides and the rivers to flow.
The mountains and hills, the valleys and plains,
Shall lift up their praise and echo sweet strains...

Acknowledging God and giving Him glory.
Creation will tell this jubilant story!
When nature in reverence it's anthem shall raise,
All heaven and earth will be filled with His praise.

"Praise the Lord from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps! You lightning, hail, fog, and frost, you stormy wind fulfilling His orders! Mountains and all hills, fruitful trees and all cedars! Let them praise and exalt the name of the Lord, for His name alone is exalted and supreme! His glory and majesty are above earth and heaven!"

Guarding Our Children

Fragmented families are cause for concern.
The children cry out. Their little hearts yearn
To just be at home with Mom and with Dad.
Because they can't do this, so many are sad.

Home is a shelter and family it's base,
Where children are strengthened life's trials to face.
When family is broken the children have fear,
And deep insecurity robs them of cheer.

Parents, be strong, alert and aware!
Cover your family with wisdom and prayer.
Close all the doors to evil's design,
Lest enemy forces your home undermine.

"... As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

Good Fruit

At the end of the day, are our labors for nought?
In that which we do, have we giv'n enough thought?
It's fruitless to labor at tasks with poor cause.
If there is no substance, then we should give pause...

To pray and to seek a work with good fruit.
To follow God's calling should be our pursuit.
Then all our work will have new perspective.
The key is to find and know God's objective.

Our time is well-spent when God shows the way.
He guides us and prospers our work day-to-day.
To bear worthy fruit should be our first call.
Then He will bless us... in great and in small.

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
Colossians 3:17 KJV

A Happy Note

Always people seem to need
A happy note to cheer their days.
A smile, a wave, a bright "hello"
Can bring a change which will amaze.

Often it will not take much
And really is a joy to do.
And when you bring good will to others
It will then return to you!

Choose to brighten someone's day.
Shower others with good will.
When you walk this happy trail
Your joy will be greater still!

"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul and health to the bones."

Smog Alert

Beware, My children, lest you become jaded,
Lest your minds and thoughts are plundered and raided
By worldly concepts which have little worth.
They creep in so subtly and slyly seek berth.

You may not spot them with your own first glance.
Be very guarded, so you don't take chance.
The Word is the filter and screening you need
So you will have wisdom to spot "worldly" seed.

Jadedness wearies and misleads bright hope.
It cripples clear vision and wrong doors will ope.
The flow of the Spirit this bad pest will clog.
It's spiritual darkness... an unwelcome smog!

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God."

Treasure

The fear of the Lord is a good place to start
If one would find wisdom to store in his heart.
Reverence for God is the key to the door
Of wisdom and knowledge and "riches" and more.

Wisdom is higher than silver and gold,
Brimming with wealth and treasures untold.
Man may have fortunes and "hoardings" on earth,
But these can't compare with wisdom's great worth.

Gathering wisdom will open one's eyes,
For insights God gives are truly a prize.
That which man stores is only as waste.
By fear of the Lord we with wisdom are graced.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."
Proverbs 9:10 KJV

"How much better is it to get wisdom than gold: and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!"

The Cross

The cross is a blessed place of relief
Where one can lay down all sorrow and grief
And find strength and courage to face a new day,
Where burdens are lifted and sin's washed away.

At the foot of the cross is peace for each day...
A good place to come to worship and pray.
The cross is a symbol of God's awesome love,
Outpoured for His people from Heaven above.

This is where Jesus, our blessed Savior died
That we might be saved and in Him abide.
All things are changed in the light of the cross.
The shed blood of Jesus has covered all loss.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:16 KJV

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's."

SonShine

If your day seems bleak and bare,
Of God's Sonshine be aware.
There is always something good
To thank our God for, if we would.

Think about His grace and love,
Showered on you from above.
Think about His faithful care.
Know that He is always there.

In review, things aren't so bad.
For all God's gifts we can be glad!
Whene'er a challenge comes your way
Let His Sonshine light your day.

"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

His Precious Covering

In years past I played the piano for the services of a large church. In this church we had lots of worship, and the people worshipped with all their hearts. Always I strived to do my very best at the piano... as an offering to our precious Lord and also to bless the people. But one morning, I hit wrong notes several times. I was frustrated. It was not my norm for this to happen very often. But to have it happen more than once in any given service bothered me.

