A New Year Coming

Some have had a very good year
With opportunity and cheer,
And others seemed to struggle through,
Looking toward a year that's new.

For those who feel they may have failed,
Whose "mountains" just could not be scaled,
Let the old year be at rest.
This new year just may be your best!

Ask the Lord new doors to ope.
Be encouraged! Have new hope.
He can turn the old year's test
To something positive and blessed!

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

The Song Of The Heart

Jesus gives a song in the heart...
The loveliest music it ever will know.
He is the melody, His are the lyrics
Of beautiful strains which echo and flow.

He is the Master of songs of the heart.
If we will listen, His songs we will hear.
He sings the tunes, He IS the song
Which wells up inside and plays in the ear.

His precious strains will change us within,
Linger in memory and cause us to sing.
We then will worship His marvelous name,
Rejoicing each day in the song He will bring.

"The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him."
Exodus 15:2 KJV

A Gift Of Joy

I had a friend whose joy was like sunshine.
Moments with her would often be fun-time.
Humor and laughter just seemed to surround her,
Even when problems would nag or occur.

She had her weights and burdens to bear,
But she read the Word and spent time in prayer.
Her faith in God would lift and renew.
No matter the problem, her joy would shine through.

Even when ill she still prayed for others,
Family and friends, sisters and brothers.
Joy was her gift, which she shared with all.
In friendship and love she stood very tall.

The Mountaintop

When I am in the valley and feel so very low,
And I don't have the answers which I really need to know,
I come into His presence and fall upon my face.
When I pray He takes me to the mountaintop of grace.

The valley is behind me, for His grace has raised me up.
When I am down He's faithful to always fill my cup.
His grace is always more than my very deepest need.
Abiding in His presence to the mountaintop will lead.

His grace is as a shelter in which I may reside...
That blessed mountaintop, where I may safely hide.
Peace and joy and stillness are the measures of His grace...
Available to all who will pray and seek His face.

"And he said unto me, 'My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness...' "
II Corinthians 12:0 KJV

A Healing Balm

Pleasant words are wonderful,
And laughter a sweet salve,
To bless and satisfy the soul...
Treasured gifts to have.

Merriment and joy will buoy us up
And "light" our day.
What better way to greet the morn
And wash sad thoughts away.

Life and health and happiness
Are cheered by lovely speech,
For gentle words and tenderness
Deep in the heart will reach.

As laughter brings it's healing flow
And each new day unfolds,
We will find ourselves enriched
By all that gladness holds.

"The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat."
Proverbs 15:30 KJV

"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones."
Proverbs 16:24 KJV

"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine..."

Sounds Of Christmas

Carolers singing, a joyful sound bringing,
Trumpets and choirs and pretty bells ringing...
These are the sounds of bright Christmas cheer,
Announcing good news for all men to hear!

"Peace be on earth and good will toward men."
Let this be broadcast again and again!
Jesus has come... He is the Light,
Hope for mankind... the world to ignite.

Let celebration well up in your heart
And cause daily worries to flee and depart.
Jesus is come, our joy to renew.
Let His song ring forth... in me and in you!

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

Love Came Down On Christmas Eve

Jesus came... for me and you.
Quietly He made debut.
Time would prove He was God's Son,
The King of Kings, Most Holy One.

God poured out His love that night
In a tiny babe... so slight.
No one knew how great His plan
To cover sin and redeem man.

When He sent His precious Son
He had thoughts of us... each one.
He gave us the best He had.
Rejoice and be exceeding glad!

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The prince of Peace."

A Gift Of Priceless Worth

Sounds of worship waft and swell
As God's sweet promise comes to dwell.
Once again we celebrate
And with anticipation wait.

This little babe of lowly birth
Was God's own gift of priceless worth.
Gather round the manger low.
Love and adoration show.

This time of joy will warm the heart
And Heaven's blessings will impart.
As once again we are renewed
We bow in heart-felt gratitude.

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Let The Children Sing

At Christmas let the children sing.
Let their little voices ring!
Let their hearts well up with joy,
Every girl and every boy.

As they sing of Jesus' birth
And are filled with glee and mirth,
Listen to their gentle sound.
Love and sweetness there abound.

Children have a special way
In how they sing and what they say.
They will bring a simple view
Which oft refreshes me and you.

When the little children sing,
Special blessings they will bring.
Listen to their voices sweet
As the Savior's birth they greet.

"But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 19:14 KJV

Jesus Is Born

A tiny babe's cry pierced out through the night,
Forever to change the darkness to light.
It was God's loving plan for all of mankind.
This event which took place by God was hand-signed.

The life of this babe would be flawless and pure
And would bring answer men's sorrows to cure.
He would bring life and wash away sin,
That men everywhere might eternal life win.

That tiny cry pierces darkness today.
Jesus was come... your sin-debt to pay.
For those who receive Him and live in His light
He'll cut through your darkness and make your lilfe bright.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved."

A Childhood Christmas

The light in the eyes of a sweet little child,
Worshipping Jesus, the sweet baby mild,
Is precious and tender and wondrous to see.
His love is so pure and his spirit so free.

Lord, let this "imprint" on him ne'er be lost.
May Your love and grace in his heart be embossed.
May the wonder and awe which he has in his heart
Always remain there... Your joy to impart.

For childhood will fade and a young man emerge.
May angels keep watch and around him converge
To guard and protect this wonder and awe.
Let him ne'er forget the "manger" he saw.

"For He will give His angels (especial) charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways (of obedience and service)."
Psalm 91:11 Amplified Bible

Angels' Song

Oh, that I might sometime feel
The gentle brush of angel wings
And hear them sing or play upon
Their heavenly instruments of strings...

With harp and lute and mandolin,
Their voices wafting to and fro,
With heaven's harmonies and song,
Drifting down on those below...

Myriad voices praising God
Resounding throughout heaven's sphere,
Echoing their glorious chorus
And blessing many far and near.

In the stillness of the night
I long to hear the angels sing,
Just to know a touch of heaven
And hear them praise our glorious King.

God's Christmas Gift For You

In the bustle of this season
Some folks may not feel festive,
For deep within there is some pain
Which of sorrow is suggestive.

There is a very blessed answer
For those who struggle in this way.
Jesus is God's Christmas gift,
Who came to take your pain away.

His love will bring you through this season
And richly warm your heart anew...
His joy and lovingkindness
Are His Christmas gifts to you.

So find your peace in God's great gift...
He'll cause your joy to overflow.
Let Jesus fill you with His love,
Which far surpasses all we know.

".....In thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."

Re-Capturing Christmas

A subtle loss at Christmas
In the world as we now know it
Has been meaningful tradition...
So many just forego it.

The season is so very full
Of things we "need" to do
That the real point of Christmas
Is being lost from view.

We can take a different path,
Avoiding all this tension,
And re-create a Christmas time
With beauty and dimension.

The real gift of Christmas is
Taking time to help another
Or making something really nice
For family, friend or brother.

The love and wonder of this season
Are seen in people's faces
When we reach out in Jesus' name
With love and warm embraces.

Reaching out to show the world
The Father's awesome love.....
There is no finer gift than this,
By which we honor Him thereof.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the govenment shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6 KJV

Roots

Can our roots be found in the tenets of God?
Are our feet with sandals of holiness shod?
Are His roots in us well-founded and strong...
To help us discern what is right or is wrong?

Roots are important and shape who we are
And set good example to men near and far.
Good roots, well-nourished, are stable and "fixed".
In hard times they will not be altered or "mixed".

But when folks are rooted in things not of God,
Things which are worldly, or maybe just odd,
And then hardship looms, their footing is weak.
Without roots in God the future is bleak.

Good roots are healthy and cheerful and bright.
In times of great darkness they are as light.
They will not falter or wobble or sway
But give us foundation for every new day.

