The Wonder Of Your Love

Oh, the wonder of Your love,
The wonder of Your grace.....
That You would care for such as me,
That You would give me place.....

When I could only offer You
A sin-filled, broken soul.
And yet You cared so much for me
You touched and made me whole.

You had no need for such as me
But did not pass me by.
You lifted me from pain and woe,
You heard my heart's deep cry.

You gave me hope and wiped my tears.
In You I have deep peace.
Through Your grace and wondrous love
From my sin I have release.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Little Sheep

We have a loving Shepherd.
He cares so for His sheep.
He watches over all His flock,
Their welfare to safe-keep.

He teaches and He nurtures them,
Gently meeting every need.
His watchful eye is on each one
To pray and intercede.

Little lambs are tender
And are not so very strong.
Without the Shepherd's loving touch
They falter and go wrong.

Little sheep, it's wise to stay
Within the Shepherd's fold,
For He will guard you all your days,
And even when you're old.

"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake."
Psalm 23:1-3 KJV

A Lovely Gift

Today the Lord has blessed my day.
He sent two butterflies my way,
Quickly catching my attention,
Introducing sweet dimension.

Butterflies bring sheer delight,
Fluttering in gentlest flight.
Lightly moving through the air
They just don't seem to have a care.

Only God could paint a wing
And quietly such beauty bring.....
Delicate in every way,
With brilliant color on display.

His handiwork is everywhere
His awesome beauty to declare.
Even in a butterfly.....
So small and sweet and shy.

Riches Untold

Do you want to be wealthy or want to be rich?
Do you want things to be without hitch, without glitch?
Do you want to reach for the stars or the moon
And don't want to wait..... you want it all soon?

True wealth and riches are patiently learned.
Success in this world by hard work is earned.
But seeking the Lord for wisdom and knowledge
Will bring understanding..... is like spiritual college.

To be rich in Him is the very best goal.
This will bring honor and wealth to your soul.
So reach up to heaven for riches untold.
Have faith to reach for HIS silver and gol.d

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Eagle's Wings

I want to fly with the wings of an eagle.
And I want to catch the wind of the Spirit with my wings.....
To soar and to be lifted up.

For the wind of the Spirit will take me to high places
And I will be able to see clearly.

I want to ride in the wind of the Spirit.....
To feel the current beneath my wings, carrying me.....
And I will reside there.

For there I will ride above the storms of life.....
Not hindered..... unable to be touched by that which would pull me down.....
Powerful and strong.

The eagle discerns the Wind..... and is free!

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
II Corinthians 3:17 KJV

Trust In The Lord

Are you fearful and shaky, nervous and fretful,
Or tired and weary and sometimes forgetful?
Maybe you're rushed, and push comes to shove.
You're just plain worn out, with no rest thereof.....

Stop where you are and turn to the Lord.
He will bring peace, and you'll be restored.
For moments you give Him will be multiplied
Back into your life..... with blessings beside.

All things are easier when left in His hand.
He is your hope when you don't understand.
He'll bear your load and will make it His own.
In Him you'll have answers and not be alone.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

A New Day

This is a new day..... unlike any other.
It does not look back or mimic another.
It gives opportunity for a fresh start
And offers us time, in which we have part.

How will we use it to please our dear Lord?
Where would He send us..... or what point us toward?
This precious day offers very wide choice.
When Jesus directs us, then we can rejoice!

It's just "one more day" till we find His design,
And then it explodes into "brilliance and shine".
The day is unique, with His signature on it,
And becomes like a lyric and beautiful sonnet.

May all of our days be "signed" by His hand
And have mighty impact as in Him we stand.
May each day be filled and have a rich story,
Accomplish His purpose and bring Him much glory.

"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
Psalm 118:24 KJV

In God We Trust

In God we trust, in Him believe,
Into our lives His tenets weave.
We have chosen His Word to read
To find the wisdom that we need.

Often what we think is right
May seem okay... but isn't quite.
So we can search within the Word
And let His wisdom undergird.

When we're not sure which way to go,
It's best to wait until we know.
Always He will keep us steady,
And He will move when He is ready.

He may not move just as we think,
But from His voice we will not shrink.
For always He will know what's best.
In that we have His blessed rest.

In God we trust.....

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.'"

Busy Little Squirrel

A Children's Poem

Little squirrel, hurry, hurry.
Winter's coming! Scurry, scurry!
Gather food so you won't worry
When you see the snow's first flurry!

Little squirrel, busy, busy,
Worked so hard that he got dizzy,
Worked himself into a tizzy!
Gee whiz! This little squirrel was busy!

When the winter is cold and breezy,
He won't worry and feel queasy.
He won't be hungry or be sneezy
But will rest and take it easy!

"It is unusually wise to store up food for winter.
Even ants that are not strong do so."
Proverbs 30:24-25 (Paraphrased)

Perseverance

Perseverance wins it's race.

Perseverance
Breaks through barriers,
Jumps over hurdles,
Reaches the top of the mountain.

Perseverance
Keeps it's eye on the goal,
Doesn't give up,
Finishes it's job.

Perseverance
Looks neither to the left nor to the right,
Doesn't look back,
Accomplishes much.

Perseverance wins!

Paint Project

One summer I really was in the mood to repaint the rooms of my house. And so I set about painting, one room at a time, until I had the whole house done. This project spanned over a period of about three months.

The last rooom to be completed was the dining room. It was getting late in the evening, but since I was so near being all finished, I just continued painting. I didn't want to get up to even one more day of it. I wanted to get done!

It was close to 11:00 p.m., and, with just one more small section to paint, my paint pan ran dry. So I took it down from the ladder, set it on the floor and poured more paint into it. Then, as I was moving my ladder over a bit, the next few moments became chaotic and hilarious.

Our dog Scruffy was in the basement with the youngsters when all of a sudden he heard "Daddy" come in the front door. (Daddy was his favorite person). Daddy was just coming home from work. I didn't hear him come in, but the dog did! Scruffy came flying up the stairs, through the kitchen, THROUGH THE PAINT PAN, across the dining room and living room, and took a flying leap toward Daddy, expecting to get caught in mid-air and cuddled. I started yelling, "He's full of paint! He's full of paint!" Daddy had on a navy blue suit and the paint was WHITE!

He caught the dog in mid-air and just held him there, but the dog, in his excitement, was wiggling and wagging and wasn't easy to hang onto. So I called the youngsters upstairs to rescue the situation. They took him down in the laundry tray and gave him a bath. He was a mess!

Luckily Daddy didn't get painted, but the living room carpet did! So now I had a row of white footprints to clean up. I cleaned the carpet and then finished painting. Now it was really late, but I knew when I washed out the paint roller this time I wouldn't have to do it again. The job was done!

The job came to a more exciting climax than I expected! It seems when you have pets that they wind up in the middle of everything..... even the paint pan!

The Work Of My Hands

When I've finished all my labors
And I think my work is done,
Have I really made a difference?
Perhaps my work has just begun.....

Could it be that I'm not seeing
What is right before my eyes.....
Your true meaning for my life.....
And simply do not realize?

Lord, help me see as You would see
And do what You would have me do,
So I will know I've found Your purpose
When each precious day is through.

"Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us....."

Autumn

When summer starts to yawn and
yields her tired labors.....

Autumn steps in with enthusiasm of color and
paints her bright note far and wide.

Surely it seems that God "pulls out all the stops"
in brilliant display of color!

A lovely space in time..... with rich bounty of harvest,
with brisk, invigorating air,
with flurries of activities in preparation
for the new season.

