Treasure In Heaven

Extravagance is such a waste
When too much excess is embraced.
Often it becomes a weight
And then creates a too-full plate.

Maintenance may have high cost,
And time for urgent things is lost.
Folks are often more content
When money is more wisely spent.

"Wealth" is best when shared with others...
Charity or needy brothers.
Worldly goods have little worth,
But when shared, to love give birth.

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Matthew 6:19-21 KJV

Change Is Coming

God is speaking to His people...be alert to hear His voice. When we are in tune with Him, we have reason to rejoice!

Sometimes we are so "planted" right where we are that "change" is not a word we want to hear. But we are in a new and different season, and maybe the old "comfort zone" will not be the best place to be.

Be ready. Be in a mindset of readiness so you don't feel off guard when change approaches. Be flexible... don't fight it... flow with it... and it will be so much easier.

God goes before us and graciously prepares our way. He guides our footsteps so that we do not stumble. We are safe in His leading.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

Times Of Healing

Brokenness is not all bad,
For when we reach the "healed" side
We'll look back and we'll realize
We're safe when we in Christ abide.

He is able to bring joy,
Give us hope and chase our fear.
In these times He nurtures us,
Lifts us up and brings us cheer.

As we move past brokenness
And out of "darkness" into light,
We will move past weariness
Into new days which are bright.

"But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill."
Psalm 3:3 KJV

"Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing; thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness."

Draw Nigh Unto God

Draw nigh unto God in times of great fear.
He is our refuge should "panic" come near.
Oh, what great comfort, to be in His shelter
When things all around us become helter-skelter.

Take time to pray... breathe in His deep peace
Until His tranquillity brings sweet release.
Rest in His shelter... don't let fear return.
Give to the Lord your every concern.

His hand is steady when we're feeling weak.
He is our strength when outlook seems bleak.
Should we feel panic, remember He's able
To keep us in peace and quietly stable.

"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters."
Psalm 23:3 KJV

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty, (Whose power no foe can withstand)."

Receiving God's Best

Are we keeping ourselves from God's very best?
The more that we seek Him, the more we are blessed.
When we get caught up in mundane distractions
We may be cheating ourselves by our actions.

We may not think that we're being cheated,
But if we've "slept" or simply retreated
We may not realize there is a cost...
Time and well-being perhaps may be lost.

When God thinks of us, He only thinks good.
When we are focused we'll "move" as we should,
Learning from Him, receiving His best.
And as we seek Him we truly are blessed.

"I, the Lord, will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you."
Psalm 32:8 Amplified Bible

Let Truth Break Forth

A Prayer For Our Nation

Let truth break forth... let there be light!
Let fires of righteousness burn bright,
Exposing evil's shady works
And cleaning out where'er it lurks.

Righteousness is fresh and pure...
For nagging problems is the cure.
Let honesty and truth prevail
And all deceptive plans derail.

May we rise in strength and power
And not be blind in this late hour.
May our eyes be opened wide
To see in Whom we should abide.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance."
Psalm 33:12 KJV

Autumn's Music

How lovely is the countryside
As Autumn is preoccupied
With splashing beauty everywhere
And causing trees bright hues to wear.

Autumn has a certain flair
And spends great effort to declare,
"I won't let the winter come
Until I've danced and "played my drum".

Her bright rhythm and her song
Invite us all to hum along.
She works hard to bring us cheer
As we move toward the end of year.

Autumn has a special gift,
Her warmth and glow our hearts to lift.
She always does her very best
And causes us to be much-blessed.

"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise."
Psalm 98:4 KJV

Rich Treasure

The Holy Spirit guides us in all we say or do.
He gives us rare perception... an enhanced and different view.
To see or hear as He would see is thrilling and unique.
He adds a new dimension to the way we think or speak.

The limitations which we have will oft get in the way,
But the Spirit of the Lord will be with us as we pray.
The anointing which He gives will bring wisdom in new measure.
To know Him and to hear His voice is a precious treasure.

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."
John 16:13 KJV

A Changing Season

Through the years I have enjoyed many activities... sewing, stitchery, decorating, gardening, etc. Each one was a blessing and useful at the time. These activities were wonderful in the former season. But now the Lord is saying to me that some of these things must fall away from me, that unless they do I cannot fit into the "house" He has for me. And they don't matter as much now. To continue to do all these things would be like carrying extra baggage around.

I do not know what is before me. I cannot see yet... or know. But I feel relief in knowing that my lack of interest in the former things is part of preparation for a new season.

He told me He was preparing me to walk on a higher ledge. (This reminds me of the Scripture which talks about hinds' feet in high places" - Psalm 18:33), and that I can't carry a wide load on a narrow ledge. (God has a good sense of humor.)

Some days, when all of my favorite things began to fall away from me, I felt discouraged and wondered what was happening to me. At times I did not feel good about it. But now, as I look at what is happening I can see that God's hand is in this. And I am encouraged. He is faithful and He knows my needs. And He also knows what I don't need anymore! Hallelujah!

"He makes my feet like hinds' feet (able to stand firmly or make progreess on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble); He sets me securely upon my high places."
Psalm 18:33 Amplified Bible

Unshakeable Peace

The peace of the Lord is gentle and pure...
For any anxiety... a wondrous cure.
As fresh, cooling waters it soothes and it calms...
An oasis of rest and sweet, healing balms.

Let it become the water you drink,
The air that you breathe, the thoughts that you think.
The peace of the Lord will change how you live.
A restful perspective and joy it will give.

Peace is a "fortress" of God's might and power
Where we may rest in troublesome hour.
He is our shelter from wind and from storm
Or anything else which just is not norm.

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
John 14:27 KJV

God's Perfect Timing

As we serve, God fills our cup,
And in His time we are raised up,
But we must start at the beginning.
Shortcuts do not lead to "winning".

Serving in the little ways
Is a most important phase.
Learning here to be content
Is preparation time well-spent.

If we're patient step-by-step
The Lord will give us needed "prep".
We'll grow in wisdom and in grace
As we are in His perfect pace.

"He hath made every thing beautiful in his time."
Ecclesiastes 3:11 KJV

My Hummingbird Friend

This little bird, so quick in his flight,
Brightens my day... is a precious delight.
He "visits" my flowers, pausing mid-air,
And savors the nectar which he enjoys there.