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving."
Colossians 2:6-7 KJV

Being A Mom

Being a mom is wonderful and certainly is never dull. Today I am recalling one very eventful day with my children...

When my son was four years old and my daughter was three, both of them being very quick-witted, I couldn't guess any day in the week what the day might bring.

One Sunday morning I was rushing to get them ready for church, and I thought everything was in place. We were ready to go out the door when I realized I hadn't put my lipstick on. As I went to do this I heard a major eruption... instant chaos... in the living room. I ran in there to check it out, and I couldn't believe my eyes. Both children were screaming and had blood all over their clothes. It seemed my son had tried to cut my daughter's hair, but in doing so he cut her ear!

She wasn't cut badly (nor did she lose much hair), but we had to deal with the bleeding and upset feelings. Both children were frightened and needed comforting. Then we had to start all over to get them dressed. Their pretty clothes were a mess. Obviously we were late to church and missed Sunday School that morning... quite a day!

The ear healed, the hair grew back out, and the clothes all got washed. But we learned early that with small children most everything is subject to change at some point... especially schedules. Looking back now, all of us can chuckle about that event.

Finding Christmas

The real Christmas isn't found
In presents from a shopping mall
And dashing back and forth in stores
For many items, large and small.

Jesus Christ is still the reason -
Christmas is His wondrous story.
He was God's most precious gift.
We should praise and give Him glory.

Jesus' name has been erased
From speech and courts and public schools,
But He still lives in many hearts.
He is Lord, and He still rules!

What a wondrous gift God gave,
Of love and joy and hope for all.
The happiness which Jesus brings
Cannot be purchased in a mall.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Mirrors Of Christmas

If this Christmas season were seen in a mirror,
What would be found there in it's clear reflection?
Would there be singing, or sharing and love...
Would anything there point in Jesus' direction?

Would there be scenes of sweet celebration,
Honoring Jesus... rememb'ring His birth?
Who there would practice "good will to all men"
And live in a way to bring peace on the earth?

Christmas has meaning anew every year
As His love is birthed afresh in each heart.
And when this happens, new joy will come forth...
His love and His peace and warmth to impart.

The scenes in the mirror will be lovely indeed,
Recording the love of the Christmas season,
For all that has meaning and really has worth
Is found in our Lord... HE is the reason!

Without Jesus Christ the mirrors will be empty
And will not record a scene or reflection.
The scenes will be lost, for they don't have true meaning,
And will not be worthy of sweet recollection.

We Can Rise Higher

When God gives a path in which we should walk,
It's good to keep focused and not pause or balk.
We should not look to the left or the right
But tread on His path and follow His light.

For His plans hold promise and hope for each life...
To help us to prosper and keep us from strife.
We have potential we don't even know,
And as we're obedient, our path He will show.

We can rise higher than we may have thought
And find rich fulfillment as by Him we're taught.
He makes us worthy. Let His name be praised!
All glory and honor and worship be raised!

"It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places."

Winter White

Winter steals in as autumn's light fades
And brings her own message in snowy charades.
Each of the seasons has colorful flair
Except for sweet winter... all white she will wear.

She takes delight in flurries and flakes,
And when we aren't looking the landscape remakes.
Fairy-tale scenes are her specialty.
The artistry in her rejoices with glee.

While earth has rest she paints all in white
And transforms the scenery to look pure and bright,
Like marshmallow frosting or whipped cream on cake,
...Until in the spring the earth will awake.

Christmas Is Coming!

Christmas is coming! Christmas is coming!
It's time to remember our great Savior's birth...
A time of rejoicing, a time to bring priase
And celebrate Jesus throughout all the earth!

Let choirs make song and many bells ring!
Let music rise up in jubilant sound!
Let our Savior's birth be greeted with joy!
Let banners be drawn and worship abound!

Let the Good News be spread far and wide.
Magnify Jesus throughout all the earth!
Let all that we do in this wonderful season
Bring glory and honor and tell of His worth!

A Sturdy Wall

A life is not strong when sin enters in.
It's "mortar" will crumble and weakness begin.
E'en as a wall with a tiny new crack,
It's strength will then ebb and integrity lack.

At first you can't see it - until it's too late -
But as the crack deepens it brings a sad state.
Under pressure or weight the wall might then fail,
For "dirt" in the crack will cause it to ail.

God can rebuild a wall "rent" by sin.
He'll cleanse all the cracks and put new mortar in.
Repentance will cause the crack to be healed.
By God's healing touch the wall will be sealed.

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
Isaiah 1:18 KJV

The Lighthouse Of The Lord

In the Lighthouse of the Lord
All are welcome to come in.
He stands with arms wide open
To redeem our lives from sin.

The Lighthouse never closes,
Not through storms nor through the night,
But offers hope for aching souls
To those who seek His light.

He saves the lost, heals the lame
And comforts those who mourn.
He cares for every hurting soul
No matter how forlorn.

Come into His Lighthouse.
Let Him touch your life today.
He brings joy for brokenness
And washes pain away.

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Matthew 11:28 KJV

A Faithful "Mom"

A mother hen with little chicks
Gathers them beneath her wing.
She watches for their safety
And to her they closely cling.

This feathered "mom" is very wise,
And doesn't leave her chicks alone.
She watches and she shelters them
From that which is unknown.

Moms and Dads, be careful
Of your children every day.
Know just where they are
And with whom your children play.

Left alone they have no guide
To keep them safe from harm.
If you're not sure just where they are
This is cause for real alarm.

Goodness

"Goodness" builds a pretty house.
Warmth and love she will espouse.
Her rooms are filled with joy and health
And happiness... she has much wealth.

"Goodness" is a choice we make,
Sweet opportunity we take.
She will change our wordly view
From "negative" to "bright and new".

"Goodness" has an open door
Where we may enter and find more.
Her peace and joy are without end.
"Goodness" is a lovely friend.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

Love Is Healing

It's easy to love when all is at ease.
To love on a good day is simply "a breeze".
But what do we do when something goes sour?
Are we loving and kind or cranky and dour?

The love that we show may face a hard test
When things get upset and are not at rest.
But practicing love in times of duress
Will cause us to grow and overcome stress.

This may mean swallowing some pride or "position",
Or holding our tongue in quiet submission,
Showing some patience when we are unhappy,
Not fretting or pouting or just being snappy.

For love is the healing which often is needed,
And it will bring breakthrough if we've interceded.
Love is the key to each situation
And often may be the only salvation.

"Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins - forgives and disregards the offenses of others."
I Peter 4:8 Amplified Bible

Taste And See

God "seasons" our lives with laughter and tears
And "sprinkles" His wisdom throughout all our years,
That we might be filled with heavenly "flavor"
And offer "good news" for others to savor.

He sets a table and bids us to come.
His "fare" is gourmet - even each crumb.
We have rare privilege to dine in His presence
And taste of His goodness in prayer and in reverence.

"O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him."
Psalm 34:8 KJV

God Sees The Heart

Outward appearance can sure be a sham
And cause folks to not know just who I am,
But God sees through this and looks on the heart.
I cannot fool Him with clothing or art.

And what's in the heart will speak through the tongue
And cause my "facade" to be all unstrung.
I can't pretend... it wouldn't make sense.
Before our great God, there is no "defense".

So I will check my actions each day,
Using God's wisdom, lest I go astray.
I want to please Him in action and deed
But sure need His help if I'm to succeed!

"For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."
I Samuel 16:7 KJV

"But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison."

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

HIS NAME IS HIGH

We are surrounded by good and by plenty.
God meets our needs in miraculous ways!
Let us be mindful of His glorious bounty
And lift up a song of thanksgiving and praise..

His name is high... above any other...
Worthy of honor and reverence and praise.
Let us lift up our hearts and hands
And to our great God celebration raise!

"I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear therof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together."