A time of exaltation and thanksgiving
as we celebrate the beauty of creation and
the fullness of God's provision for us.

And then the leaves begin to fall
as all nature seeks a time of rest.

And as winter knocks in her own time,
autumn shuts her door quietly and slips away.

But in memory, our hearts have been warmed
against the coldness of winter
by a very loving God!

"The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord."

Something To Ponder

What example am I in my daily walk.....
How does my life speak in the way that I talk.....
Who may be watching my actions each day.....
"Actions speak louder than words," so they say.....

Several years ago we had some neighbors who had three small children. As we began to get to know this family, we realized that they were very, very poor.

Late one summer, as the school year was approaching, I realized that the children were not going to have any new clothes for school. The family simply didn't have enough money to buy them any. So I decided to make dresses for the two girls and a shirt for the boy..... to surprise them. Now this wasn't any big thing for me to do, since I sewed all the time and had fabric on hand. For me, this was a fun project.

Well, I finished the clothes, gave them to the children, and never thought any more about it.

But several years later someone in my family, who wasn't a Christian, made comment about how nice she thought it was that I had done this for these children. Her statement jarred me to the very core of my being. I did not realize that this person had been watching me.

We never know who may be watching us and how much effect we have on others by the way we live. We can, unknowingly, lead others to change their pattern of living just by the example we set. In this we have awesome responsibility and unending opportunity.... to serve others.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:16 NKJ

My Computer And Me

Sometimes I can't type,
Sometimes I can't spell.
And my words look quite funny
When my fingers rebel!

Then sometimes my bifocals
Play tricks on me.
They make things look funny
When I'm trying to see.

So words I've ne'er seen
Appear on my screen...
Hilarious sentences
With typos between.

I do not think
That I'm getting old.
"These things just happen",
Is what I've been told.

It seems that my mind
And my fingers don't "click".
I find I can't hurry...
I'm not quite as quick.

Don't want to slow down
'Cuz I'm having fun.
But I sure need to "proof"
Everything I have done!

People Who Inspire

Beverly

I first met Beverly in a church choir, and I soon learned that she was a music teacher in our school system at grade school level. She had a special gifting to teach children and took a special interest in encouraging children to be better than they thought they could be. She was an encourager.

As it happened, she taught music at the grade school where my nephew, Tim, attended. Tim had an interest in learning to play the piano, and he asked Beverly if she would teach him. She was willing, but Tim had no money for the lessons. So they worked out an arrangement where Tim would go and mow her lawn, and then in return she would give him piano lessons. She really did inspire him, because he pursued this avidly and practiced diligently, becoming quite a good pianist and later enjoying playing classics as an adult.

A few years later Beverly and her family moved to another church where she and her husband later became the childrens' pastors. She had wonderful children's choirs there, and her husband was known to all the little children as "Papa John". Their two daughters taught Sunday School there also.

In her latter years Beverly was known for her prayer journals. She had ill health and suffered quite a lot of pain, but whenever she got a prayer request, she would write it in her journal. Then she would keep track of it and continue to pray until the answer came, writing down the answers. She filled the pages of a number of journals..... how faithful she was!

Beverly loved the Lord with all her heart. Only in heaven will it be known how many children's lives were encouraged and changed because of her love and devotion and caring. She was a wonderful friend and very beautiful in the Lord. I feel very privileged that I knew her.

My Strength

Lord.....
You are my footing..... my firm foundation.

You are that safe place to stand..... when everything is shifting.....

Where I cannot be intimidated by the enemy,
Where I will not lose my footing,
Where I may find courage,
Where I will not fail,
but may have confidence.

You are my strength.

Autumn Smiles

As summer starts to fade away,
Autumn bursts forth in brilliant dress
To bring to close another season
And usher in the winter's rest.

She adds her own sweet offering
To summer's easy-going days
By painting everything she sees
In fiery colors set ablaze.

But her winds and brisk, cool air
Bring a message of their own.
She will cause us to awake
Out of the summer's ease we've known.

For winter follows close behind.
She, too, will bring her very best.
All the land she will embrace
And bring to all much-needed rest.

Seasons come and seasons go,
But autumn has a secret story.
As she smiles with brilliant color,
She shows to us the Father's glory!

"The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord."

Almost Late

A Children's Poem

I can't find my coat.....
And where are my shoes?
All of my things
I just seem to lose!

If I don't hurry,
I'll be late to school.
And being on time
Is a very good rule!

I didn't put
My belongings away
Because I was "busy"
And wanted to play.

I've misplaced my things,
So now I'm in trouble.
And if I don't hurry
My trouble will double!

I guess I should learn
Not to just lay things down,
'Cause when I can't find them,
It sure makes me frown!

I must remember
To put things away.
This would be better.....
And prevent this delay!

Listening To The Heart

Listening to another's heart
Is a very sensitive art.
For all that dwells so deep within
Desires expression to begin.

We cannot learn to know another
With many words which just will "smother".
The heart is heard in quietness...
In times of listening... without stress.

It's possible to miss "the gold"
Which in quietness would unfold.
A tender heart it's gold will hide,
It's treasure resting deep inside.

For truly listening is a skill
Gained in learning to be "still".
When a heart's deep words are lost
We sadly pay too high a cost.

"Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another."

Blessed Peace

How blessed is a home
Filled with peace undisturbed,
Where all is at rest
And all unperturbed.

For where strife comes in
Are contention and hate.
Relationships suffer
And tension is great.

In peace there is healing,
In peace there is rest.
And all who make peace
Will be very much blessed.

The Lord does not want us
To worry and fret.
When we lean on Him
All our needs will be met.

If we learn to love
And will "sit at His feet",
We will partake
Of His peace..... so very sweet.

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

A Prayerful Call

Our nation needs to bow it's head
And bend upon it's prideful knee
To humbly show it's gratitude
For freedom and prosperity.

For God has kept His hand upon us,
Watching over us by night,
Honoring the cries of those
Who prayerfully stand for what is right.

Today we call upon His name,
Repenting of our spot and sin,
Asking Him to heal our nation,
Restoring righteousness within.

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

A Strong Nation

We must be a people strong,
Armed with prayer against all wrong,
Vigilant to stand our ground
And keep our guard up all around.

Powers of darkness would destroy
And evil practice would employ,
But people of God on bended knee
Can keep our nation safe and free.

Prayer warriors side by side
Will overcome the evil tide.
We have a God of power and might,
And we will stand for what is right!

Fall Colors

Autumn wonder on display.....
It's color splashed in full array.....

The hillsides and the valleys wear
God's vibrant colors painted there.

Flaming red and brilliant gold.....
Shades of orange so bright and bold.....

When God gives color in richest hue
He blesses me and blesses you.

Thank You, Lord, for lovely days.
We humbly bring all laud and praise.

He Leadeth Me

When I place my hand in the hand of the Lord, I am not afraid. I don't need to be.

Wherever He leads, I will be safe. He is my covering.

He is my strength. Therefore my weakness doesn't matter.

He is able when I sometimes am not, and He does not make error.

He knows me through and through, so I may trust His direction even though I sometimes don't understand it.

He will enable me, by the leading of His hand, to achieve higher levels of accomplishment than I might otherwise know.

He is faithful, and He is always there.

A Giving Heart

When our children were in grade school and still small, our family attended a large church which had very wonderful worship in their services. We didn't have a "song book", nor did we use an overhead projector. The people would just learn the songs as they came each week and sing them from memory. The worship was beautiful as the people sang and worshipped from their hearts and raised their hands in praise to the Almighty God.