To my amazement, after that one service, several people came up to me and thanked me for blessing them with my playing. Occasionally a person would thank me, but this morning several came. I was dumbfounded. It was like the Lord had covered my errors and not even allowed the people to hear them. And then, out of His lovingkindness, He moved these people to come forth and thank me. His graciousness to me was so heartwarming. I felt like Jesus Himself was thanking me. What a blessing! What an awesome God we have!

"Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name."

Tender Care

As we live and work and play
Sometimes things will go astray.
Relationships get jarred and frayed
And sometimes need some tender "aid".

Litlte tensions are a sign
Which, gone unchecked, can cause "decline".
Diplomacy and loving care
Will usually bring some good repair.

Relationship is as a gift
And sometimes needs a little "lift",
To be given tender care
And be gently wrapped in prayer.

"Love never fails..."

Coffee Break

Housework sometimes is a bore.
Dust and clutter are a chore!
How come houses don't stay clean?
I need "down time" in between!

Piles of clothes don't wash themselves.
Books don't jump back onto shelves.
What is sticky on my floor?
Oh! Someone's knocking at my door.

Who said this is easy work?
Around each corner more tasks lurk.
When I'm done I have to bake.
To start, I need a coffee break!

Rooted In Him

It's good to grow roots in the soil of the Word.
For there are our health and welfare assured.
These are the roots which cause us to stand
Against storm and flood when life makes demand.

God gives us nourishment from which to draw.
No matter the "tide", we rise up in awe.
His roots go deep and cannot be jarred.
His wisdom and strength become a sure guard.

Those who aren't "planted" or may be uprooted
Can grow roots in Him and then be sure-footed.
Endurance and power in His Word are stored.
Tap roots of strength are found in the Lord.

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving."

Prayer Retreat

God has answers for this day
If we stand in faith and pray.
He is able to bring change
And circumstance to rearrange.

We should not accept defeat
But to our place of prayer retreat.
Through our God are battles won.
By His hand great feats are done.

If you're faced with evil's bag
And sin abounds and waves it's flag,
Know that God can change this trend
And to sin's folly bring an end!

He Knows My Heart

Some days my greatest efforts do not amount to much,
And though I've really labored hard don't have "that special touch".
And then some days I move along with energy and ease,
Pat myself upon the back and think, "This was a breeze!"

The Lord will look upon those days I worked and tried so hard.
Those might be the very days when in His sight I "starred".
The work I do cannot be measured in the sight of man.
My meekest efforts just might be my best in God's great plan.

What is in my heart each day is that which God will measure.
Even though I be not skilled, my worship is His treasure.
He can take my weakest skills and make them shine as gold.
All that I wiill do for Him has benefit untold.

"...For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."

The Confort Of God

In times of sadness, loss or sorrow,
God helps us to face tomorrow.
When our eyes with tears are blurred
He is there to undergird.

For He is able to sustain,
To take away our fear and pain.
He brings comfort, rest and peace
And from sorrow brings release.

He is strong when we are weak.
His love and friendship gently speak.
He will hide us 'neath His wing
Till we again can laugh and sing.

"Blessed are they who mourn, for they shalll be comforted."

The Impact We Make

Lord, You determine the path we will take
And the everyday impact that our lives will make.
When we're obedient and walk in Your will,
Our "walk" will not be just "run-of-the-mill".

If we are sensitive we leave a trail
Of blessing and love on a heavenly "scale".
If we're not sensitive we leave a path
Of "crushing" and sadness, anger and wrath.

We cannot know the impact we'll have,
So it's good to "walk softly" and be healing salve.
The quietest things we do every day
In the Lord's mighty hands will not go astray.

"He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"

God Bless America

May all of our leaders before our God bow.
Reverence and holiness may they avow.
For God's ways are high... above all we know...
And will keep us from wavering to and fro.

We were established on firmest foundation
And need to respect it's Godly creation.
Surely God's favor has brought us this far.
He is our help... our bright, Shining Star!

May all who lead be found on their knees,
Seeking God's face for His expertise.
Therein lies promise for bright days ahead,
That through prayer and wisdom we may safely tread.