He doesn't linger, but quickly moves on,
Visiting flowers hither and yon.
But in that moment when he darts by,
I feel like my heart to God has drawn nigh.

This little bird is one of God's treasures
To cheer us and bring sweet memories and pleasures.
Though he be small, he brings a big smile.
I always wish that he'd linger awhile.

"And God created... every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good."

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Young folks frown upon "the past"
Because they're traveling too fast.
"It's passe', it makes me yawn.
I have no intrerest... it is gone!"

They desire "the latest thing".
Whatever's "in"... to that they cling.
They are caught up in "today".
"Near the action" they will stay.

Some are speeding toward tomorrow,
Buying things (for which they borrow).
They are in a fruitless race
And need to find a balanced pace.

The past had values all should learn,
And for it's wisdom they should yearn.
To have perspective for today,
Important choices they must weigh.

Some things change, but some things don't.
Jesus' life and teaching won't.
Foundation which He gives is sound.
In Him is right perspective found.

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever."

A Message Of Cheer

Be a messenger of cheer
To all who may be near.
Change the atmosphere or "view"
With a happy note or two.

Have a sunshine smile ready
For some who feel unsteady.
If you sing a happy tune
Maybe they'll be singing soon.

Your joy will be contagious
And help others be courageous.
Be a courier of cheer.
You will bless those who are near.

Jesus Changes Lives

He makes good folks out of bad
And downhearted people glad.
He will fill an empty soul
With His love and make him whole.

He will heal a wounded child
Whose aching heart has never smiled
Or give courage to the fearful
And sweet laughter to the tearful.

His compassion is a gift
To those who dearly need a lift.
His faithfulness is truly great...
His goodness we should celebrate!

"Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips." Psalm 63:3-5 KJV

Music Of The Heart

When rhythms of two hearts agree
Then life becomes a melody...
A pleasant song with lovely tune.
With love and joy the hearts commune.

When apart the hearts still sing
The tune they know... to it they cling...
For when they first became as one
A lovely journey was begun.

On and on the song will play
To brighten each and every day.
When it rests within the heart,
A special love it will impart.

Choice Silver

A wise man studies to learn fact...
To idle info won't react.
If he's not sure, then he will weigh
What he has heard... and then will pray.

He will measure every word
To make sure truth is never blurred.
Carefully he works things through,
Then will speak his "studied" view.

Those with wisdom we should hear,
For always they will be quite clear.
As they speak, rich truth we glean...
Wisdom on which we can lean.

"In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. The tongue of the just is as choice silver..."

Soaring In The Spirit

In my spirit I can fly
And mount up with my wings on high.
I will never be earth-bound.
God will show me things profound.

He enables me to soar,
His heavenly riches to explore.
By His Spirit I will "see"
With sight unhindered and set free.

The Spirit's wind beneath my wings
Lifts me above life's mundane things.
In my spirit I will fly
And to the heart of God draw nigh.

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for thenm that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God."

No Mountain Too High

When barriers seem uncrossable,
God will make it possible.
Though life's hurdles may seem high,
Don't give up or sit and sigh.

God can reach the highest peak
And to your mountain clearly speak.
When things seem too hard for you,
Trust in Him to see you through.

He will reassure your heart,
Love and joy and grace impart.
Trust in Him, for He is there.
He hears your cry and fervent prayer.

"Ah, Lord God! Behold thou hast made the heaven and
the earth by thy great power and stretched out
arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee."
Jeremiah 32:17 KJV

Strength Through Prayer

Prayer heals frazzled nerves,
And peace of mind it oft preserves.
No matter just how great our stress,
Prayer gives us calm finesse.

We shouldn't wait till troubles come
And leave us feeling somewhat numb.
God will guard each step we make
As we in times of prayer partake.

Prayer gives us strength to face
Great challenges with quiet grace.
God brings balance to our day
If we faithfully will pray.

"Be careful for nothing: but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

A Heart For Others

My father's family came from Russia in the early 1900's. They had been people of means in Russia, but when they came to the United States they had only the two sets of clothes on their backs. Dad learned to work hard early in his life, and as I look back I remember him as always working very hard. But I also remember him as having a heart for poor people and for those in need.

This story comes to mind... we had a crab apple tree in the backyard which attracted neighborhood children. They would pick the apples (green crab apples are very hard), throw them and have fights with them. Dad was afraid they would hurt each other or break windows with them. He told them that if they would stop picking them, when they were ripe he would give the apples to them. The children became his friends, and he did give the apples to their family.

Numerous times he helped our neighbors... fixing plumbing, catching moles (he knew just how to set the traps and he got them every time), repairing bicycles or whatever else needed fixing.

But one of his best "works" was mowing a neighbor's lawn every week in addition to doing our lawn. The couple across the street were both crippled. The man was in a wheel chair, and his wife had had polio. (One of her legs was much shorter than the other). Even though he daily worked physically hard, he never missed doing their lawn. He loved helping them.

The stories are many... he always tried to help others when he saw a need.

Take Time To Pause

Through the day take time to pause
And give the Lord heartfelt applause.
Give Him praise and honor due
For all the gifts He's given you.

Look into His lovely face
And ponder His redeeming grace.
The love He shows to you and me
Is as an endless potpourri.

His beauty will refresh your day
And push your worries far away.
Receive His beauty... breathe it in.
He'll cause your day to be win-win!

"Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness."

As Seasons Change

Summer sang her pretty song,
But now she marches right along,
Knowing that her stay is short.
To Autumn she must soon give court.

She has warmed our hearts and lives.
We're always glad when she arrives.
But soon we'll see her wave "good-bye"
As Autumn's jubilee draws nigh.

For Autumn also has a song
And has been waiting all year long
To do what she seems to do best.
By her color we'll be much blessed.

"O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"

Helping Our Children

I'm thinking of our children
As they start a new school year.
What will they be taught
And what values will they hear?

The truth is bent to suit new trends,
Confusing little minds.
Unless we help them sort it out,
They'll learn errors of all kinds.

Their books have been rewritten
To reflect these current trends,
Eliminating moral truth
And leading toward wrong "ends".