After one of the evening services I was standing by the piano, and a young man from India came to me to inquire if there was a source or a song book where he could get some of the songs we sang. I told him that our church didn't have such a book, but that there was a small chorus book with some of the songs which was available in our church book store. He thanked me and left.

Now sometimes after the services we would give our children change to go to the book store and buy something. That was true this particular evening. Our son came back with a refrigerator magnet about Jesus..... he collected them. But our daughter didn't have anything when she came back. I said to her, "Why didn't you buy something?"

This was her answer: "A man came into the store to buy a song book. It cost $1.25, and all he had was a dollar, so I gave him my quarter."

This so touched my heart..... and I'm sure it touched the man's heart too, because our daughter was only seven or eight years old at the time.

Being Light

Lord, let the witness of my life
Be pure and holy..... always true.
Every day I want to walk
In a way that pleases You.

I may be the only light
In another's weary road.
Help me to be sensitive
And maybe lighten someone's load.

Show me, Lord, if I make error,
Finer-tuning all my ways,
So my light will brighter shine
And bring You glory all my days.

I want to be an open vessel,
Always useful in Your sight.
What a joy to live for You.....
Serving You is my delight!

Early Lessons

A little boy went off to school
To learn about the Golden Rule.
The book he read was "Pilgrim's Progress".
Bible truths he could express.

The Ten Commandments then were taught
And students learned them as they ought.
Godly standards were the measure.
And classrooms then were full of "treasure".

The freedoms which those children had
Have been denied the current grad...
The culture that we have today
Has made bad choice and lost it's way.

America, you've come too far
Away from who you really are.
Godly men who fled oppression
Founded you through intercession.

Faith in God will heal our nation
And restore our firm foundation.
If in God we trust and wait,
Prayer and faith will keep us great.

"Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He Who shall tread down our enemies."

A Man Of Worth

I met a fine man
Who was full of real gold.
He was not rich,
But his worth was untold.

For hidden within
His quiet facade
Were a beautiful heart
And the wisdom of God.

He reached out to others
By lending a hand.
He sought not a "name"
And made no demand.

In all that he did
He served with a smile.
He quietly worked
And would go the "nth" mile.

His heart was sincere
And gentle and true,
Loving and kind
And honest clear through.

Some may not notice
And fail to behold,
But his life is written
In silver and gold.

One Sunday Morning

A True Story

The singing was nice in the church that day,
As we readied to hear what the preacher would say.
But before he would speak we would have celebration
As a family came forth for a baby dedication.

While the preacher was praying, their child bumped the flowers,
Drenching the floor with un-needed "showers".
The water ran into a vent in the floor
With a loud dripping sound you couldn't ignore.

An elder came in with a pail and a mop
To clean up the mess so the dripping would stop.
He mopped up the water... cleaned up every drop,
Each time making noise when he squeezed out the mop.

The wife of the elder sat by me in choir,
Trying to act "reverent", as manners require.
Though harder and harder she tried not to giggle,
She was shaking so hard she made the pew wiggle.

I was biting my tongue to keep a straight face,
When just then the elder... Without any grace
Backed into the pail, and the water all went
Back onto the floor, dripping into the vent.

The elder's wife "lost it" and now the pew shook.
I stared down in my lap, afraid even to look.
I was laughing so hard, it made my sides ache,
Wondering what the next clean-up would take.

Then once again he started to mop,
As the water in the vent went, "plop, plop, plop".
He finally finished and went out with the pail.
Now the preacher could preach and order could prevail.

The preacher kept speaking through all of the fuss.
He tried to stay focused, which was a real "plus".
When the service was over, much to my dismay,
I didn't remember the message that day.

The Eyes Of A Child

How blessed is a child
Whose unclouded vision
Sees all of the world
With startling precision.

His words are so simple,
His view is still clear.
Observations he makes
Are pure and sincere.

Lord, help me to see
Through the eyes of a little one,
Whose special perspectives
Are priceless and fun.

A Humble Heart

Pride is selfish - and very blind.
It puts self first and is not kind.
Ego blurs the way it sees.
It will not bend or try to please.

It always thinks it's way is best.
To be around it is a test!
It's haughtiness will bring one low,
Will problems and contentions sow.

A man of humble spirit hears
And words of wisdom he reveres.
He has learned to quietly wait
And not let pride his way dictate.

He will pray and seek the Lord.
From this he will receive reward.
Much wisdom does his heart embrace.....
A humble heart brings honor and grace.

"...Be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time....."

Patience

Patience is learned in the trying times.
It cannot be learned from a book.
But as we walk forward one step at a time,
In hindsight we'll know what it took.

As we're forbearing in our circumstance
And ask God to show us the way,
He may not remove that which stretches us so
But give us endurance to stay.

We never will learn much if all things go well,
But facing a challenge will cause us to grow.
Patience will come as we daily trust God.
He then will help us and His grace bestow.

"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us."
Hebrews 12:1 KJV

The Master Weaver

God is the Master Weaver.....

When He creates a design He chooses only the finest threads and combines the most brilliant of colors.

His designs have great beauty and are intricate and very finely woven. His attention to detail is very precise as He blends the threads carefully to make rich harmony of color.

Each design is uniquely different and has great value and worth..... because the Master has skillfully and lovingly fashioned it with His own tender, loving hands.

In His hands, life becomes a beautiful tapestry.

"Your hands have made me and fashioned me."
Psalm 119:73 NKJ

Polly And Molly

A Children's Rhyme

Polly was jolly
And had a nice collie.
She liked to play games
With a cute friend named Molly.

They played with Jerry
Who always was merry.
He had a fish
And a yellow canary.

Then there was Gary,
Whose sister was Carrie.
These two had cousins
Named Harry and Mary.

Polly and Molly
Became quite amused.
And with all of these names
They were getting confused.

So they would pretend
To re-name each new friend.
This maybe would help
The confusion to end.

And just when they thought
That things might get better,
Then they met Holly
And her Irish setter.

Polly and Molly
Had fun all the time.
They and their friends
All lived in a rhyme!

Grace In Action

Our wondrous God is so faithful, and He uses many avenues to speak into our lives.

I had been involved in leading a weekly meeting at my church, but there were factors in this situation which were not easy to deal with, and I was struggling. I was sharing this with a dear friend, and she said to me, "Why don't you pray and ask the Lord if His grace is in this situation for you. If it isn't then you should leave, because you will only get hurt."

I knew immediately that this was God's direction, so that night I did indeed pray that prayer. But, as often is the case, He didn't asnwer me right then, nor did He answer me in a way which I expected.

Several weeks later a lady came into our meeting, carrying some peonies in a jar and gave me the flowers. Because my mind was full just then before the meeting, I didn't recall her comments to me. And after the meeting I couldn't recall even who brought them to me. I was frustrated, but I took them home and enjoyed them.

A couple of months later I was sitting in church, and the lady next to me started talking about the peonies. Then I finally knew who they had come from. She said she brought them to me because there were FIVE large blooms on ONE stem, and it reminded her of the grace of God. She only brought the one stem, but it was a whole bouquet!

This, then, was God's answer to my prayer. I knew without a doubt that His grace was there for me in this situation. The large size of the blooms reminded me of how big our God is, and the beauty and fragrance of the fluffy, light pink blooms reminded me of the sweetness and gentleness of His caring.

How beautiful is the love of God shown to us by His grace.