A Mighty Tower

Jesus' name is our strong tower,
A place of refuge in this hour,
Filled with strength and filled with might,
A bulwark... safe against the "night".

We are sheltered from the storm,
To fear and doubt will not conform.
We will "hide" in Jesus' name
And to the world His power proclaim!

Jesus' name brings hope and peace
And from our worries brings release.
Jesus' name will be our tower,
A place of "resting" in this hour!

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe."

Time Well Used

The precious hours of each day
Continually will tick away.
There's opportunity in each
A deed to do or goal to reach.

We cannot keep or get them back,
But certainly can try to pack
Some good things into every hour,
Maybe even plant a flower.

When that flower starts to bloom
And issues forth it's sweet perfume,
Share it... just to bring a smile
To one who needs to feel worthwhile.

If we use our time this way
And give to brighten someone's day,
God will honor what we do
And multiply our time anew.

"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

An Unwelcome Guest

We have a great destroyer in our midst. Sometimes it simmers unnoticed, but often it isn't controlled and upsets everything it gets near by it's actions. It's manifestations are most unpleasant. What is it? Anger.

Look out for this destoyer. Sometimes it is subtle and lies hidden within. If it is allowed to rest there, undealt with, over time it will sap energy, affect health, cause prayers to be unanswered and hinder relationship with God and with others. God does not want us to live this way. "Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath." (Ephesians 4:26 NKJ).
The enemy will stir this flame to divide and conquer. He will plant seeds of mistrust and doubt. He will use intimidation and sarcasm and haughtiness in others to spark flames of offense, bitterness, grudges and unforgiveness. But God gives us solutions. We can choose to repond in love and to not react to the enemy's barbs. This way the enemy has no door of entrance for the purpose of destruction. This is a good door to keep closed.

"Love does not behave rudely, does not seek it's own, is not provoked, thinks no evil..."

Words Which Linger

Let your speech be sweetly graced
And with God's love and peace be laced.
Words can be a healing balm
And foster lovingcare and calm.

E'en as sunshine shares it's light,
Your words may be as neon bright.
Laughter in your voice can bring
Some hope to which a soul may cling.

A voice as soothing as a shower
Is almost like a fragrant flower.
It's memory lingers on awhile
And, by it's beauty, brings a smile.

Fields Of Flowers

Lord, I want to sow some seeds
Of love and laughter, joy and grace,
That these seeds might multiply
And sorrow, fear and gloom displace.

Let my words go forth as seeds
And cause a field of "flowers" to grow,
With foliage, size and beauty rare
And fragrance wafting to and fro.

Let me seed a rich bouquet
To broadcast Your Good News about,
Bringing hope to many folk
Through times of trial or of doubt.

In the wind of Your sweet Spirit
May these seeds blow far and wide.
May they rest in fertile soil
And in hearts and lives abide.

"Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man."

Children In Need

Today's children are tomorrow's leaders. How will they lead? On what will they base their thinking and ideas?

Who (besides us, the parents - or in place of us) is mentoring our children? And what are they learning? Their "exposures" are many and varied: teachers, friends, neighbors, TV, movies, etc. Do we know what our children are thinking? How will they know the wisdom of God if we do not teach them? What then will be their foundation from which they determine right from wrong?

Children need the blessing of a Godly heritage, and they especially need our prayers. Our work is cut out for us. Our children need our help.

"And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 KJV

Almighty God

We do not know Your power, Your strength,
The size of Your love...the breadth or the length...
Until we are tested and reach out in prayer.
Then we will realize how much You care.

There is no valley too wide or too deep,
Nor is there mountain too high or too steep.
There is no challenge which You cannot meet,
Or battles and wars You cannot defeat.

When we're in need of the power of Your hand,
We then will trust that You'll help us stand.
Almighty God of power and might,
You are our strength, You are our light!

"Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save: neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear."

Mountaintops

If we want to climb a mountain
We must learn to be sure-footed.
We cannot reach the top until
We're wise and deeply-rooted.

Footsteps taken hastily,
Without consideration,
Can lead us into problems
And be of short duration.

God keeps us in the valley
Until His perfect time,
And sets us in high places
Only when we've learned to climb.