Children need good balance
As they learn just how to live.
Parents, teach them wisdom.
Understanding to them give.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

A Safe Niche

No matter our trials, no matter our storm,
No matter the testings which just are not norm,
Always in Jesus we have blessed hope.
If we just trust, new doors He will ope.

He brings refreshing when we're all worn out.
He'll make us strong, e'en though we have doubt.
In times of great need, He fills us with joy.
He is our peace... an uplifting buoy.

Those who have suffered will know this is true.
Our God is faithful to help us "come through".
Though we have nothing, in Him we're still rich.
Covered in Him we have a safe niche.

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty (Whose power no foe can withstand). I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; in Him I lean and rely, and in Him I (confidently) trust!"

He Heard My Prayer

God heard my prayer, and He met my need...

My need was for a new pair of shoes. This might not seem like much of a need, but I wear special shoes, and when I don't have them it causes lots of problems in my hip. The pair I was wearing broke down on the inside and was no longer good.

I didn't have money for a new pair, but in faith I called the shoe store and asked them to hold a pair in my size, telling them I would come soon to get them. This situation needed a quick answer.

The girl who answered the phone said to me, "Oh, I forgot to call you. You won a drawing."

This startled me. I said, "What drawing?"

She answered, "Don't you remember? The last time you were in you signed up for a drawing and you won. You have a new pair of shoes waiting for you."

It took a moment for me to realize what I was hearing. My reply was, "You mean I get a free pair of shoes?"

The beauty of what had happened was really impacting me. Obviously, God was in the mix here. I still don't recall that there was a drawing, but somehow He provided these shoes for me.

God is not limited in His ability to provide for us. When we love Him and serve Him He goes before us, preparing our way, providing for all our needs, and making a safe path for us.

I am so grateful for His lovingkindness.

Retreat

Retreat with God to the "quiet place".
Learn of peace and of His grace.
Escape the din of daily duty.
Find dimensions of His beauty.

Let His Spirit flow through you
To wash, refresh and make you new.
He will soothe life's wear and tear
If you will wait and linger there..

Priceless... His tranquillity,
From tension's wares to set us free.
His presence brings a peace replete
When with Him we seek retreat.

"Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them."

God Watching Over Us

At one point in my life I had no money coming in. I was low on oil for my furnace and didn't know how I was going to keep warm. My mom gave me fifty dollars to put a little oil in the tank so I wouldn't run out, but winter was coming and I knew that fifty dollars worth of oil wouldn't last long.

While the oil company was there putting the oil in the tank, a neighbor walked over to me and asked, "How much oil are you getting?"

I answered him, "However much fifty dollars will get for me."

He walked over to the oil man and was talking with him, then went into his house.

When I went to pay the oil man my fifty dollars, he said that the neighbor had handed him one hundred dollars for more oil.

I had been really down that day, but God was right there to lift me up. We never know how He will provide for us or who He will use, but His hand is not shortened to help us!

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."

Black And White

"Black and white" is crisp and clean,
Clearly, it's position seen.
But "grey" we need to contemplate.
Usually it speaks "hesitate".

Issues which are not quite clear
Can easily bring problems near.
Wisdom's voice says "study more
All grey's angles to explore".

Pray for wisdom when not sure
To discern what isn't pure.
As you put "grey" to the test,
Remember, black and white is best.

"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."

Angels On Duty

My daughter drives a classic caar - a 1966 Mustang.

The former owner of this car didn't do the repair work on it properly. "Bucket of bolts" and "held together with bubble gum and baling wire" would be apt references here. Sometimes I wonder what kept it running, except for the fact that I pray for my daughter and know God watches over her. She herself says that every time she gets in the car she prays, "God, get me where I'm going".

Recently she was coming to my house, traveling on a freeway, and lost the water out of her radiator. She pulled off to the side, got out of the car, and started to lift up the hood of the car. Before she could get the hood up, a van with three fellows stopped. One fellow said to her, "I have a '65 Mustang. I think I can fix your problem."

As he checked to see what the problem was, he found that a "cap" had broken from age, causing the water to drain out. He went to his van, came back with a "cap" and put it on her car. She didn't know what the cap was from, but it exactly fit the car.

The fellows had bottled drinking water in their van, and they poured it in her radiator. Then they offered to follow her to the exit where she would leave the freeway to make sure she would get off safely. They would take no pay for helping her.

What a miracle! She didn't lose more than ten minutes' time in her trip, and the car was running fine.

As she told me about this, I laughingly commented, "Well, that may have been the only place in this whole metro area where the part which was needed was available (because the car is so old), and God knew right where the part was.

When I later shared this story with a friend, his comment was, "Angels. It was angels..." And then I realized. God had sent angels to help her.

"For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."

Confidence

Ideas from God bring innovation,
Leading one to bright creation...
Art or music or design,
Or something which will truly shine.

In God we are not limited,
Nor should we feel inhibited.
What He causes us to see
Is then a possibility.

If in Him we will believe,
He will help us to perceive
How to do what He has shown...
Which we couldn't do alone!

A Merry Heart

Laughter and joy are good for the soul.
Cheerfulness is a wonderful goal.
It isn't dependent on how life might be.
It's more about choice and the way that we "see".

We needn't be glum when life gets us down.
Light-hearted perspective will offset a frown.
When challenges come, remember to smile.
Laughter and fun will lighten your trial.

Choose to be positive, whate'er may come.
Laughter is good if your day is ho-hum.
You will have joy... your trials will feel lighter.
With changed perspective your life will be brighter.

"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones."

Rejoice In God's Covering

When a door closes, it may not be bad.
If God closed the door, then we should be glad.
He watches over our steps every day
And He goes before us to "ready" our way.

We're in safe keeping when we lean on Him.
Without Him our hopes would maybe be dim.
We may not know where His steps would lead.
He may surprise us and sow some "new seed".

In all of His leading for us we will grow
If we are open His purpose to know.
We do not know what may be ahead,
But we will be blessed if by Him we're led.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Do Unto Others

Everywhere I look are needs
And chances to do many deeds.
Sometimes folks will need to hear
Encouragement from someone near.

But others need a little more...
To walk their dog or sweep their floor,
Watch their children for a bit,
Or, if they're lonely, just to sit.

If you connect to help someone
God will honor what you've done.
You may make a valued friend
As a helping hand you lend.

You may help them just one time,
But at that moment you are prime.
Usually they won't forget...
Because a simple need you met.