"But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ."
Ephesians 4:7 KJV

My Constant Prayer

Help me, Lord, not to limit Your creative plan for my life.....
Because I have found a niche where I am comfortable and don't want to move from it.
Because people and locale are more important to me than moving down an unknown path of Your leading.
Because Your plan would include training... or schooling... or hard work.

Help me, Lord, to be fully in tune with Your plans.....
So that I don't miss opportunities You provide.
So that I don't shortchange Your overall plan for my life.
So that I fully use all the giftings which You have given me.
So that my life will bless You and bring glory to Your name.

Forgive me, Lord.....
For opportunities I have missed.
For time which has been wasted or lost because I've not heard Your voice.

Thank You, Lord.....
For the gift of each day and for all Your provision for my life.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.

A New Day

August 25, 2006

God is cleaning house..... I "see" it in my spirit. It is as though He has a big push broom, and He is making a clean sweep.

That which has been hidden, or "debris" which has collected in the corners, will be uncovered and removed. That which has stood in the way (refusing to yield), that which is unholy, that which is not useful..... anything that is in the way of God's purpose and move of the Spirit will be cleansed and removed. For He is preparing a new day and a new work.

In families, in communities, in the work place.... He will expose and make order. He will correct and make right many situations which have been unresolved. He will remove obstacles of long standing and correct imbalances. The bright light of His cleansing will seek out the works of darkness, and darkness will fall away before the move of His Spirit.

I hear Him saying, "The season of waiting has been long, but now I will cause My people to prosper and to begin to fulfill that to which I have called them."

The ship which has been in drydock will sail again. The machinery which has been on sabbatical will function once again. The foot soldiers of the Lord will march with new verve and gain new territory

Hallelujah! This time of cleansing is in preparation for a breaking loose of the power of God! Hallelujah! Praise Him! All glory be unto His Holy Name!

Whisper A Prayer

When you are broken
And words will not come,
Your heart aches within you
And feels somewhat nunmb.....

When your heart is heavy
With grief and despair,
And the weight that you carry
Seems too much to bear.....

Leave all your pain
At the foot of the cross.
Jesus will comfort you there
In your loss.

He'll touch your heart
And wipe every tear.
He'll wrap you in love
And stay very near.

His presence is real.....
Just whisper a prayer.
He'll not let you go
For Jesus is there.

"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort: who comforteth us in all our tribulation....."
II Corinthians 1:3-4 KJV

The Wise Man And The Fool

A fool doesn't listen.
He goes his own way.
You can't teach him much.
His attention will stray.

He gets an idea
And "runs" without thought.
He doesn't much weigh
The results as he ought.

He hurries on...
And is sure he is right,
Until something fails
And he's in a bad plight.

A wise man will watch
The mistakes others make.
And he will think through
All the steps he will take.

He will seek counsel
When he does not know.
He will carefully choose
Which way he should go.

He will measure each step
And take time to pray
About the decisions
He makes every day.

The wise man will prosper,
The foolish will stumble.
One cannot learn
Unless he stays humble.

"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise."
Proverbs 12:15 NKJ

All Things Are Possible

Our God is a God of great creativity.
He is not limited by my inability.
He will cause me to have new capability.
If I am willing to have stretchability.

If I am weak, He will give durability,.
If I am shaky, He'll give me stability.
He then will cause me to have versatility
And give me His joy and peace and tranquility!

There is no limit to what He can do
Through ordinary folk like me and like you!

"For with God nothing shall be impossible."
Luke 1:37 KJV

A Servant's Loving Heart

A servant quietly moves in love,
Not believing himself above
The needs of some poor, hurting soul.
Meeting a need is a servant's goal.

A servant's eye is quick to see
Where he might serve or helpful be.
He does His work with loving hand,
For he just seems to understand.

Because he sees through Jesus' eyes,
He will quickly recognize
The blessing he may be to one
And the good that can be done.

So with joy he goes about,
Serving others and reaching out.
He doesn't boast or seek acclaim,
But quietly serves in Jesus' Name.

"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others."

'Poor Me'

Self-pity sings it's woeful song
Because "the world has done it wrong!"
It mopes and weeps and carries on.
"Poor me" it sings the whole day long.

It's hard to have this thing around.
It spoils your joy and pulls you down.
It will not let you help it out.
It only wants to sit and pout!

It will not look beyond it's nose.
But wails and moans and tantrums throws.
And so it's sorrow grows and grows
As it centers on it's woes.

This crummy partner isn't pretty...
He who calls himself with pride "self-pity".
Don't let him in to roam about.
Shut the door and keep him out!

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Words Of Blessing

Choose to speak joy.....
And joy will rub off on you.

Choose to speak kindness.....
And kindness wll return to you.

Choose to bless those you don't like.....
And love will grow within you.

Choose to speak love.....
And your relationships will find healing.

Choose to speak peace.....
And peace will grow and abound within you.

Choose to speak wisdom.....
And the Lord will give you increase of understanding.

People Who Inspire

NANCY

Nancy had a bright and positive spirit about her. As I grew to know her and learned a little about her background, I was very blessed by who she was.

She was a young mother with four children and, at one point in her life, found herself in a devastating situation..... one day her husband just disappeared and he did not return. She did not have any idea as to what might have happened to him. In spite of her grief and fear and difficulty in surviving and in comforting her children, she did not waver in her faith. The Lord was her strength.

It was a full year before she finally learned that her husband was still alive and that he had just moved away. When I asked her about how she got through that time, she said, "I just kept asking the Lord, 'What can I learn from this situation?' "

I have never forgotten her answer that day. Her life and her steadiness in the face of confusion were a real lesson on being positive and focusing on the Lord no matter what the circumstance. For surely the Lord can turn even the most difficult situation into something positive for us.

Nancy inspired me, and many times, over the years, I have been encouraged by the lesson of her life.

"Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honour him."
Psalm 91:14-15 KJV

In The Shadow Of The Cross

When your feet are tired and weary
And each step is full of pain,
And all the efforts that you've made
Just seem to be in vain.....

Bring your burdens to the cross
And simply leave them there.
For Jesus will not give you
Any weight you cannot bear.

In the shadow of the cross
Is sweet refreshing for your soul.
The newness of the life He gives
Will heal and make you whole.

He will give you new beginning
To redeem your pain and loss.
Enter into peace and rest
In the shadow of the cross.

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

The Hem Of His Garment

I saw a woman, hurting so much.
She really needed a healing touch.
I could sense her tears and feel her pain.
Revealed in her face were weariness and strain.

She sat and she read in her Bible that day,
Which certainly is the very best way
To find strength and courage for every task.
For God hears our prayers and all that we ask.

He is the One Who is able to heal
All that our bodies may suffer and feel.
Even though doctors will do all they can,
Her answer is faith in God's healing plan.

"For she said to herself, 'If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.' But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, 'Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.' And the woman was made well from that hour."

Bringing A Blessing

Oftentimes throughout the day
As I work or when I pray,
God will bring someone to mind.
This is not by chance, I find.

I may need to make a call
Or say a prayer, however small.
For God will show me how to "bless"
If I am willing to say "yes".

Someone might just have a need
And God will have me intercede.
Or maybe I should "bless" that one.....
Blessing others can be fun!

These are only little things,
But great results this practice brings.
In spreading joy through words I pray,
Someone will be blessed each day.

"Let each of you look out not only for his own interests,
but also for the interests of others."
Philippians 2:4 NKJ

He Touches A Heart

Lord, when You touch a heart, You touch it deeply. Your touch is so gentle.....