Thanksgiving Thoughts

Thanksgiving brings reminder of God's abundant blessing,
And pilgrims coming from afar, their love of God expressing.
They did not quit or "give up ship" because of hardship's "press",
But stood for freedom valiantly, enduring constant stress.

The first few years were bleak and hard... they paid a very high cost,
And as they suffered in the cold, precious lives were lost.
They labored and stood firm in faith, believing in their cause,
Planting seeds for this great nation... We give them applause!

Thank You, God, for those dear folk who came upon our shore.
The memory of who they were we never should ignore.
They gave up all they had and knew to worship and be free.
Help us be as strong as they... Help us, Lord, to see!

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms."
Psalm 95:2 KJV

A Thanksgiving Memory

At Thanksgiving I always think of Margie...

Margie was a senior citizen in my neighborhood who lived with her daughter and children. But they didn't get along, so Margie moved out into a low-income apartment around the corner.

I knew she didn't have much, but always when I saw her she was cheerful. She fixed her hair, had her make-up on, dressed in bright, pretty colors, and she was very pleasant to talk with. One day she mentioned to me that every night for dinner she had two tacos. It was all she could afford, but she felt that tacos had protein, vegetables and starch, so that was her best choice.

When time drew near to Thanksgiving I inquired of her, "Are you going to have dinner with your children?"

She replied, "No, they didn't invite me. But if I could, I would cook a turkey breast and invite my girl friend to come have dinner. We have such a good time together!"

As I went home and thought this over, I knew I wanted to surprise her. I went to the store and bought a turkey breast, potatoes, stuffing mix, yams and everything she would need for her meal with her firend. I took my full grocery sacks to her door and knocked. When I told her the bags were for her she peaked in, and then her face filled with joy. She was very excited... and showed it.

She didn't need to speak a word. "Thank you" was written all over her.

Brightening Someone's Holiday

There are folks I know,
And I wonder where they go
At the holidays and such....
Or if they will have much.

It causes me to think,
"Will they have a warming drink
Or a meal to satisfy
When poverty draws nigh?"

If we will just ask,
God will show us some small task
In which we could take part
To cheer another's heart.

For one who is alone,
Some act of love we've shown
Might bring some needed light
And serve to make things bright.

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye so even to them..."
Matthew 7:12 KJV

New Clothes

The rich lady wanted to buy some new clothes.
As she sat and pondered just what she should buy
A little old man came and sat by her side.
When she shared her problem, he simply said "Why?"

"I know someone who will clothe you with beauty.
If you will trade Him for what you now wear,
He will provide for you much better garments
Which will be lovely and beyond compare.

"You cannot buy these, for they will be free.
If you come to know my very best friend,
He will adorn you with garments of praise
And a dress white as snow of fine linen blend.

"Your feet will be shod with the Gospel of Peace.
Wisdom and righteousness will be your crown.
Your clothes will be radiant and worthy of honor.
Through Him you'll have place in Heav'nly renown."

She gave some thought to the words she had heard...
"Who was this person who offered new clothes?"
The little man shared about Jesus, his friend,
And how she'd would wear "gold" if His way she chose.

Earthly belongings had not brought her joy,
So she asked his friend to come live in her heart.
She had met Jesus... She had the BEST friend,
And knew that His riches would give her new start.

"I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels."
Isaiah 61:10 KJV

Many Stars

Myriad stars are sprinkled
In the quietness of night
And decorate the heavens
By their gentle, twinkling light.

The stars seem e'er so far away,
Suspended in the sky.
We see them with pure wonder
And their beauty can't deny.

The mystery of the universe,
Hand-formed by our Creator
Is splashed with rich expression
Of a loving decorator!

As many as the stars of night...
The works which He has done...
To bless us each and every day
Since time was first begun.

"O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth."
Psalm 8:9 KJV

EGO

"Ego" is a little word,
But oft it's size is quite absurd.
It pats itself upon the back
And of graciousness has lack.

It boasts and grins and thinks it's wise.
It's much too big for it's own size.
Ego can get one in trouble
When someone comes and "pops it's bubble".

Ego's house is built on sand
And in a wind storm will not stand.
Ego needs to seek firm ground.
Humility is much more sound!

"Love is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride)."

Friendship's Warmth

Fellowship and conversation
Bring us smiles and warm the heart.
What a blessing to have friends
Of whose lives we can be part.

As we share our special thoughts
In sweet exchange we stretch and grow.
The joy we find in one another
Will rest in memory with warm glow.

Thank You, Lord, for all my friends,
Young and old, far and near.
Each one is a treasured gift
And each one is so very dear.

"A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."
Proverbs 17:17 KJV

"Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel."

More Time To Play

A Children's Poem

The more I have and store and keep,
The more I have to clean and sweep.
Some days my toys are in a heap.
This problem makes me want to weep!

If I give some things away
I might have more time to play.
Clean-up time I spend each day
Would then be shorter. Yay! Hooray!

Because my room won't look so bad
I could then please Mom and Dad.
Extra play time this would add...
And THAT would really make me glad!

In Him We Are Able

God is the measure of what we can do
When we trust in Him and His tenets pursue.
He gives us guidance and far-reaching vision,
Then helps us to prosper with strength and precision.

He is the "oil" in the gears of our lives.
It is through Him that "well-being" thrives.
He is the Rock on Whom we may build
And then know our plans will all be fulfilled.

He keeps us ready and balanced and stable.
When we face challenges our God is able
To guard and protect us from going astray.
He is our power and might for each day.

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust."
Psalm 91:1-2 KJV

The Vine And The Tree

Said the tree unto the vine,
"Why do you lean on me?
You should grow your own strong trunk,
Not wrap around a tree!"

Said the vine unto the tree,
"I can't grow tall alone,
So if I cling to you
I'll get up where I am known!"

Tree
But you smother and take over
And my branches cannot breathe!
I need to grow up tall and
I don't like the way you wreathe!

"Therefore, Vine, I counsel you,
Since you were meant to 'creep'.
I will not let you cling to me.
My mission I must keep.

"It's good to stick to who you are...
A pretty flowering vine.
You have a different purpose,
And it's not the same as mine.

"So as you stay near to the ground
And cover things down low,
You will be seen by many
As you make your flowery show."

"Every purpose is established by counsel..."

Remember The Children

Remember the children...
How tender they are.
For how will they prosper?
How will they "star"?

They will need nurture
And guidance to stand,
To really have confidence
For life's demand.

Remember the children...
To pray for each one,
To praise and encourage
And tell them "well-done".

Each little child
Will need lots of love.
Each is a gift
From the Father above.

"Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord."

Brighter Days

We do not know what tomorrow may bring,
But what are we doing to make today great?
It doesn't matter just how we may "feel".
We can't let our fears or emotions dictate.

It's good to think through just how we use time
And start to make effort to change what we do.
Most folks willl find that they can do more
To change life from "dull" to something brand-new.

Then over the years we won't have regrets
And wish that we really had done a lot more.
When we are "doing" we'll be much more happy,
And as time goes by we will have a good score!

"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Winds Of Change

When winds of change are blowing
And direction is not clear,
Ask God to be your compass.
To Him stay very near.

He will help you chart your course
And make your footsteps steady.
As you lean upon His arm
He'll make you to be "ready".

While change is never easy
And you sometimes feel afraid,
Leaning on God's arm will be
The best choice you have made.

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep."

Well Done

Every seamstress knows that her seams will all unravel
If she doesn't tie off threads to make her seams secure.
She must practice diligence in finishing her work
If she wants to make a garment which will wear well and endure.

She has learned a lesson - that details really matter,
And work which is haphazard doesn't meet a final test.
But she can rest in knowing when her work is finely done
That her goal was well-accomplished, for she has done her best.