"And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise."
Luke 6:31 KJV

God In The Workplace

My brother is an engineer who, in years past, worked for a large power company. At times his job included some interesting challenges...

His company had built a large power generator in another state, and when they started it up it began to overheat. If the problem couldn't be corrected within twenty-four hours the generator would burn itself up, at a cost of half a million dollars. So the company sent my brother there to trouble-shoot the problem (already losing valuable time as he travelled.).

He worked with the men on site, going over the schematics for the generator and checking every possible trouble point, but they could not find the problem. So he went back to his room to get a little rest and weigh what to do next. He prayed that God would show him what was needed. In that time of rest, God told him that a light switch had been wired backward, and He showed him precisely where it was.

When he went back and checked it out, he found exactly what the Lord had shown him and was able to correct the error. With God's help the generator was saved!

God is so gracious to help when we call upon Him!

"He shall call upon me, and I will answer him."

His Burden Is Light

The weights which we carry are sometimes too much.
We need Jesus' help and His tender touch.
With Him at our side our burdens are light.
He helps us to rest and not be uptight.

He doesn't want us to stand all alone
Or tremble in fear of what is unknown.
He gives us joy and makes worries cease.
He is our strength... in Him we have peace.

When we're o'erwhelmed He hears all our prayers.
We have this hope... that He really cares.
He is our friend through every trial.
He gives us strength to "go the next mile."

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and over burdened, and I will cause you to rest... I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest... relief, ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet... for your souls. For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good)... not harsh, hard, sharp or pressing, but comfortable, gracious and pleasant; and my burden is light and easy to be borne."

A New Course

Events in our lives will bring about change
And cause us to re-think our purpose long-range.
A single event can jar us awake
And cause us to see... or maybe to quake.

When God intercepts the path we are on
It may be the start of a bright new dawn.
We may not quite see what He has in mind,
For at first His whole plan may not be defined.

Waiting and trusting and letting Him lead
Is part of the growth that helps us succeed.
The change that He brings will re-set our course.
He gives us great wisdom... He is our Source.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

Come Home

The voice of the Lord is calling today
To all who have wandered and gone astray,
"Sinners, come home. It's time to release
All worldly folly so you may find peace."

You may have success on worldly planes...
Don't forfeit your soul for these kinds of gains.
The cost is too high to lose your reward...
Heavenly riches and peace with the Lord.

Jesus stands ready to welcome you home.
Return to the fold from where'er you roam.
He will forgive you, and Heav'n will rejoice
On the joyous occasion when you make this choice.

"I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance."
Luke 15:7 KJV

Worshipping God

I do not need a "title"to tell folks who I am,
For titles matter little and sometimes are a sham.
If all I do exalts our God, then I have reached my goal.
My purpose is to worship Him...my most important role.

Maybe I could play a song, or write a simple rhyme,
But what is in my heart to do is praise Him all the time.
Then my life may bring some light to others who pass by.
As I praise through song or pen, to Him they might draw nigh.

My praise shall be continuially of thee."
Psalm 71:6 KJV

Read The Instructions

We sometimes don't read the needed instructions,
Which causes us then to make wrong deductions.
When we buy a phone or maybe a tool,
The instructions become as a mini-home school.

If we read the "how-tos" we then will not err,
Avoiding some problems or maybe a snare.
This will be true with people as well.
The Bible will help us in this to excel.

The Word gives instructions for how we should live...
To love and be kind and freely forgive.
It's when we ignore instructions at will
That we come up short and do not have "skill".

"Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

Reflections

The Lord will give us beauty which increases over time
As we pursue His wisdom and desire high mounts to climb.
Walking in His wisdom will create a blessed story
Which reaches out to others and will bring God praise and glory.

Reflections of the past then become a lovely book
Which we can visit often and enjoy a second look.
The book will be "oasis" when we're tired or need a lift,
Authored by the hand of God and given as a gift.

Reflections of His handiwork are precious and unique,
Written in our lives, great encouragement to speak.
What the Lord has done with us cannot be robbed away
But stands for all eternity, it's story to replay.

"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation."
Psalm 68:19 KJV

Excuses And Denial

Excuses just are not good reasons
Not to fix what may be broke.
Denial won't admit the truth
And hides behind a well-planned cloak.

These two cousins hold us back
From joys and blessings God would give.
These are not good choices
For the way we're really meant to live.

God wants us to prosper...
To avoid these stumbling blocks...
So we always might be ready
If upon our door He knocks.

He has good things in store for us
(If we do not fall behind).
Excuses and denial block the truth
And, sadly, make us blind.

The Voice Of The Spirit

The Holy Spirit hovers near.
The whispers of His voice I hear.
How I long to know Him more
And with Him in my spirit soar.

The Spirit brings me calm and rest
Through every struggle, fear and test.
His guidance helps me stay on track
So I don't err or suffer lack.

Holy Spirit, fill my day
With Your gentle voice, I pray.
Help my mind and heart be still.
Lead me in the Father's will.

"When he, the spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me; for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you."

Order Is Golden

When living for God, there is order to life.
His wisdom and tenets will guard us from strife.
His Word gives us balance and helps us to stay
Away from those things which would cause us to stray.

Keep the doors closed to all conflict and sin.
These two intruders cause turmoil within,
Robbing our time and disrupting our peace.
Order demands that confusion must cease.

We must clean house if disorder rules.
Prayer and obedience are really good tools.
When we are diligent, God will respond
And give us reward... above and beyond.

"For God is not the author of confusion..."

Godly Leaders

We need Godly men who pray
To lead us, Lord, and truth obey,
Who will by Your wisdom lead
And by Your guidance will proceed...

Showing honor and respect,
Who Your Word will not neglect,
That our government will be
A framework for folks to be free.

Freedom has a serious price,
Paid for through men's sacrifice.
We need men who honor You,
Who'll lead as You would have them do.

A Winning Race

The real winner may not be
The one who can run fast,
For wisdom's wealth along the way
He quickly may run past.

He who sets a steady pace
May likely have more gain.
Though he never wins a race,
His steps won't be in vain.

For he with diligence will run
And gather riches on his way.
Growing in perception,
From his path he will not stray.

Knowing he has done his best
And knowing God will bring reward,
By running faithfully his race
A winning race he will have scored.