You sort through the ruins and pieces of what is there and make order. And you remove what is not necessary to be there.

You see the bruises and tenderly touch those places..... to impart love back into the heart where it has been ripped away. You apply healing balm to soothe and heal.

You take note of the empty places and begin to fill them by the power and warmth of Your Spirit.

You watch over the heart and tend it carefully, not looking away, for each heart is a creation of Your own hands.

Hearts turned toward You will change and become beautiful and whole, strong and confident, vibrant and full of health.

Your touch is beautiful.....

"The Lord is gracious and full of compassion."

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

On Duty

Scruffy, our Mini-Schnauzer/part mutt, wasn't very big, but he was a very alert watchdog.

At one point, after we had him awhile, someone broke into our house. This invader kicked the back door in so hard that it pulled the door frame right out of the wall. He then proceeded to ransack two of our bedrooms and robbed some things from us. I can well imagine that Scruffy bit him more than once because he was very quick and very protective.

Somehow, in the "fray", the robber injured Scruffy's back. After that, every time we picked him up he would yip, so we took him to the vet. The vet x-rayed his back and discovered that one of the vertebrae was crushed. He said it was so bad that he didn't know how Scruffy could even walk. Surgery would have been $1,400.00, and we didn't have it. We took him home and prayed over him, and soon he was able to run freely again.

One day after that, as I opened our front door, Scruffy looked out and saw a cat across the street. One of his favorite things to do was chasing cates. (He never did catch one). Before I could get hold of him he bolted out the door, across the porch and took a flying leap out and over all six steps, landing on the cement walkway below. When I saw him leap I just closed my eyes, expecting that would be the end of his being able to walk. But the "leap" didn't seem to slow him down, for when I opened my eyes he was tearing across the street, barking at the cat. This proved to me that God had definitely healed his injury and strengthened his back.

The only after-effect he seemed to have was, as he got older, he tended to wake up a little stiff in the mornings. So we put his doggy sweater on him at night to keep him warm, and then gave him a baby aspirin each morning (vet's instructions). Soon he would be running all over the house and out in the yard.

A Song Of Love

A song of love is written
As hearts commune and share.....
A melody that finds it's notes
Because two people care.

Simple joys and friendship warm
Are woven as a thread
Of harmony and lovely chords
E'en when words are left unsaid.

As time goes on the song of love
Becomes a precious strain
As hearts that listen hear the tune
And sing it's sweet refrain.

The song will always bring new joy
And swell in beauty rare
Because it's written in the hearts
Of two who really care.

I Trust In You

Thank you, Lord, that I can trust You..... that in You my life is safe.

Thank You for the peace that comes from knowing You have only my best interest at heart.

Though the things I sometimes go through don't seem to make sense or are a struggle for me,
knowing I can lean on You gives me strength and hope and courage.

I can sense Your hand working in every circumstance, and I am in awe because You care so much!

What a wonderful, awesome God You are!

Rainbow Of Friendship

When a rainbow touches hearts
in precious celebration.....
Myriad colors of friendship sweet
bring blessed communication.

Friendship has its promise fair
when one heart knows another
And understands the beauty there
is not like any other.

When a person wants to share,
a friend just seems to know.
They have a very special bridge.....
between them is a rainbow.

The beauty of the rainbow
as it shimmers there in place,
Brings joy and priceless moments.....
treasures to embrace.

The Hands Of Jesus

Have you ever thought about the hands of Jesus.....
those beautiful hands that set themselves always to do the work of the Father?

Healing hands
That touched the blind,
Healed the sick,
Made the lame to walk again,
Made the lepers whole.

Loving hands
That always reached out to others.

Tender, gentle, protective hands
That held a little child.

Humble hands
That washed the disciples' feet.

Praying hands
That interceded before the Father.

The love of the Father was always expressed
through the hands of Jesus.

"And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kindgom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people."

The Signature Of God

His Personal Touch..... Written all around us.....

A ray of sunlight..... breaking through the clouds.....

Wild flowers on a hillside..... where no one planted them.....

A rainbow in the sky..... appearing between sun and rain.....

The brilliance of a sunrise..... or.....

The rich colors of a sunset.....
(Man has no paintbrush to equal this.....)

The melodic sound of a little bird singing.....
(How does so much sound come out of a tiny, feathered friend?)

The brilliant color in the fragile, paper-thin wing of a butterfly.....

The fragrance of a flower..... and the velvety feel of its petals.....

A dormant tree suddenly transformed into
A sea of fluffy blossoms and fragrance in spring.....

A fuzzy bumble bee visiting a flower for nectar.....
Then flying away to make honey.....

Seeds..... tiny seeds which grow into "plants" so big that
We can sit in the shade under them on a hot day.....

The wind..... and the power of His presence.....

"How excellent is Your name in all the earth....."

A Lunchtime Laugh

As I sat in my car with my taco and drink,
Quietly eating and trying to think,
A crow saw food on a plate on the ground
And quickly flew down to eat what he found.

When he landed he sat on the edge of the plate,
Flipping the food in his face - what a state!
Refried beans were between his eyes
Running down on his face - what a funny surprise!

He then tried to stuff all the beans in his bill.
They oozed out at the sides against his will.
Over and over he tried in his greed
To grab ALL the beans - he was hungry indeed!

He could not fly off with the spoil he had found,
And he did not expect with the beans to be "crowned"!
He stood there and squawked and was really a sight,
But he left the beans there when he finally took flight.

My Burden Is Light

When all seems lost and sorrow enters,
And in the heart your sadness centers,
Know that God will hear your cry.
He sees your heart and hears your sigh.

When you are weary in your race
And one more day can't seem to face,
He will give the strength you need
To reach your goal and to succeed.

When confusion seems to reign
And you find yourself in pain,
He will lead and guide you through.
He will show you what to do.

If you've failed and made offense...
Afraid to face the consequence,
He will give a second chance
And help you through your circumstance.

In Jesus' Name are might and power
To meet your need in every hour.
Call upon His wondrous name.
Then give Him glory and acclaim!

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

My Friend, Grace

I have a special friend named Grace.
My life is wrapped in her embrace.
In every circumstance I feel
That her companionship is real.

She is there when I don't know
Which way to turn or where to go.
She quickly offers me a hand
When I am weak or I can't stand.

Grace extends my limitation,
Filling me with consolation.
She is faithful to abide,
Whate'er my need or what betide.

What a gentle, faithful friend...
More than I can comprehend.
My daily load I lightly bear
Knowing Grace is always there.

"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye always having all sufficiency in all good things, may abound to every good work."

An Unfriendly Critter

Deceit is subtle, but deadly.
It comes hidden in a smile or a gift or a flattery
and may look attractive.

It is a lie or an imitation.
It masquerades as something different than what it is.

It is never transparent and is a trickery
upon innocent lives.

It is a trap.
It is hateful and selfish and will try to present
untruth as truth.

It has no good intent.

A little bit is always too much!

"The thoughts of the righteous are right. but the counsels of the wicked are deceitful."
Proverts 12:5 NKJ

"He who hates, disguises it with his lips, and lays up deceit within himself."

Real Peace

The peace of the Lord is beyond comprehension
And touches our lives in every dimension.
As we trust in Him and seek Him in prayer
He will surround us and take every care.

The place of His peace is a place set apart,
Where we walk with Him and He speaks to our heart.
Nothing could ever compare to His "rest".
Nothing on earth could make us more blessed!

As we depend on the Lord every day
He covers our path in every way.
His peace is "steady" and carries us through
With calm and sereneness in all that we do.