Always we should strive to work toward excellence and beauty.
In all our daily tasks let us finish with finesse.
Let us bring an offering of quality and worthiness
In honor to our Lord and King, for He would not do less.

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."

God's Paintbrush

When God is the artist, the canvas He paints
Has brush strokes of beauty, color and flair.
All that He touches is rich and unique,
Exquisite and fine, worthy and rare.

His paints are full of compassion and love
And laden with joyousness, courage and hope.
He adds His beauty where "landscapes" are bare
With brightness and colors unending in scope.

He gives attention to minute detail
And studies His work... to give it His best.
Our lives are canvas before our great God.
As He does the artwork we truly are blessed.

"Thank You"

Recently I had a "lunch date" with my son and grandson at Taco Bell Restaurant. While we were there a number of military men came in to have lunch. Now my grandson, Nick, as an eight-year-old boy, has interest in everything military... the camouflage uniforms, the men and especially the Hummers and military vehicles they drive.

While we were there my son took the opportunity to share with Nick how we should always thank the military for serving our country. He wasn't really telling Nick to do it right then, but Nick got up out of his seat, walked across the restaurant to a booth with four servicemen and proceeded to thank them. The men thanked him, and one of the men shook his hand. Nick was not at all shy when he did this. He just took it to heart to do it. I'm sure it touched the men's hearts.

But I was touched also. It is so easy to lead children in the way they should go, and it is so beautiful when they follow in it.

"Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

The Good Old Days

Everyone has fond memories of what they did as children, and children's pastimes have so changed from what they used to be. Here are some of the things I did as a child. This shows how much things have changed over time.

When I was little I played with "pick-up sticks" (made of wood, not plastic); or dolls (that looked like babies); or paper dolls (are these even sold anymore?), or jacks. I remember hanging blankets on our outdoor clotheslines to make a "house" to play in. Boys usually were found playing marbles (do they even do that anymore?)

I had roller skates that clamped on the soles of my shoes, and I had to be careful not to lose the "key" for the skates. Kids played hopscotch or croquet or hide 'n seek, or horseshoes, or jump rope or tetherball. Tire swings were fun too (we don't see those anymore).

Most children were at home with their families at dinnertime. As a family we listened to Dagwood and Blondie or Amos and Andy on the radio and ate lots of popcorn. Families spent more time together.

We didn't have television, fast food, felt pens, portable radios, electronic games, computers, cell phones, or skateboards. And young people often picked berries in summer or delivered newspapers to earn a little money.

I remember soda fountains in drug stores (these were a real treat), and 5-cent ice cream cones at the corner grocery. I used to buy comic books with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck or Felix the Cat. Also popular were "Big Little Books" of Popeye, Little Orphan Annie or Dick Tracy. These were so fun to collect.

Children spent more time outdoors, read more and were more creative with their time. In memory, those were good years.

Compassion

Compassion for the "hurting"
Is a light within the heart...
A generous gift of mercy,
Love and kindness to impart.

Reaching out to one who's lost
Or lifting one who's just worn out,
Encouraging a fearful soul
Is what this "gift" is all about.

Compassion has a message
Which speaks "There is hope for me"
To one who may be failing
And wants to be set free.

Compassion speaks of Jesus' love
And pierces through the dark of "night",
As a lighthouse on the shore,
Sending out it's healing light.

"Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing."

A Season Of Thankfulness

October is over, November is here...
Season's reminder Thanksgiving is near,
...A time to remember what Thanksgiving means,
Other than "holidays" and "cuisines".

This day was birthed in the hearts of a few
Who came "oh so far" from all that they knew,
Seeking to worship their God and their King,
Searching for freedom His praises to sing.

Suff'ring severely, they did not give up,
Believing each day God would fill their cup.
Thanksgiving then was a time to rejoice.
In glory to God they praised and gave voice.

Let us remember these brave, humble folk.
Their faith and example in us should evoke
Prayers and thanksgiving that freedom still rings
And for all of the bounty which God daily brings.

"Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods."
Psalm 95:2-3 KJV

Praying For Our Country

Joining hands where'er we are,
With those close by and those afar,
Working toward a common goal
With unity of heart and soul...

Looking to a greater cause,
Gazing up and giving pause,
To reflect on where we've been
And pray together for all men...

Marching as a single force,
Staying on a God-giv'n course,
Leaving imprints strong and bold
As have patriot men of old.

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"
Psalm 133:1 KJV

We Need You, LORD

We need You, Lord, so very much.
We need Your gentle, healing touch.
Wash and cleanse us from sin's stain,
Lest our lives be spent in vain.

Guide our footsteps day-by-day.
In our lives we give You sway.
Teach us, Lord. Our lives renew,
For all our hope is found in You.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

A Prayer For Our Nation

A tired people, worn and weary,
Praying, standing.... in travail.
Hear our prayer and heal our nation.
Let truth be known and light prevail.

Protect our country, we beseech Thee,
Help us stand and not make error.
As darkness threatens to destroy us,
Strengthen us and hear our prayer.

Guide our leaders, keep them strong.
Let them seek to know Your way,
May they always use Your wisdom
Every hour throughout the day.

Quench the fires of hate and turmoil
Stirred within by evil men.
Help us, Lord, to work together,
In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen.

"Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a
quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."

Too Many Voices

When words and din disturb my peace
I seek the Father's face.
I know I will hear clearly
Whene'er I give Him "place".

His presence stills my flitting thoughts
And soothes my racing mind.
He brings me to a place of rest
And helps me to unwind.

He refreshes and renews
So I can see and hear
The truths that He would show to me
And whisper in my ear.

Many voices may confuse,
So I will seek God's voice.
He will give me balance.
In His words I will rejoice!

"Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them."

God's Generals

The "generals" in God's army
Are oft not seen or heard,
But they move with power and might
And they stand upon His Word.

These prayer warriors have strong faith
To shatter darkness and bring light.
Immovable in their beliefs
They make God's enemies take flight.

These generals march in unity
Of spirit, mind, and hand-in-hand.
Formidable in strength
They are many in the land.

This army will not waver
In it's stance or in it's cry,
But is waging every battle
With great power from on high.

"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

When God Shall Speak

Men make plans and have agendas,
Laying out their goals until...
God Almighty lifts His voice.
In that day men will be still.

Knees shall bow and hearts give laud
As things of earth shall fade away.
Best-laid plans which meant so much
Just will not matter in that day.

Who can stand before His might
Or utter wisdom in that hour?
Only worship shall be found
Before His majesty and power.

God will rule and God will reign
In righteousness throughout the earth.
Only that which He would speak
Then will matter and have worth.

"Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen. I will be exalted in the earth."
Psalm 46:10 KJV

Good vs. Evil

Evil teases with it's guile
And hides behind a "friendly" smile.
Beware of evil's slippery plan!
All it's innuendos ban!

Good brings joy and peace and health
And holds within uncommon wealth.
Goodness is a graceful shield
And promises a fruitful yield.

Goodness counters evil's blight,
O'ercoming darkness with it's light.
Goodness smiles and does it's best
And wins it's battles with finesse.

A Wise Answer

A wise man will ponder
And study to know
Just what is the truth,
So he will be slow...

To speak or make comment
On that which he sees.
He never will hurry
Or just try to please.

For he understands that
Haste can cause error,
So he carefully weighs things
And seeks God in prayer.

When he gives his answer
You'll know he is right.
Because he has prayed
His words will bring light.

"Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding....."

Never Wanting

Jesus always cheers me on
And helps me run my daily race.
He is there to give me balance
For each challenge I may face.

I am confident in Him
In times of weariness or stress,
It is He Who buoys me up
And keeps me strong against duress.

What a joy to walk with Him
And daily hear His precious voice.
Knowing He is there with me
Is constant reason to rejoice!

Footsteps Toward Eternity

Footsteps toward eternity...
We're given just so many.
We should make them count for good,
Not sacrificing any.