"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

People Who Inspire - Toni

Toni met Jesus as her personal Savior while living in Saudi Arabia. One night she was praying, and the Lord came and met her in that lonely, faraway place. He filled her with the fullness of His Spirit and His love. The most striking thing about her was her love for Jesus. She knew Him and knew His heart in a very tender way. She would spend long hours praying, waiting on Him, listening to Him, talking with Him, singing and dancing before Him. She had a heart of worship toward Him.

She had an intense fervor and gifting to tell others about Him, and she did it in the supermarket, the restaurant, the dentist's office, the auto mechanic's shop, in her neighborhood, over the telephone, at the gym where she worked out, at the butcher's, at the bakery... Jesus was her best friend! She prayed and ministered to hurting people with great compassion and sensitivity, always encouraging and lifting up others. Always she would challenge and spur you on to good works, causing you to stretch, and then helping you to laugh at yourself if the stretching time was clumsy or difficult. Her spirit of joy was unquenchable and irresistible and contagious. To be around her always was fun. This all sounds so happy and almost easy, but it is only part of her story...

She was utterly reliant on God's grace in her health and circumstance, because she suffered from Addison's disease. Some days she would really struggle with lack of energy and would call for prayer. She dealt graciously and fought valiantly with difficult family issues, caring for her grancdhildren while often not feeling well.

In the last year of her life her strength seemed to wane, and in May 2001 she was diagnosed as having pancreatic cancer. She believed God would heal her, and she proceeded to witness to every doctor and nurse she met, praying with a number of them, right up until the end. She never doubted and she complained little... As she slipped away to be with Jesus her ten-year-old grandson was in the next room singing a song called, "Like An Eagle".

Toni was a great woman of God. Her name was not famous, but her life was a lesson which needed to be recorded for others. Perhaps in memory the impact of her life will be even greater than when she was here as others follow in her footsteps.

"Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all."

Healing Salve

Unforgiveness builds a wall
And hinders good relationship.
Wounds and scars just will not heal
When folks are on an "ego-trip".

Forgiveness needs a humble heart
Which says, "I will not take offense,
Even though I do not see
A single shred of recompense."

Forgiveness is a healing salve
Which soothes the impact of offense,
Releasing new-found love inside
And bringing blessed consequence.

Joy springs forth from deep inside
As a fountain of great worth,
Refreshing "sore and tender spots"
And to healing giving birth.

"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
Ephesians 4:32 KJV

An Important Moment

Every morning when I get up there is a moment when I must choose my focus for the day... I can let my mind set off running with thoughts of everything I have to do that day, or I can enter into worship and focus on the goodness of God. In that defining moment when I make choice to spend time with the Lord, He will totally change the complexion of the day. I can enter in with peace and joy and confidence that I will indeed see the goodness of God in everything I do.

He gives me balance. He helps me to stay calm. He redeems my time for me and helps me to keep order in my day. He walks with me... I can feel His encouragement.

That first choice of the day... to spend time with Him... determines the rest of my day... and it is good.

"My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up."

True Beauty

True beauty comes from deep within
And shines through on one's face,
Radiating warmth and light,
And showing forth God's grace.

God's beauty in the heart of man
Reflects in how we look
And speaks a lovely message,
Even as a treasured book.

God's pure light comes forth with love
And joy and peace and glory,
Coupled with serenity,
Which speaks a lovely story.

Keeping Our Word

When commitments are broken, purpose is scattered,
And that which God planned gets wasted or shattered.
Pledges and promises carry much weight,
And when they're not honored confusion is great.

Families are broken and people get hurt.
Keeping one's word this pain might avert.
Wisdom and counsel oft heal one's perspective
And offer up help to find new directive.

Commitment and promise and keeping one's word
Should always be clear and not beccome "blurred".
Whenever we pledge to do a good thing,
Following through much blessing will bring.

"The righteous man walks in his integrity..."

Strength In Prayer

Prayer brings stability...
In our lives and in our land.
Prayer is the solid ground
On which we build and where we stand.

Those within the place of prayer
Are sheltered from surprise and storm,
Keeping balance, finding rest,
Having peace God gives as norm.

Prayer brings us inner strength...
Endurance to meet daily test.
Prayer meets our lack and need
In times when we are sorely pressed.

Times of prayer bring steadiness...
So much needed every day,
Girding us with power and might
To meet whatever comes our way.

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty (Whose power no foe can withstand).
Psalm 91:1 Amplified Bible

"Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything by prayer and petition (definite requests) with thanksgiving continue to make your wants known to God. And God's peace (be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace) which transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

Sharing With Others

We may have ease... and even excess...
So if we try, we can live on less.
Then we can share or give a good gift,
Which then will bring a much-needed lift.

God brings return when we choose to give.
And sharing is surely a blessed way to live.
When we reach out we bring hope and cheer,
Encouraging others whose lives may be drear.

Keeping things simple and living with less
Will help us have "extra"... some others to bless.
When we decide to share we will find
It is so joyous to give and be kind!

"Charge them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be liberal and generous-hearted, ready to share with others."

Today Is A Gift

Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is not yet.
Today is right before us with ideals to be met.
We can make the most of it or let it slip away,
But this day will not come again... it simply cannot stay.

Each day is a gift from God, and we can make it count
If we take a step or two His work for us to mount.
"Busyness" may not have worth but simply fill up time.
If we are in tune with God, every hour is prime.

We can change the world a bit... right here, right now, today,
By walking in God's plan for us and takiing time to pray.
We can live withut regret that some days were a waste
If we've kept our eyes on Him and His goals have embraced.

"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Instruments Of Peace

Using wisdom when we speak can save us lots of trouble.
Measured words can "stop a train" of discord which might double.
Thoughtfulness and gentleness will douse the flames of ire
And bring a gentle context before there is a "fire".

We can't predict what might be said to us in times of stress,
But we can bring a balance by kindness and finesse.
We must practice first to listen, and pause before we speak.
We may need to be silent, or turn the other cheek.

Problems maybe then can be averted or defused
If kindness and diplomacy are present and are used.
As we study how we can be instruments of peace
The Lord will help us to be calm and give us expertise.