"Be careful for nothing: but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be mde known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jeuss."
Philippians 4:6-7 KJV

A Child's Touch

A little child came and touched my heart
When I was weary and falling apart.

He brought me a lamb so I wouldn't be sad,
With a smile and a hug to make my heart glad.

And so my heart healed. I no longer felt "teary".
He lifted me up.... I no longer was weary.

How pure and sincere was the love of this child...
Not harsh as the world, but gentle and mild.

The compassion in him was beyond his young years.
God used him to heal me and stop all my tears.

"Love never fails."

Greatful

Precious Jesus.....

I am so thinkful for every new day
And want to use each one the very best way.
You are the Maker and Giver of all.
I'm grateful for Your gifts..... for big and for small.

As Your love and Your joy You graciously share,
Of Your precious presence I'm always aware.
I'm never alone, for You're at my side.
In sweet fellowswhip with You I'll abide.

Troubles may come and troubles may go,
And yet in the midst of them I always know
That You will be faithful to carry me through.
I need not be anxious..... because I know You.

You're always there for me.
Thank You, Jesus.

"Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee, thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name."

Competitors

This is a story of canine vs. feline. Scruffy and Kitty Cat were always trying to eat each other's food, and this didn't work. The cat food made Scruffy sick, and his dog food made Kitty sick.

One evening I put the cat food down for Kitty Cat, and as she was starting to eat it Scruffy started toward her dish. But he stopped halfway there and looked up at me because he knew I was watching. I sternly warned him, "Don't you DARE!"

But a second later, as I glanced away at something, he ran over there, bumped her out of the way with his shoulder and started eating her food. What a "pill" he could be sometimes!

I had been folding up a paper grocery bag as I watched this. In an effort to stop Scruffy, I stepped over there with the intent to swat him with the folded bag. I knew the bag wouldn't hurt him, but I thought it might back him off a little. My plan backfired. As I tried to swat him the bag popped open, making a loud, "cracking" sound. Poor Kitty Cat was so startled by the sound, she ran the whole length of the house and hid behind the television cabinet near the front door. Kitty wasn't having a good evening. First the dog just bumped her away from her dish, then he ate her food, and then I scared her out of her wits with the paper bag.

I went in the living room to try to comfort and pet her a little bit, but she was too scared to come out from behind the cabinet. So I opened the front door and she quickly darted outside. She just wanted out!

My attempt to help her just didn't work. So after that I put her food dish on top of our kitchen step stool where the dog couldn't get it. I often thought..... these two pets were like having a couple of extra kids!!! They definitely livened things up around our house.

The Lesson Of The Violet

Seasons of Rest

I saw my little violet plant,
So full of lovely bloom.....
But it's little pot it would outgrow,
It's roots would need more room.

So when it found a larger "home"
Where it's roots could spread and grow,
It needed time to gain new strength
Before again it's bloom would show.

You couldn't see it doing much.....
It wasn't getting "oohs" and "aahs",
But hidden growth was happening
During this time of rest and pause.

Until the pot it's roots could fill,
It needed nurture, love and care,
And when it's timing was complete
Again it's blossom would be there.

Lord,
Thank You for giving seasons of rest..... those quiet times for finding nurture and new strength in You. For when I am rested and strengthened in You, then I can blossom again..... In Jesus' Name.

"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him....."

Anchored In The Storm

Are you anchored in the Lord?
Have you read His Word today?
Are you strengthened in your walk
Because you took some time to pray?

He has promised in His Word
That we'll be strong and we'll be bold
If we lean upon His name.
He will make our anchor hold!

We can then be strong in Him
Though storms may rage and ill winds blow.
We can stand and not be moved
Though difficulty's face may show.

His reassurance through the storm
Will be to us a healing balm.
As we acknowledge He is able
We will have His peace and calm.

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof."
Psalm 46:1-3 KJV

"But as they sailed, he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm."
Luke 8:23-24 KJV

The Little Lost Lamb

A little lamb went out to play,
And soon he couldn't find the way
Back to where the other sheep stay.
He found himself quite far astray.

So he decided to explore
What he had not seen heretofore.
As he searched and looked around,
Pain and sorrow are what he found.

Other sheep were cruel and mean,
And he had no shepherd on which to lean.
They mocked and laughed at his small bleat
And gave him things he should not eat.

They only thought of selfish gain,
And now the lamb had fear and pain.
He longed to find his very own flock,
For being lost was quite a shock.

The Shepherd knew how little lambs stray
And how they sometimes lose their way.
He went to find His little sheep
Because His love for him was deep.

He brought him back into the fold
And held him close 'cause he was cold.
It isn't good to wander away,
But with the Shepherd to always stay.

"If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray."

A Bright Outlook

Are you "contagious" and make others glad?
Do you have qualities some wish they had?
Lifestyle is "catching" and speaks loud and clear.
It issues a message of what you hold dear.

The way that you live is a path that you choose.
Your outlook on life can be one of good news!
If you have Jesus and give time to prayer,
Even your enemies will be aware.

For you will have strength and an outlook that's bright.
Your life will draw others to that which is right.
You'll be "infectious" when you do your best,
And those all around you will truly be blessed.

A Higher Plane

Help me, Lord, to be more in tune with You.....
To recognize and filter out the daily patterns of my own thinking
Which prevent me from having Your perspective throughout my day.

Help me to move past what is not of You.....
And move into the rhythm You would give me for each day,
Lest I miss opportunity You would want to give me.

Help me, Lord, to rest when You say to rest,
For "busyness" has no worth if it is not in Your timing.

You are able to balance my day.
And as I follow You I will want for no good thing.
My day will be exceeding rich.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Our Loving God

In my times of deepest sorrow
He was there to comfort me.
He bore my grief and gave me hope.
He heard my prayers and heard my plea.

Our God is mindful of our needs,
And he is faithful to provide.
When we are down and face despair,
He is there right by our side.

No challenge is too big for Him...
Unforeseen or great or small.
He is greater than the need
And always hears our prayerful call.

Always in the Lord is respite,
Always in the Lord is peace.
Always in the Lord are answers
And the place of sweet release.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

A Blessed Home

How blessed is the home
Which has learned not to "rush",
But has chosen a schedule
Which won't stress or "crush".

Families today
Are in a real bind,
With too much to do
And too much on their mind.

By too much involvement
Or extra time spent
On outside activities,
Families are rent.

Blessed is the family
That spends time together,
For they will come through
Tough times and "bad weather".

They will have learned
To stay close to each other
And appreciate sister,
Mom, Dad and brother.

How blessed is the home
Where "family" is found,
Where good times and joy
And laughter abound.

"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches."

Many Chipmunks

This is a story about a little dog named Cricket. Cricket was a small black-and-tan chihuahua and she became part of our family when I was in high school.

At that time my parents owned some farm property, and whenever Dad would get out his work boots to go to the farm, Cricket would run and wait by the back door. She knew where he was going and she wanted to go along. At the farm she could run all over without being on a leash.

The first time there she discovered some chipmunks, or perhaps they discovered her. I'm not sure which way it happened. The chipmunks were playing on a pile of boards which were left over from the little house my dad built. Cricket started chasing the chipmunks. Around and around the board pile she ran. The chipmunks weren't afraid, because when she got near them they would just run down through the middle of the pile and pop up on the other end, chattering loudly at her. This happened repeatedly. It almost seemed that the chipmunks were playing games with her, and she did not tire of chasing them.