Our talents, time and giftedness
Can make the world much better.
As we use them for our God
We will not be life's debtor.

Giving, sharing, loving, caring
All contribute to His cause.
Doing all in Jesus' Name
Will foster heavenly applause.

As we walk our daily paths
We can bring a Heavenly touch
To many who don't know our God,
And then our lives will count for much.

Wind Chimes

My wind chimes have a gentle sound
As breezes cause them to resound.
As I hear their pretty "ring"
Something in me starts to sing.

Without the breeze chimes don't "say much".
The "music" happens as they touch.
God's Spirit moves through wind and chimes,
Bringing gentle, thoughtful times.

The soothing music which I hear
Brings Jesus' presence very near.
I sense His Spirit in the breeze
Ministering beauty, peace and ease.

... A time of meditation sweet
With the Savior to retreat.
... A time to listen for His voice
And in my spirit to rejoice.

"When He uttereth his voice... he bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures."

Laughing With Us

God must need a sense of humor
As He watches us each day,
Tripping, fumbling, getting stuck
As we try to find our way.

Aren't you glad He "picks us up"
And "dusts us off" and smiles
And says, "Okay, let's try again"
When we are having trials?

Aren't you glad He's full of love
And "pats us on the back"?
Even though we may have failed,
His grace is never slack.

When our "feeble" efforts
Are just comic in some way,
Surely He laughs with us,
And He helps us day-to-day.

A Happy Home

A home is built by love and prayer
And lots of tender loving care.
Warmth and laughter are it's measure.
Praise and worship are it's treasure.

Gentle speech and kind expression,
Much forgiveness and confession,
Bring about a special peace
And cause anxieties to cease.

Humbly serving one another,
Sister, Mom, Dad or Brother,
Causes family to bond...
A touch of heav'n and far beyond.

May my moccasins tread lightly
In the ways You have me walk.
May my manner e'er be gentle
In expression as I talk.

May my spirit be serene,
Undisturbed in any way.
May my life be a reflection
Of Your beauty every day.

Storage Rooms

As we keep things in our hearts
And store things in our minds,
We soon have many storage "rooms",
With facts of many kinds.

To keep these rooms in order
It is wise to add God's Word,
For this will keep us balanced
And our strength will undergird.

Perhaps some rooms are closed,
And we haven't oped the door
Because we are not ready
To address what's there in "store".

But God will search our hearts
And discover deep within
Our hidden pain and sorrow
And our deep regret of sin.

When God's Word is welcome
It will balance what is weak.
To every issue we may face
His Word, in love, will speak.

"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him."
Proverbs 30:5 KJV

A Greater Calling

Lord, show us that which we should do
That we might spend our time for You,
Working to fulfill Your call,
Completing tasks both great and small.

No greater calling can there be,
No greater triumph will we see,
Than when we simply make the choice
To follow You and hear Your voice.

In Your plan we'll stretch and grow
And gather wisdom You bestow,
Becoming more than we could be
...Beyond our own ability.

"And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us: yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."

Your Yoke Is Easy

Everywhere I look are needs
But I need to stay within
The guidelines which You have for me
Lest my energies wear thin.

I must only choose to "carry"
What You give me in each day.
Then I won't get "scattered"
And my focus go astray.

I can get the right things done
When I keep my eyes on You.
Your yoke is easy, this I know.
How much these words have proven true.

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Mirror Image

In the mirrors of my life
What reflection will folks see?
In my actions every day
What then will the message be?

Deep within I can't "perform"
Nor "drum up" images to show.
Any image I might have
Will happen as in Christ I grow.

When Christ is inside He'll shine through
And cause reflections in my mirror
Which then cause the folks who look
To see His beauty become clearer.

The mirrors are dull without the Lord,
Clouded o'er without much light.
But when Jesus lives within
Then the mirrors are clear and bright.

"Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

A Higher Road

In all our daily "walk and talk"
There is a higher road,
Beckoning that we should come
And take up new abode.

For when we seek to rise above
Our present daily norm,
We will find a higher plane
To which we may conform.

In Christ we may rise higher
And never will be bound.
As we choose the higher road
His blessings are profound.

Travelling this road with Him
Our way may be unknown,
But we may rest in perfect peace.
In Him, we're ne'er alone.

"It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places."

Autumn Smiles

As summer starts to fade away,
Autumn bursts forth in brilliant dress
To bring to close another season
And usher in the winter's rest.

She adds her own sweet offering
To summer's easy-going days
By painting everything she sees
In fiery colors set ablaze.

But her winds and brisk, cool air
Bring a message of their own.
She will cause us to awake
Out of the summer's ease we've known.

For winter follows close behind.
She, too, will bring her very best.
All the land she will embrace
And bring to all much-needed rest.

Seasons come and seasons go,
But autumn has a secret story.
As she smiles with brilliant color,
She shows to us the Father's glory!

"The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord."

Lullaby

Angel wings, hovering...
Angel wings, covering,
Bringing peace and rest and sleep.
May their watchcare safely keep...

Singing gentle lullabies,
Of flowers and pretty butterflies.
Slumber on, O little child.
May your dreams be soft and mild.

Till you wake up to the dawn
And greet the new day with a yawn,
May your rest be heaven-sent
As angel wings provide your tent.

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."

America, Stand Tall!

America, we must stand tall
And seek to answer wisdom's call!
Lest moral fiber have decay,
Let not good values slip away!

If Godly values should be lost
We would sorely pay high cost.
We were birthed with firm foundation.
God has prospered this great nation.

Listen keenly to His voice,
And through prayer make good choice.
He will guard and guide us still
If we will seek to do His will.

Glad Tidings

... Myriad faces seeking love,
With tear-stained cheeks and weary eyes,
Needing hope and needing promise...
Oh! that they could realize...

That Jesus gave His life for all
And knocks upon their very door,
Offering answers they will need.
He longs to share His love... and more.

But who will tell them, who will go?
How will they hear, and who will care?
They sometimes live right in our midst,
So Jesus might send us to share...

A loving touch or maybe prayer,
A helping hand... or tender care.
We might be whom He would send,
If we're open and aware.

Words Which Heal

"I will listen..."
"May I help you..."
"I have time..."

I will listen when you're hurting,
Maybe lonely, scared or weary.
I will listen to your heart
And try to speak a word that's cheery.

May I help you in some way,
To lift your load or reach your goal?
May I help you find some rest
...Or refreshing for your soul?

I have time and will not rush.
I'll take a moment just for you.
For you are more important
Than whatever else I have to do.

"A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!"
Proverbs 15:23 KJV

Wisdom's Wealth

Wisdom stored within the heart
Is wealth which can't be robbed away.
E'en when banks and systems fail,
God's wisdom "stays" us day-by-day.

Precious wisdom stored within
Becomes a bulwark and a hedge,
A reservoir from which to draw
Whene'er we "teeter near the edge".

As we seek to honor God
And to His Word stay very near,
He will lead and guide us through.
Our prayers and outcries He will hear.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."
Proverbs 9:10 KJV

A New Pet

Said the dog to himself...
I don't like this cat!
She gets in my way
Wherever I'm at!

She's nosy and curious
And sure isn't shy.
She "gets in my face"!
I sure don't know why...

My owners weren't happy
With just having me.
The reason they got her
I can't seem to see!

I do not like being
With someone like her!
I can bark loud,
She only can purr!

She wants to be "friends"...
This sure is a trial.
I guess I'll get used to her
... After awhile.

Always With Us

As we move through life we have "frameworks" around us
Of families and friends who lend us support..
But sometimes we find ourselves standing alone.
It is then we reach up and the Lord's help we court.

But all of the time He was standing quite near,
Ready to reach out and give us His hand.
When leaning on others we sometimes forget
It is Jesus Who steadies and helps us to stand.