"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath."
James 1:19 KJV

Wise Counsel

Be careful of counsel and who it comes from.
Some "counsel" can lead us to days that are glum.
It may sound okay be still not be right.
Wise counsel will lead us to days that are bright.

To be in a hurry can lead us astray.
Decisions we always should carefully weigh
And not push ahead until we are sure
The path we are on is not a detour.

If counsel we get aligns with God's Word,
Of peace and strong footing we are assured.
Prayer and counsel become as a treasure
When we have a challenge to carefully measure.

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly..."
Psalm 1:1 KJV

"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety."

Our God Is Greater

The enemy wants to silence the voice
Of those who love God and in Him rejoice.
When he rises up and tries to make trouble,
Our praises to God will rise and be double!

We can "out-talk" him through worship and prayer.
God's power and majesty we will declare.
He is a God of power and might.
No enemy can douse His great light.

God is our fortress... His truth will be known.
He is our refuge... we are not alone.
He is our strength... in Him we rejoice.
To Him we bring glory... we raise up our voice!

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty (Whose power no foe can withstand.)"
Psalm 91:1 Amplified Bible

Jealousy

Jealous folks just are not happy,
And sometimes they become quite "snappy".
They seem to want what is not theirs.
Their attitude sends up big flares.

They never seem to have enough.
Their envy covets others' stuff.
They are really not content.
Until they "win", they will lament.

Sometimes they will run roughshod
O'er others to gain accolade.
If they're to be satisfied
They must set selfishness aside.

This mindset needs some overhaul,
For in God's time He blesses all.
Rejoice with those who have the best!
Be glad for those whom God has blessed!

"You shall not covet your neighbor's house, your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's."
Exodus 20:17 Amplified Bible

"(Share others' joy), rejoicing with those who rejoice; and (share others' grief), weeping with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty (snobbish, high-minded, exclusive), but readily adjust yourself to (people, things) and give yourselves to humble tasks. Never overestimate yourself or be wise in your own conceits."

A Portrait Of God's Love

Rejoice in God's great artistry and lovely handiwork,
His excellence and beauty in array for all to see,
For mountains, plains and shining seas, for waterfalls and streams,
For trees which tower toward the heav'ns and flowers which are wee...

For light He gives us in the day and starshine through the night,
For the very air we breathe and wildflower's fragrant scent,
For dew upon the grass at dawn and wind to cool the heat of day,
For birds who warble, sing and call when day is almost spent.

Creation's endless beauty is a portrait of God's caring,
Reminder of His lovingkindness all throughout the land.
Pause and take a moment to reflect and sing God's praises.
Everything we see is created by His hand.

"O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"
Psalm 8:9 KJV

"I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High."

Nuggets Of Gold

We cannot buy wisdom, nor will it be sold.
It's nuggets of gold, which never grow old,
Are learned from experience and reading the Word.
Without it life's issues may sadly get blurred.

Young folks may wonder why old folks are "staid".
The old folks remember mistakes they have made.
They have learned well that wisdom and prayer
Save many a headache and many an error.

When we have wisdom we won't go astray.
Wisdom will guard us and keep us each day.
Wisdom is gold which never grows old...
A standard to cherish, to live by and hold.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."
Proverbs 9:10-11 KJV

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

Holy Spirit, Come

We need a blessing from God's hand
To bring refreshing in our land.
Many lives are caught in "drought",
Suffering from fear and doubt.

Holy Spirit, come and rest
On those who need to be refreshed.
Let Your healing waters flow,
New life and blessing to bestow.

Let Your floodgates open up.
Come and fill this empty cup,
Washing o'er our land today.
"Holy Spirit, come", we pray.

"So too the (Holy) Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance."

God's Faithfulness

God's mercies are new ev'ry morn,
Our lives with His joy to adorn.
Each day is a gift with good news,
His blessings on which we should muse.

No matter the bad news we hear,
The news of our God gives us cheer.
We can rise up and hold our heads high
As we hear His voice and to Him draw nigh.

As we're in worship, the world "fades away",
And we are aware of His goodness each day.
He is our focus and joy and delight.
Because of His faithfulness, our days are bright.

"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness."

Hands Of Healing

Anyone who ever knew my mom would probably say that she was a very giving person. She always had compassion for those who were hurting or had need.

In one of her jobs she had a co-worker named Louise who became ill. Louise could no longer work because she had developed bone cancer. Mom learned that Louise was in the hospital in a lot of pain, so she went to see her. Louise's pain was such that she couldn't stand even the weight of a sheet over her body.

I do not know what Mom shared with her, but while she was there she prayed for Louise.

We later learned that Louise only lived another three days after Mom visited her, but she was totally pain-free from the time Mom prayed for her.

Mom had a giving heart and helped many...

"She stretcheth out her hand to the poor: yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy."

The Brighter Side

If your life is not exciting
And some problems you are fighting,
Let your eyes be opened wide
And look upon the brighter side.

Thank the Lord for what you have.
Receive His joy as healing salve.
Praise Him for His precious grace
Which "carries" us from place to place.

He will change your present view
And give perspective which is new.
If in Him you will abide
You'll always see the brighter side.

"For the joy of the Lord is your strength."

Good Fruit

Righteousness will yield good fruit
Because it has a healthy root.
All it's growth may not be seen
But over time remains pristine.

It's stance for truth is very strong.
Over-ruling what is wrong.
Making choice for what is good
And making impact... as it should.

It becomes a shining light.
By example it is bright,
Blazing trails through the dark,
Leaving an impressive "mark".

"The root of the righteous yieldeth fruit."

Angels Watching Over

When I was five years old my parents bought a farm, and I began to learn about living in the country.

The fences around the perimeter of the property (91 acres) were old and needed to be replaced. Dad bought posts and wire, and then built a large sled to carry the posts to the far edge of the property. We did not have a tractor, so he loaded the posts and wire onto the sled and hitched the sled up to our team of horses. My brother Dale and I went with him and rode on the horses. Since I was so little Dad tucked my legs under the straps of the harness, and I held onto the "hames" at the top of the horse's collar.

The back part of our land had not been cleared... and brush and rocks covered the area, so where we were going was not smooth ground. We started out just fine. Dad stood on the sled and dropped the posts along the old fence line, and it seemed like this plan was going to work well. But we could not have anticipated what was going to happen next. Something startled the horses and they took off running.