In one instance she wasn't right by the board pile, and one of the chipmunks ran from the board pile across a short distance to go under the house. She saw him and immediately started toward him. The chipmunk went under the house, but she was going too fast and couldn't stop. Full speed ahead, she slammed into the house with her head..... thud! It's a wonder she didn't break her neck. But pretty soon the chipmunks were chattering at her again, and again she was chasing after them. We all heaved a big sigh of relief that she had not injured herself and seemed to be okay.

This same day one of the chipmunks, sitting a distance away on the ground, started chattering at her. She started in that direction. But between her and the chipmunk were some shallow pools of water. Each one measured approximately ten feet across and perhaps six inches deep. These pools were almost totally covered in thick green algae. Cricket apparently did not see the water. I could see what was going to happen, and I yelled at her, but she didn't stop. In her determination to catch the chipmunk she ran right into the water and across to the other side. What a sight she was! She was black when she went in and totally green when she came out! In the meantime, the chipmunk ran up an apple tree and sat on a limb chattering at her. I couldn't help laughing. She just looked a mess! It almost seemed like the chipmunk was laughing too. Even so, after cleaning her up, she continued in her chase. She wouldn't quit, nor would the chipmunks. She never did catch one ot the chipmunks because they were too quick for her.

I often thought that this dog should have lived on a farm. She had so much more fun there than home in the city!

A Bright Smile

Choose to be positive,
Choose to be bright.
A smile is much better
Than being uptight.

Don't let the negative
Stuff pull you down,
'Cause then you will grumble
And may wear a frown.

And then when you grumble
And groan and complain...
If you do THAT
It will cause still more "pain"!

Choose to "look up"
And try to be merry.
When you are happy
Laughter will tarry.

And soon things won't seem
Quite as hard as they were.
When you're having fun
The "gripes" won't occur!

Under His Wings

How many times the Lord has provided safety for me while driving! Every morning I ask Him to protect me and my family on the road, and He has been so-o-o faithful in this.

I was on the freeway and traffic was heavier than usual. I was following a transport truck. Suddenly the truck moved left into the next lane, revealing to me that there was a large metal folding table laying upside down across my lane. Someone had lost it off his truck load. I was too close to it to stop and couldn't go around it. I swerved slightly but ran over it anyway.

I had a multitude of thoughts as to what the sharp metal edges and folded legs of the table might have done to my tires. Immediately I prayed that God would cause my tires to hold up until I got home..... approximately another seven miles. And the tires did hold!

That evening I noticed that one of the tires had gone flat. When I looked at it I discovered a hole in the sidewall. I had actually had a blow out but the tire didn't lose air pressure till I got home! And then when I went to buy a new tire, the tire company replaced the damaged tire for free!

What a beautiful answer to prayer! What a faithful and awesome God we have!

"Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice."

"Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honour him."

Forgiveness

Forgiveness in a gentle heart
Will offset wounds and words that "smart".
When we forgive and choose to pray,
Bitterness will fall away.

For unforgiveness hurts the one
Who will not let offense be "done".
It sometimes hides behind facade
But blocks relationship to God.

If it stays, it makes one ill.
In all life's corners it will spill.
The one who carries it will bog down.
It is a very heavy "crown".

Don't let unforgiveness start
And then reside within the heart.
Forgiving others is the key.
When we forgive, then we are free.

"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."

A Special Quilt

Always I have been fascinated by patchwork quilts.....

You cannot just "glance" at a patchwork quilt. There is much more there to see. And so I always find myself lingering and looking at all the different colors and designs of fabrics which have been stitched together. When my grandmother made quilts, she used even the smallest pieces of fabric and stitched them somewhere into the quilt top, and all the pieces were important to the beauty of the quilt.

The Body of Christ is like that. It is as though the Lord has made a quilt..... of myriad colors and patterns and prints and carefully joined them together.....

The Lord takes His beautiful, variegated "fabrics" and places them together in the quilt which is His Body. In His quilt are warmth and strength, healing and comfort, joy and peace, laughter and courage, fellowship and "family". Usually quilts have a binding, and the binding around this quilt is love.

As we become "patches" in His beautifully planned quilt, we are joined together, one with another. And we become part of His rich design.

This is His Body.....
This is His Handiwork.....

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God."

A Pat On The Back

A "pat on the back" is a really good thing,
To lift up the heart and encouragement bring.
This will speak volumes... it means that you care.
It lets people know that you are aware.

It may make the difference to help one be strong,
And if they are weary, to cheer them along.
Maybe a good word will help someone "win",
Or, if they are nervous, will help them "begin".

Encouraging words which are happy and bright
Will just make life better and bring smiles of delight!
A "pat on the back" is a wonderful touch.
In today's world it is needed so much.

"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works."

Young Again

The joy of a child as he runs in the breze
Is wondrous to watch..... he runs with such ease.
His heart isn't heavy or burdened with fear.
His footsteps are light..... and he's full of such cheer!

He hasn't learned to worry and fret.
The cares of the world have not weighed him down yet.
His giggles and laughter and bright, open smile
Remind me again how much life is worthwhile.

I want to capture these moments with rhyme
And happily go read them from time to time,
For thoughts of this child make me feel young again.
It reminds me of days which were "way back when".

In tribute to my grandson, who makes me feel young at heart!

The Fragrance Of Christ

To live in the presence of Jesus is as being on the inside of a rosebud. And He is the Tender of the garden..... the Master Gardener. The rosebud, in His care, is filled with potential and promise, for He nurtures it and watches over every stage of it's growth.

As it begins to swell in size and the petals start to open even slightly, it's fragrance begins to come forth. And as it continues to open up, all that He has formed becomes evident in the eye of the beholder..... it's velvety petals, it's lovely color and it's sweet fragrance. It's beauty surpasses all other flowers.

Even so, our lives, when placed in His hands, will blossom fully and have a unique fragrance to bless all those around us. The beauty will come forth as we are nurtured in Him. Our stems will be strong and our foliage will be rich and full.

For surely as the rose is graced by the touch of His hand, so will our lives be graced by His presence.

"For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing."

People Who Inspire

RUTH

Ruth was a woman who had a bubbly personality and who loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a woman of prayer, and she believed in His healing power.

When she was eighty-four she went into the hospital for evaluation of a liver condition. Her husband Milt came to see her in the evening, and as he came into the room he heard the woman in the bed next to Ruth crying. (I never learned the name of the other lady, but will call her Mary for purposes of this story). Milt poked his head in through the curtains around Mary's bed to see what was the matter.....

Mary, who was seventy-five years old, had been brought into the hospital with severe pain from arthritis in both hands and both feet. Her hands were very crippled, and her feet were twisted out of shape. She could no longer walk and had been in a wheelchair for several years. She was crying from the intensity of the pain. Milt asked her if she would let his wife Ruth pray for her because Ruth believed in the healing power of God. She said, "yes." So Ruth got up from out of her own hospital bed and went over and laid hands on Mary and prayed for healing.

Around 4:00 a.m., the next morning, Ruth heard Mary call out quietly, "Ruth, Ruth." Then again she called, "Ruth, get up. Come here." So Ruth got up and went to see what Mary wanted. God had totally healed both of Mary's hands and both of her feet. She was excited and wanted to show Ruth.

Mary said to Ruth, "Just wait. I'm going to get up and take a shower", which she did with no help. Then she got herself dressed, and she was able to even button her own clothes, which she could not do before. Now all this was going on without the nurses down the hall even realizing these two women were up.