He is our source and help for each day.
When we're not strong He always is able.
No matter the depth of the storms we go through,
We're never alone but in Him will be stable.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The Best Course

We need You, Lord, to search us each day,
To guide and direct us lest we go astray.
Search deep within us and root out all flaw.
Help us make change and from error withdraw.

By Your guiding hand we find our best course,
Avoiding the pain of sin and remorse.
Show us Your truths and help us to weigh
Each step that we take... every hour, every day.

"Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day."
Psalm 25:4-5 KJV

Heart Pillows

Sometimes the heart needs a place of softness... a place of comfort upon which to rest and be safely held... where there is warmth and healing, deep satisfying rest from weariness... a place where the heart can shed it's pain and find new hope... and can be renewed in it's joy and happiness.

For the heart is tender and needs to be nurtured in gentleness. As it finds comfort, then laughter will return... and zest for living... and the capacity to love without fear.

The gentle hands of Jesus hold many pillows for the heart... and He is able to restore. He knows the heart's sorrows and will cause it's many scars to fade away.....

Rest in Him.

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me..... to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness....."
Isaiah 61:1,3 KJV

"Thou has turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness."

Time To Be Still

Finding time to be still
Is increasingly hard,
As people "come at us"
Without much regard.

If we aren't careful
We soon can feel "drained".
And then life becomes
Somewhat weary and strained.

We need time with God,
In stillness and thought,
To wash away tensions
Which pressures have wrought.

For in times of stillness
We start to see clearer.
Our vision is opened
As though in a mirror.

And quietly we are
Refreshed and renewed.
And stillness becomes
A blessed interlude.

"Be still, and know that I am God..."
Psalm 46:10 KJV

Grace For Our Nation

The heart of the nation is aching and sore,
And many folks tremble at what is in store.
But healing will come if we'll seek the Lord's face.
We're truly in need of His mercy and grace.

Let us bow down in reverence and prayer.
Let us cry out and all our sins bare.
Our destiny lies in the palm of God's hand.
It is He Who will strengthen and help us to stand.

We need His direction to cure what is ill
And need much correction the turmoil to still.
Man cannot solve this by instinct or pride
But sorely needs God to turn this ill tide.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

No More Tears

God will wipe away your tears.
He is there... your prayers He hears.
He knows the aching of your heart.
He can make the pain depart.

He'll hold your heart and help you heal.
His loving care is very real,
And though your faith might feel quite small,
He will help you stand up tall.

He'll work within to make you strong
And fill you with a happy song.
He is able to make new.
He is faithful... He is true.

"Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness."

Helping One Another

Communities and neighbors
Standing strong in times of need,
Helping one another,
Bring recovery with speed.

We're not meant to stand alone
When we are under stress.
Many hands can make light work
And quickly ease duress.

Encouraging and reaching out
Helps folks to start to cope.
When they're hurting and in need
Others can bring love and hope.

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them..."

The Lord's Path

Sometimes the Lord will plan footsteps for us
Which lead us through the unknown,
But better a pathway in darkness with Him
Than a pathway in light all alone.

Vulnerable we, when we strike out alone,
Foolish and open to error.
When we lose direction, where do we turn?
Who then will save us from terror?

We should not embark on a path led by chance,
Assuming that we'll be okay.
For we cannot see around the next bend,
And that which we had slips away.

So it is best to walk the Lord's path.
He'll guard us and show us the way.
We then are safe in His covering and care
As we trust in him day-to-day.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart: and lean not unto thine own understanding."
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

Autumn's Gentle Reminder

In the autumn when the leaves begin to fall and the earth readies itself for a much-needed rest, it seems nature is issuing a "call".....

Autumn brings to a close all of the "fullness" of the year. For the year has spilled out it's goodness in the quiet reflections of winter, in the loveliness of spring, the beauty of summer days, and in the glorious blaze and harvest of colors in autumn.

It calls us to a time of rejoicing for the multiplied bountifulness of the year..... to give thanks to an incredibly giving Father..... to affirm our foundations in Him anew..... to be in Him and to honor Him in all facets of our existence. Autumn is our reminder to be grateful in all things and always to bring thanksgiving to our loving God.

It is a time of great rejoicing. We serve an awesome and wonderful God!

"Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms, for the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods."

Glorify His Name

God has given each a voice
With which to worship and rejoice.
Let us glorify His name
And His majesty proclaim.

Let us lift up song and praise
And grateful adoration raise.
Let us praise and magnify
The great I AM Who reigns on high!

"Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness! Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord."
Psalm 150:2, 6 KJV

Covered And Safe

In the storm and in the night
When we are fearful and uptight,
Our God will keep us stable.
He is able. He is able.

When circumstance is pressing
And we pray instead of guessing,
Our God will give us peace
And cause all our fears to cease.

We do not stand alone,
For He watches o'er His own.
His eye is on His sheep,
To always cover and to "keep".

"My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber."
Psalm 121:2-3 KJV

The Old Ship

The old ship was docked
In the port for a time...
Ignored and forgotten
And not in it's prime...

Barnacles grew on it's
Once-shiny bow.
It didn't feel useful
And was tired somehow.

While once it was vital
And served a good cause,
Now it could not hear
"Hurrahs" and applause.

This dear old ship
Had once served quite well.
It was not yet ready
To encounter death's quell.

It needed attention
And good T.L.C.,
To once again sail
And master the sea.

The ship was transformed
By the nurture and care
Of those who could see
It's potential in prayer.

This ship had much verve
As it sailed once again.
The latter was more glorious
Than the former...Amen!

"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?"

Filled With Truth

Lord, cause truth to echo through
The chambers of my mind
So my thoughts will always be
Well-balanced and defined.

Let Your wisdom fill my heart
And cause me to be pure,
Changing all that rests within
And weaknesses to cure.

Let my words be tempered
By humility and love,
Flowing forth with gentleness
And wisdom from above.

Let my daily focus be
To walk in holiness with You.
Help me to reflect Your light
In my life and all I do.

"Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom."

A Good Inheritance

In the course of a lifetime
We have plans and goals.
We have much activity
And various roles.

When all's said and done
What will be the sum?
Of all of our efforts
Will there be a crumb...

Of something worthwhile
Which may have brought change?
Or blessings and heritage
For others long-range?

May we see beyond
Our own tiny sphere,
And, having a vision,
Then persevere...

To create an "imprint"
With substance and worth
And in those around us
To vision give birth.

"A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children..."
Proverbs 13:22 KJV

A Dusty Road

We sometimes walk a "dusty" road
To get to where we're going.
And on this road we "stretch" and learn,
For here we do our growing.

Our walk is shaped with each new step,
Perhaps by pebbles, sticks and stones.
And sometimes if we stub a toe
Our feet cry out with moans and groans.

Weariness may take it's toll
And cause our feet to start to ache.
Yet we discover loveliness,
Of which our spirit may partake,

For Jesus walks right by our side,
There in fellowship divine.
He wipes our brow and spurs us on
And fills us daily with "new wine".

He points out joys we wouldn't "see"
And lifts our weary sights above.
In humdrum, daily things we face
He gently teaches us of love.

And so our dusty road becomes
A very worthwhile, happy walk...
Experience that we would not trade
And one we would not think to balk.

"Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways."
Psalm 139:3 KJV

The Greatness Of God

How does one fathom the greatness of God?
There is no ruler or standard or rod
Which ever could measure His size or His might,
Nor grasp of His wisdom or capture His light.

Yet He bows down to care for our needs,
Seeing our labors and noting our deeds,
Tenderly caring for every detail
Of all that concerns us when we have travail.

How does one measure the size of His love,
Poured out upon us from Heaven above?
What song can we sing or offering upraise
Which ever will bring a high-enough praise?

