A Prayerful Nation

As we greet 2010
Prayerfully let us seek God's best,
Bowing in humility
That our nation may be blessed.

Challenges which lie ahead
Cannot be solved in minds of men,
But people bowed in holiness
Can make the difference once again.

Diligence to intercede
Will bring us needed clarity,
Bringing hope, restoring peace,
Inviting God's prosperity.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
II Chronicles 7:14 KJV

A New Year Coming

Some have had a very good year
With opportunity and cheer,
And others seemed to struggle through,
Looking toward a year that's new.

For those who feel they may have failed,
Whose "mountains" just could not be scaled,
Let the old year be at rest.
This new year just may be your best!

Ask the Lord new doors to ope.
Be encouraged! Have new hope.
He can turn the old year's test
To something positive and blessed!

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

Good Things Happen When We Pray

Good things tend to happen when we take the time to pray...
Miracles and healings, and good answers for each day.
Simple problems which we face can tire and wear us out,
But when we pray the Lord will guide and take away our doubt.

Solutions which we just can't see are often just a prayer away,
And God will add His wisdom in those matters which are "grey".
When we need some added strength, we can lean upon His arm.
If we are in danger He will always keep us safe from harm.

Good things tend to happen as we put our faith in Him.
He can turn our circumstance to joy from grim and dim.
Prayer is believing for those things we cannot see,
Knowing He will never fail but hear our every plea.

"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
I Thessalonians 5:16-18 KJV

A Gift Of Joy

I had a friend whose joy was like sunshine.
Moments with her would often be fun-time.
Humor and laughter just seemed to surround her,
Even when problems would nag or occur.

She had her weights and burdens to bear,
But she read the Word and spent time in prayer.
Her faith in God would lift and renew.
No matter the problem, her joy would shine through.

Even when ill she still prayed for others,
Family and friends, sisters and brothers.
Joy was her gift, which she shared with all.
In friendship and love she stood very tall.

Listening

Oftentimes Grandma would just sit and listen
To others' expressions and what they would say.
If we made mention of why she was quiet,
She would just say, "I hear more that way!"

This comment always would catch my attention,
For she had much wisdom she gained through the years.
We were the ones who needed to listen...
To not "ramble on" but lend her our ears.

Often our minds are too full of thoughts.
If we take pause there is much we could learn
From those who have lived much longer than we,
For we will find wisdom and rich return.

Much Good News

There is much good news to tell...
How Jesus came to earth to dwell.
Spread His message far and wide,
That many may in Him abide.

He gave all for you and me,
To save our souls and set us free.
Magnify His holy name.
Give Him glory and acclaim!

As we celebrate His birth
Far and wide throughout the earth,
May His love be birthed anew
And deep in many hearts accrue.

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

A Glorious Event

Silent night, hallowed night,
Eastern star, shining bright,
A newborn babe, love profound,
Angels singing, Heav'nly sound...

Joyful tidings, Heav'n's good news,
Peace on earth, good will to muse,
Shepherds pond'ring distant star,
Worshipping in fields afar...

Quietly a great event,
Love came down... Heaven-sent,
The greatest gift we'll ever know,
Cradled in a manger low.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The prince of Peace."

Sounds Of Christmas

Carolers singing, a joyful sound bringing,
Trumpets and choirs and pretty bells ringing...
These are the sounds of bright Christmas cheer,
Announcing good news for all men to hear!

"Peace be on earth and good will toward men."
Let this be broadcast again and again!
Jesus has come... He is the Light,
Hope for mankind... the world to ignite.

Let celebration well up in your heart
And cause daily worries to flee and depart.
Jesus is come, our joy to renew.
Let His song ring forth... in me and in you!

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

King Of Kings

Let all Heav'n and earth proclaim
The majesty of Jesus' name.
Let His power be spread abroad.
Magnify and give Him laud!

Master, Savior, King of Kings...
Praise Him with the harp and strings!
Let all Heav'n and earth give voice.
He is Lord... in Him rejoice!

Carols, hymns and anthems raise.
Give Him honor, sing His praise.
Share with all His wondrous story.
He is worthy of all glory!

"Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen."

A Heavenly Host

There are angel voices singing
And sweet bell choir's joyous ringing,
Being heard throughout the earth
As we celebrate Christ's birth.

Once again let men employ
The love of God and know His joy.
In this blessed holy season
Surely we have wondrous reason...

To proclaim what God has done
And contemplate His precious Son.
Join the angels as they voice
All praise to God... with them rejoice!

"And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Room In The Inn

Baby Jesus, do not fear...
I will make for You some space.
Little child without a bed,
In my heart I'll make a place.

I invite and welcome You
Deep within my heart to stay.
I want to live my life for You
And want to bless You every day.

As You reside within my heart,
Joy and worship I will bring.
You are worthy of all praise,
You'll daily cause my heart to sing.

Nothing I can offer You
For me could greater joy impart
Than to give You residence
In the inn of my own heart.

"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him."

Sing Noel

Angel voices sing "Noel".
Sit and listen "for a spell".
They have good news they will tell...
How Jesus came to earth to dwell.

Angel voices heard on high,
Echoing across the sky
With beauty we cannot deny,
Entreat alll people to draw nigh.

Heavn'ly choirs their worship bring,
"Glory to the new-born King!"
Listen as the angels sing
And let their joy within you ring!

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

A Childhood Christmas

The light in the eyes of a sweet little child,
Worshipping Jesus, the sweet baby mild,
Is precious and tender and wondrous to see.
His love is so pure and his spirit so free.