Mary was rejoicing and she wanted to tell somebody. So she and Ruth went down the long hallway to the nurses' station. When they got there one of the nurses asked, "What can I do for you?"

Mary answered, "Nothing! Ruth here prayed for me and I don't need anything!" She was healed and she was free of pain. Her hands and feet were normal again.

When Mary came into the hospital she was in a wheelchair. When she went home she was able to walk out of the hospital.....

Symphony Of Praise

Wtih voices ringing, worship singing,
Chorus flowing, praises growing,
Happy folks their praises bring
To their wondrous God and King!

Adoration sweetly dwells,
Sound of worship richly swells.
Hearts are tuned unto the Lord
In sacrifice of praise outpoured.

Heaven's harmonies are found
Where loving hearts are joined in sound.
God's dear children will agree,
The song become a symphony!

Happy Feet

Obedient feet are happy feet
And walk wherever Jesus leads.
How many fruitless steps this saves
As we accomplish daily deeds.

He will keep our feet from snares
As He directs our daily walk,
And cause our hearts to dance with joy
If we do not His leading balk.

We sometimes may not understand
Just what His heavenly purpose is,
But wisdom tells us every time
It should not be our way, but His.

The beauty of a Godly walk
Far surpasses our weak plans,
As His care and covering
O'er our lives so gently spans.

He will show us all His ways
As we bow before His throne.
Our wonderful and awesome God
Covers those who are His own.

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."

Threads Of Loveliness

The Lord weaves threads of His loveliness into each day to bring added dimension to every aspect of our experience..... so that as we move through each day we may see His beauty, feel His touch and perceive His presence all around us. His beauty is woven throughout all of His creation. How great are His benefits to His children.

As we diligently seek Him, His beauty becomes more and more visible to us, and increasingly we will comprehend the richness of His love and caring..... whereby we are very rich.

"One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple."

Mailman's Best Friend

(For the first part of this story see May 30, 2006 Archive)

Pixie missed her mailman friend. She had followed him around for such a long time, and she really loved being with him. But now that he no longer worked in the area where she lived, she had to settle for just remembering "the good times". So she retired to just being at home with the family that owned her.

During the years that she was the mailman's dog, she was in a musical comedy, "Finian's Rainbow", at the Civic Theater. Our family was invited to come and see the production. The girl who owned Pixie was in the chorus on stage, and as long as the chorus was singing, Pixie just sat there with the "crowd" and waited. She was delightful. But during intermission, Pixie got away from the girl, picked up the mailman's scent and followed it to where we were in the theater. She came barreling down the aisle, found our row, and took a flying leap, running across the laps of everyone between the aisle and where we were. She "mobbed" the mailman with affection when she saw him. Luckily, the people who were sitting there when she came through were not angry with her but thought she was cute.

The people who owned Pixie owned a photo studio in the downtown area, and later on in years, as Pixie grew older, they took her to work with them at the studio. One day she got out the door and picked up the scent of the mailman, who was now working in that area. She followed his scent many blocks through the downtown area, and through the heavy traffic that was there, until she came to the post office. When the mailman came in from his route at the end of the day, there she was, sitting up next to his mail case waiting for him. They had a grand and very happy reunion!!! Somehow this made up for the time that they had not been together. But then he took her back to the studio.

Later on the mailman's family was able to borrow a leather mail pouch from the post office, take it to the photo studio and get professional photos of Pixie sitting in the pouch. These were a gift for the mailman in his retirement, so now the mailman had beautiful photos of his little four-legged friend.

Both he and Pixie seemed happiest when they were together!!!

Humility

Humility is soft within
And brings a quiet confidence.
It won't be found in boastful hearts
But gently lies in non-defense.

It doesn't search for accolades
Or feed on others' constant praise,
But rather meets another's needs
And never will it's banner raise.

It acts and serves as Jesus did
And won't promote itself above
Any other human being,
But sincerely serves in love.

"Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for 'God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.' Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."

Too Much Stuff

Omigosh, what's all this "stuff"?
We seem to have more than "enough"!
When we can't find some thing we sputter.....
We probably have too much clutter!

"Stuff" just seems to multiply.
And then we start to wonder why
We keep things "for a rainy day"
Which we should give or throw away!

So I'm cleaning corners out,
Making order roundabout.
Doing this may help me find
Lost items - and some peace of mind!

Stuff just seems to sneak right up.
And soon we have a pileup!
I'm going to change my ways this year,
(And hope that "stuff" won't reappear!)

A Heart Of Compassion

When a little child falls
And you lend him a hand,
Then he can get up
And be able to stand.

He may be shook up
And feel "ruffled" a bit,
But if you just hold him
He'll soon be quite "fit".

By being there for him
And showing him grace,
You've given him courage
His problem to face.

The child has been strengthened
Because someone cared.
And he will feel good
From the love you have shared.

"But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him."
Luke 10:33-34 KJV

Too Much In A Rush

Every day people get in a huff
Over jobs and traffic and things and stuff!
Now what good purpose can there be
For being upset to this degree?

When people get too much in a hurry,
They start to fuss and fret and worry.
Surely there is a better way
To handle things and get through the day!

God has a plan to save us from this
So important things we will not miss.
Society says we must rush to and fro.
What's happened to "rest"? Where did it go?

When we turn to God, HE sorts this all out
And teaches us truly what life is about.
Then we can slow down and rest in His peace
And be blessed when the "hurry and scurry" will cease.

"Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kindgom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you."
Luke 12: 27:31 KJV

God's Nation

We have a Godly heritage.
We stand on firm foundation.
God has covered us with His hand
And mightily blessed this nation.

We should not change from who we are
And turn from Godly wisdom
To please a few with "new" ideas
Who would create schism.

America, we stand in prayer.
In God we trust, in Him abide.
Those of us who really care
Stand against this evil tide!

We need God our course to chart,
To lead our steps and guide our way.
Why should we from Him depart?
We will stand and we will pray!

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance."
Psalm 33:12 KJV

Expressions Of The Heart

The words of the heart are written
in the countenance and expressed in one's actions.

What is hidden there will reflect in that life, and
steer it in the right (or the wrong) direction.

What is there will "keep" the heart or destroy it,
stunt it's growth and cloud it's vision, or
cause it to prosper and fulfill God's intended design.

How wonderful the imprint of Jesus
on a heart..... to keep it tender and pure,
and cause it to blossom and smile.

For a smiling heart is a gift from Him,
and it speaks of His love and beauty.

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer."
Psalm 19:14 NKJ

His Peace

Do you ever just feel frazzled
When stress begins to build?
Just turn your focus to the Lord.
Your tension will be stilled.

Do you ever feel afraid
And are jittery inside?
Let the Lord take all your fears,
And in His peace abide.

Do you ever feel unsure
And just need some new direction?
Wait until you have His peace,
For He will give protection.

Jesus' peace is ever there.....
Only a prayer away.
Every day will be a joy
If in His peace you'll stay.

"Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them."
Psalm 119:165 KJV

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."
Isaish 26:3 KJV

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
John 14:27 KJV

White As Snow

If your life has not been good
And you've not done the things you should,
If you don't like your life's review,
It's not too late to start anew.

The Lord will cover with His grace
Past hurts and wrongs you can't erase.
He will wash away your sin
And give you peace and joy within.

He made provision long ago
So that all mankind would know
His love throughout eternity.....
He gave His life at Calvary.

This He did for you and me
From sin and shame to set us free.
Greater love has no man known
Than what our precious Lord has shown.

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
Isaiah 1:18 KJV