"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable."
Psalm 145:3 KJV

Be On Alert

Facade and deception are "slippery" as oil
And God's ordained plans will subtlely foil.
Facade is not truth and covers intent
To have it's own way, whatever it's "bent".
Deception is crafty and fools many folk
And blinds them to truth with it's charm and false cloak.

May scales fall from eyes and discernment increase,
Lest lies and deception our well-being fleece.
For God will ordain His very best plan
And by heart-felt prayer these evils will ban.
He hears our cries that truth will be spoken
And honors our prayers, lest we should be broken.

People who pray can break through this cloud
Which unthinking people have wrongly allowed.
Let all facts be known and righteousness sown.
Let us see through sham and our minds sharply hone
To rightly divide the "message" we hear.
God gives us answers... in Him truth is clear!

"His truth shall be thy shield and buckler."

True Rest

When you're anxious or just tired
And feel you're up against a test,
You seem to labor and to toil...
Jesus says, "Just rest."

You may stumble or may fall
Or circumstances may detest.
Life's negatives can overwhelm,
But Jesus says, "I'll give you rest."

Jesus Christ will heal your wounds
And soothe you when you're sorely pressed.
He is able to bring peace.
In Him you'll find enduring rest.

"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him..."
Psalm 37:7 KJV

The Little Things

It often is "the little things"
That speak of who we are
And not the "great and obvious"
Which stand out from afar.

When love is tucked within our hearts
It speaks in "tiny" ways
And reaches out with bright finesse
To brighten others' days.

So when we add "that extra touch"
To everything we do,
We can bless another soul,
And we will be blessed too.

"Love is kind..."

The Holy Place

The Holy Place.....

That place of sanctuary where every whisper of my heart can be shared with my Lord, and where every whisper is heard.

That place where God's presence and love surround me, and where He awaits my coming.

That place where the communication and the sharings of our hearts together... His heart and mine... bring light and insight and encouragement.

A place set apart from the din and noise and distractions of the day... my hiding place.

A place of wonder.

A place which is so rich and wonderful that time is of no consequence... only the desire to stay and absorb it's beauty.

The Holy Place... a place of unspeakable joy.

Repentance

Repentance is a turning back...
Away from that which is not right.
For sin and error take their toll
And turn one's life into a fright.

Error often makes one stumble,
Blurring truth with it's sad song.
And having sin and courting it
Brings poor reward... because it's wrong.

Sin is oft deceptive
And will offer up much pleasure,
But it simply isn't worth it.
It brings sorrow in huge measure.

Repentance is the answer
As the path to higher ground...
A way to joy and freedom
From the chains which keep one bound.

"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."
II Peter 3:9 KJV

Prayer For Healing

Lord, let Your precious healing flow.
Wash and make us white as snow.
Take our aching and our pain.
Restore us and strong health ordain.

Keep us "fixed" as days go by.
Increase our faith as we draw nigh.
Lend to us Your mighty power
To overcome in trial's hour.

For we are able by Your might
To travel through the dark of night
And rise triumphant with the morn
As we on angels' wings are borne.

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust..."

Pure Gold

God's Word is as gold...
It never grows old
And speaks down through time
In rich paradigm.

Unchanging and true,
In lives it will hew
A pathway of glory
And tell a bright story.

To people and nations
It offers foundations
Upon which to build,
Whether skilled or unskilled.

His Word speaks today
And is a strong "stay",
A very blessed Guide...
A place to abide.

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

A Beacon Of Light

In someone's life you may be a beacon,
The sole ray of light which they can see,
The only thread of life and hope
To which they cling precariously.

You may be the pillar of strength
Which lends them courage to go on.
Your strength and light will buoy them up
When they are feeling lost and wan.

If some days you ponder
Whether what you do has worth,
That might be the very day
On which your life gave birth...

To help a crushed and hurting soul
Find strength in which to stand
And in a very desperate time
To not let go God's hand.

Never question anything
That God would have you do.
You may be the chosen one
Whom He is working through.

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

In His Hand

Why do we worry about where and how God places us? If we are in His hand, we are well cared for!

God does not just set us down and then forget about us for a time, but He keeps an eye on our position and our welfare at all times. His attention is focused on us and on the way He can most bless us. He goes before us to prepare our path. He brings substance out of nothingness, and He makes us to be ever so much more than we thought we could be.

The design He has for each life is much greater than what we can see or grasp. In Him we are enabled to fulfill commissions larger in scope than our own thinking could comprehend.

He may place us in a variety of situations over time... for learning, for "exposures" to certain circumstances, to gain insights... all the time using every aspect of our experience to lovingly shape us into that vessel He had in mind. We now only see a portion of His overall plan, but as we rest in His hand, in faith, His sovereign plan will unfold before our very eyes.

"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."

Autumn's Flare

Autumn paints with brilliant flare
To dress the land in colors bold.
She will pull out "all the stops"
And splash about her red and gold.

She'll celebrate the passing year
In festive manner with her art
And show to us her myriad hues
Before the winter has it's start.

Autumn leaves a special warmth
To cheer us on in days to come
And then she quietly withdraws
As winter starts to play it's drum.

"O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"

Forgiving Hearts

The sting of words ill-spoken
Sometimes cannot be erased.
They speak the heart's intention
When with bitterness they're laced.

Forgiving hearts speak gentle words
Of kindness, love and peace,
And seek to live in such a way
That hate and strife will cease.

Forgiveness daily is the key
To health and smiles and cheerfulness.
It heals and soothes the aching heart
And drives away all fearfulness.

Ill-spoken words forgotten
Can no longer issue pain.
As forgiveness has it's way
It comes as soothing rain.

"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

Being A Friend

Many people need a friend,
An angel unawares,
Just to help them through the day
Or know that someone cares.

A little lady came to me.
Her eyes were filled with tears.
She was weary from abuse
And had so many fears.

In her body she was aching,
Her emotions were worn down.
As she talked I understood
Why she sometimes wore a frown.

She is one of many folks
Who carry burdens every day.
These are those who need a friend
To bring encouragement and pray.

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."

Changing Times

A Prophecy

The seasons are changing. We cannot turn back, for the old season is gone.

The new season will bring challenges and opportunities, and those who try to linger in the old season will not be able to keep up. Move forward. Keep pace with this timing.

Be expectant. Expect to see the goodness of God... accomplished in the mist of confusion. Watch to see His hand moving in miraculous ways to hold back the tide of darkness. Listen for His voice in the quiet times. Be "quickened" by the power of the Spirit, and when things do not appear to be well, you shall be well in Him.

Be expectant. Rejoice in Him!

Remember Jesus

Remember Jesus... take Him with you.
He will change and make you new.
You will see with brand new eyes
And more and more will realize...

That He has answers for each day,
Every hour... in every way.
Meditate upon His Word.
Let your mind and heart be stirred.

His perspective will not fail.
It's always right... and never "stale".
Remember Jesus every day.
In His shadow always stay.

Gladness In Him

The joy of the Lord
Brings smiles and gladness
To offset life's trials
And shield us from sadness.

His joy is our strength
Through thick and through thin,
For He gives us courage
And peace deep within.

We can rise up
From pain and despair
And conquer our challenges
By faith and prayer.

He is our sunshine
For times which are "grey".
He is our source
Of joy for each day.

How To Win

If we want to win a prize
We should study to be wise.
For diligence to small detail
Will soon add up to good avail.

Every 'contest" will have rules,
And we may need to gain some tools
With which to reach our treasured goal
And then be worthy to enroll.

When we're willing to prepare
And wrap our goals with constant prayer,
Then we're ready deep within
And God will prosper us to win.

Be Still

When your day is "off and running"
With many quotas to fulfill,
Your stack of work is waiting
And some "battles" are uphill...
Be still.

Keep your spirit quiet,
Don't let "schedule" make you ill.
Ask the Lord to give you peace
And strengthen you until...
You're still.