He shapes us for the narrow ledge
By His awesome love and grace.
When we're on "the cutting edge".
We will reach the highest place.

"It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places."

A Heavenly Net

Recently, as I was sitting in a doctor's waiting room, a woman I didn't know walked up to me and said, "You have great peace." I did feel peace, and the Lord allowed her to see that. We began to talk and had a wonderful conversation about the Lord. I knew God had orchestrated this meeting. While we were talking I glanced across the waiting room and another woman caught my attention. (I didn't know this one either). The glory of God was written all over her face. She was like a fountain of light. She sat with her eyes closed, and I felt that she was praying. After a few minutes she walked over to me and the first woman and handed each of us a piece of paper. She had torn the corner off of her bank deposit slips and gave one to each of us. Now we had her address and phone number and also a blessing which was printed there. She whispered to us, indicating she too was a Christian. Each of the three of us lives in an outlying region of a large metropolitan center. It is interesting to me that we were from three far-away corners outside the city. Surely God was putting something together, even though we live quite a distance from one another.

Recently I heard from a Christian friend whom I had lost track of approximately thirty-five years ago. This lady lives in yet another outlying corner of the larger metroplex area.

As I have pondered all this I was reminded of a vision I had sixteen years ago. It was this:

"I was looking down on the city. It was dark. I became aware that there were many homes that had light inside, and God showed me which ones they were. I saw a huge net (like a fishnet) draped across the roofs of the houses. The knots in the net were attached to the houses which had light, connecting those houses one to the other... the networking of the saints... today's real church. This all lay under the cover of darkness. There was no light in the vision, but God allowed me to see where the Light was."

Be encouraged. I believe the saints will see and know where other saints are. God will allow us to see and know one another, though we may never have met before, even as like what happened to me in the doctor's waiting room. We will not stand alone, though the hour be dark. God will always be with us and help us.

Sanctuary

Purify my heart, O Lord,
Every fiber, every niche.
Help me reach transparency,
Without a shadow or a glitch.

Stretch and change my heart to know
A greater depth of wisdom's gold.
Let me hasten and be quick
Your love and teachings to enfold.

In every recess of my heart,
In it's deepest sanctuary,
May I be a worthy vessel
Of Your love extraordinary.

Happy Independence Day

A GREAT NATION

Could we turn back the pages of why we are great,
Could sit with our founders and time re-create,
We would hear prayer and reverence for God,
A standard of holiness without "facade".

We would meet men of wisdom and might
Who had long-range vision and desire to do right.
With heartfelt conviction they founded our nation.
To them we all owe a standing ovation!

They honored God in action and word.
By Scripture and holiness these men were stirred.
Our founders had a prayerful concern.
They set fine example. From them we should learn.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord..."

"Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. Justice and judgement are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face."

If I Could See Jesus

If I could see Jesus, what would I see...
Compassion and caring for one such as me,
Acceptance and love beyond all compare
And willingness always my burdens to bear.

His light and His glory could not be described,
Neither His warmth, in words, though one tried.
He is the Ruler o'er heaven and earth
And yet has deep interest to help us have worth.

Oh, how He cares for every soul,
To save and to heal and make each one whole.
His love is much more than we comprehend.
Though we can't see Him, He is our best friend.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

God's Chessboard

July 2, 2009

God has a chessboard! And He has a "game plan" which He wishes to accomplish. When we become yielded to Him He will begin to prepare us for "service". And as we are molded and shaped in Him, He will set us in place on His "chessboard".

He is preparing many for service, and it is important to stand in position wherever He places us, for a game cannot be won if some of the pieces are missing. When He begins to "move" He will need each person for a specific part of His plan.

How exciting it is to be used of Him! However, of this we cannot boast, for this is a "quiet work". The "world" will not see the chessboard, but by the Spirit it will become very clear to those who love Him.

Men Of Boldness

Thank You, Lord, for godly men
Who stand in place and are not moved,
Who work for righteousness and truth
Even when they're disapproved.

Evil loiters in the wings,
Watching, waiting to take o'er,
But men of boldness on alert
Drive these evils from our door.

These are those who toil and pray
That we might still hear freedom's ring.,
Mighty men who don't give up
But to God's righteousness will cling.

"Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies."