My brother was thrown off of his horse and landed on his back in some brush. I wasn't thrown off, but my head was beating up and down on a metal plate between the hames on the horse's collar. My dad was on the sled and was desperately trying to get the team back under control when the sled hit a rock, breaking a hole in it, and dad's leg went down through the hole and was dragging underneath. Even so, he somehow managed to bring the team to a stop.

As I look back at this event, I don't have any doubt that God was watching over the three of us. None of us had even a broken bone. Surely His angels were all around us that day. God was so faithful to watch over us...

"He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honour him."

Lingering In His Presence

Always watching, always waiting, always longing for the Lord... my soul longs to hear His voice, to feel His presence and His touch.

His presence is as an oasis where I may come and drink... and find rest... where I can find refreshing and new energy to meet the tasks before me. Lingering with Him brings a pattern and direction to my day. Listening for His voice brings awareness of what is going on around me. Resting in Him is restorative.

I truly desire to know Him, and as I seek Him faithfully a whole new level of understanding opens up. He changes me... and I am blessed. I rejoice deep within.

"As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God..."

A Very Bright Light

When my mother was nearing 101 years of age it became necessary for her to be in nursing home care because she could no longer walk on her own. Her vision had become quite dim, so she didn't converse with others there at the nursing home because she couldn't see clearly enough to know who she was talking to.

At the nursing home she shared a room with a lovely Christian lady named Juanita, who was there recovering from an open-heart surgery. Juanita was 78 years old.

One day, when I visited at the nursing home, Juanita shared with me how my mother had totally transformed her life. Juanita's statement was: "I saw how patient your mom was as the nurses brought her in and out in the wheelchair, and she never complained. My own attitudes were really bad, and watching how she is at her age (in her condition) totally transformed my life."

I don't know if Juanita had expressed her feelings to my mom or not. But what a tribute to the light of Jesus in my mom. The witness of her life had brought healing to another even in those last few days of her very long life.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Matthew 5:16 KJV

Praise Rising Up

Praise rising up in the depth of my being
O'ershadows the woes which my eyes are seeing.
Praise changes me, and brings me great peace.
My heart is encouraged... in Him is release.

He is my shelter when storms tend to blow.
He makes my heart with joy to o'erflow.
As my perspective is caught up in praise
I can "see" better... He transforms my days.

"Rejoice in the Lord, O you (uncompromisingly) righteous (you upright in right standing with God): for praise is becoming and appropriate for those who are upright (in heart).
Psalm 33:1 Amplified Bible

Wisdom And Caution

Wisdom would urge us to weigh ev'ry plan
And each of our choices to thoroughly scan.
Excitement and fun times would lure us to come,
But if they're not right, they'll leave us quite "numb".

Decisions made quickly without thought or prayer
Have "price tags" of which we are not aware.
We must be sure of each step we take
Lest we get entangled and make a mistake.

Maybe we feel that we are "left out"
But should not join in if we have some doubt.
Caution is friendly... our lives it will guard...
And shows us the choices which we should discard.

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
Psalm 119:105 KJV

A Path To The Extraordinary

As the wheels of "dailiness" turn
For variety we oft yearn...
For something bright or new to do
To brighten up our "tired" view.

When routine becomes "a drag"
And energy begins to lag,
Deep inside may be a test
Which really needs to be addressed.

Diligence and patience learned
Are precious prizes to be earned.
That routine of which we're wary
May lead to the exteraordinary.

Be creative... don't complain,
For learning well will bring great gain.
Perseverance has great worth
And to new vistas will give birth.

"But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."
James 1:4 KJV

A Crystal Goblet

Our lives are like crystal goblets. Over time a goblet may show wear or can become cloudy-looking or scratched from age.

But if the goblet is filled with the waters of Jesus, it begins to change. The scratches and wear and tear which may have appeared there are washed away. The etchings of use or film on the goblet begin to fade. And by continual washing the goblet, which was dull and dingy, becomes clear and polished-looking. The pure waters of Jesus cause it to sparkle and reflect light, and it's waters become refreshing for others. It is transparent and lovely.

Sometimes a goblet may become chipped or broken, but Jesus knows how to place every chip back together. In His gentle hands this goblet, too, will again be lovely. The facets of His love will be etched into the glass in a unique way to heal it's scars and make it beautiful.

He desires that all should be filled with His living waters and be made new.

"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."
John 4:14 KJV

A Great Love Story

A rose is perhaps the most loved flower...

It rises forth out of a homely-looking wood stalk. The stalk is sometimes gnarled and may have been "wounded" or broken at some time. There may have been times of drought and seasons of severe cold... and yet each year it bursts forth in glory and presents us with all the beauty and fragrance which can be found anywhere in a flower.

My favorite rose is a rich, velvety red and grows on long, sturdy stems. When it blooms it reminds me of all the majesty and power of our Lord Jesus. The rich velvet of the petals reminds me of His royalty. When I cut a bloom and bring it inside, it's fragrance fills my house. This is precious, because I want Jesus' fragrance to always fill the rooms of my home.

The rose has beautiful leaves, but it also has large thorns, and I am reminded of the thorns Christ wore in my behalf. The rose represents Jesus, but the thorns bring remembrance of the suffering He went through for me... and you...

This is the greatest love story of all time... think on the rose...

"... Whatsoever things are lovely, think on these things."
Philippians 4:8 KJV

Summer's Song

Cooling streams and waterbrooks
With rippling waters sing their song...
Music from the heart of God
Which makes one want to sing along.

Breezes in the willow trees
Whisper lilting melodies...
A lovely touch of summer's ease
As nature sets her heart to please.

Meadows filled with butterflies
And birdsong drifting through the air
Are blessings to remind us all
That summer has a song to share.

Join her laughter, sing her song.
Let her beauty lift your heart.
Let her chorus fill your days
And merrily her joy impart.

Encouragement

When you see a soul weighed dwn,
Walking with a tired step,
A great big smile to show you care
Might add to them some joy or pep.

Encouragement can lift a load
For someone walking all alone.
You might lift a person up
With seeds of happiness you've sown.

You may be the only spot
Of light or sunshine in their day
By your kind example
Or the cheery words you say.

People struggle deep within
And maybe never tell a soul.
To be a bright encourager
Is a very needed role.

"Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit)."