Draw upon His steadiness.
Your spirit He'll refill.
He will take you through your day
And add to you His skill...
Be still.

The Favor Of God

The ways of God are greater
Than we can comprehend.
His far-surpassing wisdom
Our own thinking will transcend.

But as we trust His guiding hand
And follow in His ways,
He will give us vision
In the coming months and days.

To walk in His great wisdom
Will cleanse us deep within
And set our feet upon a path
Which causes us to win.

Prosperity and safety
Will be found beneath His hand.
The favor of Almighty God
Is that which helps us stand!

A True Friend

It's wise to be careful
When choosing a friend,
Asking the Lord
Someone "true-blue" to send.

For friends that WE make
And the friends we would keep
Might not bring us joy
And may cause us to weep.

For God looks at hearts
And will make us aware
Of those who aren't right.
He guards us from error.

So we should be careful
To not make mistake,
For friends will influence
Life-choices we make.

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

An Exciting Journey

Lord, as I seek to follow You
Then I won't miss all I should do.
Your potential which is in me
Then will blossom and be free.

For my life You have design,
And every day You will define
All the steps that I should take
And preparations I should make.

As I follow carefully
And daily seek You prayerfully
My life will be exciting.
Each new day will be inviting.

So I am on a daily quest
To find Your plan and do my best.
Then I'll be all I can be
And will fulfill Your plan for me.

"Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments."
Psalm 119:73 KJV

A Ready Heart

Lord, every day is fresh and new,
With chance to do some thing for You,
A brand-new opportunity
To shine in our "community".

"Community" might mean "our street",
A stranger or a friend to greet,
Or maybe be the corner store
Or the one who lives next door.

"Community" might be at home
Where little children play and roam.
It might be in our own back yard,
Or places where we've not tried hard.

Every day we can make choice
Encouragement and cheer to voice.
We only need a ready heart
The love of Jesus to impart.

"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."
Proverbs 25:11 KJV

A Happy Book

If I could write a book to read
I think I'd "plant some happy seed".
I'd fill it's pages with good cheer
And make all sorrow disappear.

Laughter is a healing balm
Which soothes the soul and makes us calm.
Happiness is pleasant treasure,
Bringing warmth in plenteous measure.

I would pen words of delight
To make the heart feel glad and bright.
Joy and laughter offset sorrow
And lift our hearts to face the morrow.

"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul; and health to the bones."
Proverbs 16:24 KJV

Many Voices

There are many voices in the land
But only one that matters.
When we heed the voice of God
All "darkness" flees and scatters.

Who can stand before our God
And think that he is right?
Oh, how sad the state of man,
How pitiful his plight.

He with insight will entreat
The favor of Almighty God
And ever seek His wisdom
For each step his foot must trod.

Society has changed it's "views"
But truth and justice still will stand.
God is great in power and might...
We need the blessing of His hand.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."
Proverbs 9:10 KJV

God's Riches

Man struggles and labors and works to be rich
And thinks by so doing he'll find his own "niche".
But money and riches may all flee away,
And that which he clings to his soul will betray.

True riches are found as we honor the Lord.
It is He Who will prosper and bring us reward.
We, of ourselves, cannot build a "tower".
We simply don't have the might or the power.

As we seek His "riches" He'll meet every need.
He'll pour out His blessings to help us succeed.
The blessings He gives can't be robbed away.
These are rich treasures which will not decay.

"Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Matthew 6:20-21 KJV

The Daily News

When we turn on the news
We're bombarded with trouble
And shaken by scenes
Of destruction and rubble.

We see people suffering
With no place to go.
Those who lost loved ones
With grief are bent low.

And then we hear those
Who point fingers and bicker,
When working together would
Get things done quicker!

This we can do....
With much prayer intercede
For those people who lead
And for people in need.

For our God will help them
This time to get through.
He will strengthen and lead them
To know what to do.

"Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
And attend to the voice of my supplications.
In the day of my trouble I will call upon You,
For You will answer me."
Psalm 86:6 NKJ

Salvation's Gift

Salvation picks up the lowliest soul,
Gives him new hope and makes him whole.
Salvation chooses the soul we can't touch,
That one who has nothing... but then will have much.

Salvation is able to wash away sin,
To replace stain and spot with beauty within.
Salvation transforms and always makes new.
This is Christ's gift... to me and to you.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:16 KJV

A Perfect Work

Patience is a virtue which will
Always start quite small,
But as it's practiced over time
Will "stand", whate'er befall.

It often is the factor
Which ensures that we will "win",
For it spurs us on in "battle"
From the time that we begin.

As we learn to rest and wait
And diligence pursue,
We will learn about God's grace
And have a whole new view.

"But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."
James 1:4 KJV

The Wind Of The Spirit

When the wind of the Spirit blows hard in a life
To remove cumulation of rubble and strife,
Uncovering gold and cleansing within,
Preparing that life a new work to begin...

There is a point of not looking back
But moving ahead on a positave "tack",
Of walking in faith toward a God-given goal,
Trusting in Him to be in control.

By His able hand we reach a high place
As we are submitted and walking in grace.
How high the goal? How high the sky?
That our God is able we cannot deny.

Only in Him can we fulfill our call,
Climbing our mountains, however tall,
Learning each day just how we should live,
Walking sure-footed each path He would give.

"It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places."
Psalm 18:32-33 KJV

My Book Of Life

When my life is written down
And I await my heav'nly crown,
How much love will there be found?
Will God's beauty there abound?

Have my writings been for others,
Friends and sisters, children, brothers?
Has compassion brought sweet rest
To someone needing to be blessed?

May my record kindness show,
May my pages shine and glow
Because I've bowed at Jesus' feet.
Only there is life complete.

So when my life is written down
And I await my heav'nly crown,
I pray my "book" will be unique
And into many lives will speak.

"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God."
Colossians 1:10 KJV

Building Blocks

Building blocks of prayer and wisdom...
Sturdy platforms for each day,
Firm foundations built in prayer
Which will not shake or lean or sway.

These are built on holy ground
And will not crumble or decay,
But will stand and blossom forth
In holiness with sweet bouquet.

Barrenness will find new life,
Deep desires will take on form,
Beauty will rise up to "speak"
With answers far beyond the norm.

Building blocks of prayer and wisdom
Will not falter but will grow,
Bringing us God's wondrous answers,
And His blessings to bestow.

"Pray without ceasing."
I Thessalonians 5:17 KJV

"Wisdom is the principal thing: therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."
Proverbs 4:7 KJV

A Soft Touch

Kindness speaks softly.
Kindness does not compete.
Kindness does not fear.
Kindness moves forward quietly, doesn't look for attention.
Kindness has quiet strength.

Kindness is forgiving.
Kindness rests in confidence... is not intimidated.
Kindness is loving and gentle.
Kindness has it's eyes open to the needs of others.

Kindness smiles... and reaches out.

"And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another (readily and freely), as God in Christ forgave you."
Ephesians 4:32 Amplified Bible

Paintings

The artist has a palette
Of bright colors he can use.
And he blends them as he paints
In a potpourri of hues.

The writer uses words,
As he "paints" with much detail,
To convey his thoughts and stories
In a colorful portrayal.

Paintings made with words,
Using beautiful expression,
Can heal and bring contentment
Or make valuable impression.

Blending words together
In delightful camaraderie
Can brighten up a rainy day
With stories, warmth and comedy.

The artist and the writer
Speak the language of the heart
With paintbrush and with pen...
One in writings, one in art.

A Safe Haven

Through Christ we have promise of goodness and love,
Of joy and of peace from the Father above.
In Him we have strength, though we may be weak.
In Him we find hope when the future looks bleak.

Whenever we face what may be unknown
We have assurance that we're not alone.
He is our haven, our place of retreat.
In Him we are "able", in Him we're complete.

"He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honour him."
Psalm 91:15 KJV