Discerning The News

When we hear the evening news
The many facts we should peruse.
Prayer Warriors, be alert!
Some issues media will "skirt".

What is bad can't be called good.
Issues must be understood.
Issues which have "haziness"
Confuse and sponsor "craziness".

Prayer Warriors, watch and pray
That truth be known every day.
Of urgent issues be aware.
When we pray, God hears our prayer.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
II Chronicles 7:14 KJV

The Love Of God

God gave us His Son... His great love to show.
Love is the greatest of all things we know.
Christ brought example for how we should love...
He was the "measure" God sent from above.

Love is a lesson... our thinking to change.
With practice, our lives it will rearrange.
That which we thought had value or worth
Becomes as mere dust when love has it's birth.

Love is a gift, by which we are blessed,
Where God's lovingkindness and grace are expressed.
All things are better when love is in place.
Love is God's beauty... which we should embrace.

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God."
I John 4:7 KJV

A Beautiful Heart

God will do His handiwork
In the fibers of the heart.
The colors He will weave there
Will become a precious work of art.

His intricate detail
Will be very special and unique.
Of His gentle loving care
His careful artistry will speak.

When we choose to place our hearts
In the hands of our dear Lord,
He responds and gives to us
A rich and glorious reward.

On the beauty which He gives
We cannot ever put a measure.
In His weaving and design
Is rich and unexpected treasure.

"My heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God."

Grandparents' Fun

Grandkids are a special gift.
They give us "oldsters" quite a lift!
Oh, what joy to see them smile
And sit with them a little while.

As they prosper and they grow
They add to us a special glow.
We even get to spoil them some
With special treats they like... yum-yum!

Grandkids fill a special place.
Their little lives we will embrace.
Being "old" is not so bad...
Our grandkids make our hearts feel glad!

"Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord..."

No Fear

It is so important to be able to discern what is happening around us...

One evening I was leading worship in a meeting, and I was aware of a man across the room in the front row who was seeking to be noticed... he had a disruptive spirit. When worship was over and our speaker began to speak, this man was trying to get the speaker's attention and interject his own comments. The speaker did not allow him to interrupt, and he was restless.

I started praying (within myself) to block what he was trying to do. When the speaker was through and called our prayer teams to come forward to pray for those with needs, this man got up and came across the room toward me. He was angrily clawing at the air with his hand and came right toward my face. He was maybe only three feet from me when I motioned with my hand and said to him very quietly, "You're out of order." He stopped in his tracks. He couldn't move another inch toward me. And then he left.

This all happened very fast, but I felt no fear because the Lord had given me the words to say. It was the power of God working which stopped him. My friend was sitting by me and saw what happened. She said she was really scared that he would hurt me.

I learned a very valuable lesson in this. When I was praying silently against the evil in this man I made no visible signs that I was praying. But HE KNEW exactly who was blocking him and showed intense anger toward me. I realized that when my spirit is uncomfortable with the spirit in someone around me, probably the wrong spirit in the other person will not be comfortable around ME.

In this case, the Lord intercepted the situation and disabled the man's efforts to retaliate against me. He guided and protected me, and the evil person had to leave.

"For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say."

Love Thy Neighbor

"Love thy neighbor as thyself"
Just may not be so easy.
I have had some neighbors
Who have made me kinda' "queasy".

Being kind to some of these
Will take some work and study,
For they don't plan for me to be
A close friend or a "buddy".

But there might be a time
When I can show to them good will.
It just may be that in their lives
Much kindness has been nil.

Show me, Lord, how I can be
The ray of light that I should be
And bring a touch of Sonshine
To that one who isn't free.

"And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself."
Luke 10:27 KJV

Reaching Up

If it seems like you've reached bottom
And you're weary from the fight...
If you know the Lord
In Him you'll find new strength and might.

He does not desert us in our times
When life is out of joint.
He is there beside us,
Helping us to find a turning point.

When all we do comes to a halt
And we don't know which way to turn,
He gives us new perspective
And guides us through what we must learn.

If we lean upon the Lord,
To help us reach a "mountain top",
We can start a higher climb...
In Him we will not fail or drop.

Yes, we may be weary,
But He gives us hope and blessed peace.
No matter what the "climb" before us,
Our strength, in Him, will have increase.

"He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with Him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him."
Psalm 91:15 Amplified Bible

Very Near

The older I get, the more it is clear,
Our God isn't distant but so very near.
He knows our ways and our heart's desire
And answers our prayers before we inquire.

We're not alone... He's right by our side,
Our uncertain footsteps to steady and guide.
His presence is real... and very unique,
Not just on Sunday, but all through the week.

The more we are bathed in the wealth of His Word
The closer He seems and the more we are stirred.
We are not lacking... we're never alone,
For the gift of His presence He has made known.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."

A Servant's Heart

If only giv'n one job to do
And it doesn't have much worth,
Give to it your very best,
For out of it may come a "birth".

Something deep within yourself,
When nurtured, then would start to grow.
Your diligence in serving
Much faithfulness woud show.

Inward growth prepares us
For a larger task at hand.
A servant needs this steadiness
To meet a new demand.

Learning from "the bottom up"
Will give correct perspective.
Your service and your attitudes
Will be much more effective.

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
Colossians 3:17 KJV

Moccasins

We often will not understand the "fit" of others' moccasins
Unless we really care enough to try to walk a block in them.

The moccasins may be well-worn, and wearing them our feet would bruise.
Probably we'd hurry back and welcome wearing our own shoes.

We cannot point and say we know how rough a path some folks may walk.
We only prove we have blind spots in how we reason and we talk.

Only Jesus knows their pain, and He will help them bear their weight.
But if we think we understand, with judgment we should hesitate.

"Be honest in your judgment and do not decide at a glance - superficially and by appearances; but judge fairly and righteously."
John 7:24 Amplified bible

A Good Listener

As a crystal shines and glistens
Is the soul who truly listens,
Hearing what is in your heart,
Though words have lack of where to start.

One who listens tends to care
About those things you wish to share.
By showing kindness and respect
A loving spirit they reflect.

A soul who listens talks not much
But ferrets out the truth and such,
Giving answer carefully
And sharing wisdom prayerfully.

"Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not (merely) his own interests, but also each for the interests of others."
Philippians 2:4 Amplified Bible