Lord, let this "imprint" on him ne'er be lost.
May Your love and grace in his heart be embossed.
May the wonder and awe which he has in his heart
Always remain there... Your joy to impart.

For childhood will fade and a young man emerge.
May angels keep watch and around him converge
To guard and protect this wonder and awe.
Let him ne'er forget the "manger" he saw.

"For He will give His angels (especial) charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways (of obedience and service)."

The Sounds Of Christmas

Oh, what joyful sounds we hear...
Bells and chimes upon the ear,
Carolers and choirs singing,
Children's laughter gaily ringing.

Happy sounds float through the air
The birth of Jesus to declare.
Excitement fills our hearts with song
And makes us want to sing along.

The Christmas season fills with joy
As praise and worship men employ.
Lift your heart and voice to sing.
Celebrate the newborn King!

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men!"

Christmas Walks Among Us

One cold night long years ago
God sent His son in a manger low.
This tiny babe would give His life
To free us from all sin and strife.

Today He lives... He's ever near
And by His Spirit brings good cheer.
Every place where we might go
He is there, His love to show.

We have Christmas every day
As in our hearts He comes to stay.
He brings gifts of greatest blessing...
The love of our great God expressing.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:16 KJV

A Christmas Tree

If I could be a Christmas tree,
The decoration you might see
Would be quite different from the norm,
Colorful and brightly warm.

My branches would be filled with light,
And I would shine both day and night
To tell of Jesus' wondrous birth
And speak His love throughout the earth.

For He gives ornaments of gold...
Love and peace which don't grow old,
Joy and hope which draw folks near
And offer Heav'n's eternal cheer.

With Jesus' beauty I could be
A vital, living Christmas tree,
With lights and garlands which decree
The love of God for all to see.

Mirrors Of Christmas

If this Christmas season were seen in a mirror,
What would be found there in it's clear reflection?
Would there be singing, or sharing and love...
Would anything there point in Jesus' direction?

Would there be scenes of sweet celebration,
Honoring Jesus... rememb'ring His birth?
Who there would practice "good will to all men"
And live in a way to bring peace on the earth?

Christmas has meaning anew every year
As His love is birthed afresh in each heart.
And when this happens, new joy will come forth...
His love and His peace and warmth to impart.

The scenes in the mirror will be lovely indeed,
Recording the love of the Christmas season,
For all that has meaning and really has worth
Is found in our Lord... HE is the reason!

Without Jesus Christ the mirrors will be empty
And will not record a scene or reflection.
The scenes will be lost, for they don't have true meaning,
And will not be worthy of sweet recollection.

Christmas Celebration

Though you may not have a tree
Or you purchase not one gift,
Though you wear no fancy dress
Or your life is all adrift...

The Christmas celebration
Happens deep within the heart.
From there our joy comes forth,
And then Christmas has it's start.

The parties and the decor
Really don't amount to much
If they are not expressions
With our Savior's wondrous trouch.

Our circumstance should not affect
The brightness of the season.
When we know the love of Christ
We have a priceless reason...

To celebrate and fellowship
And want to share with others,
To sing some lovely carols
With some friends or Christian brothers.

The beauty of the season
Lies in grateful adoration
To Jesus Christ Who came to earth
As means for our salvation.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:16 KJV

Let The Children Sing

At Christmas let the children sing.
Let their little voices ring!
Let their hearts well up with joy,
Every girl and every boy.

As they sing of Jesus' birth
And are filled with glee and mirth,
Listen to their gentle sound.
Love and sweetness there abound.

Children have a special way
In how they sing and what they say.
They will bring a simple view
Which oft refreshes me and you.

When the little children sing,
Special blessings they will bring.
Listen to their voices sweet
As the Savior's birth they greet.

"But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 19:14 KJV

Reflections Of His Goodness

We should be collectors
Of the good things God would give
So we could bring example
Of the way He'd have folks live.

The myriad facets of His love
Are there for all to know.
As we worship at His feet
His gifts He will bestow.

His wisdom is a treasured prize
Within the heart to store.
His "fruits" are goals to reach for
And to live by more and more.

Always there is more to learn
And "nuggets" to collect,
In hopes that in our lives each day
His goodness we'll reflect.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance..."
Galatians 5:22-23 KJV

Laughter Is Better

Laughter is better than sorrow and tears,
And hope is much better than anger and fears.
Laughter and joy are as sweet, healing balm
In the midst of anxiety when we need calm.

Look on the light side... refuse to get down.
Wear a bright smile in place of a frown.
Laughter breaks tension when problems loom large,
And we need not struggle when God is in charge.

God gives us hope and deep peace for each day,
And He is well able our problems to weigh.
Only in Him can we laugh through the "storm".
He is our strength, and His joy is our norm.

"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."

A Gift Of Priceless Worth

Sounds of worship waft and swell
As God's sweet promise comes to dwell.
Once again we celebrate
And with anticipation wait.

This little babe of lowly birth
Was God's own gift of priceless worth.
Gather round the manger low.
Love and adoration show.

This time of joy will warm the heart
And Heaven's blessings will impart.
As once agian we are renewed
We bow in heart-felt gratitude.

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

A Door Of Hope

Jesus walked through pain and sorrow
So you and I can face the morrow.
We are not without great hope
Or left without a way to cope.

God reached down from high above
And sent His Son to show His love.
We will never be alone
Or need to fear what is unknown.

For Jesus stays right by our side.
In His covering we abide.
Jesus is the open door
To God's great blessings evermore.

"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
Revelation 3:20 KJV

A Christmas Voice

It's time to raise a Christmas voice
With joyous sound, "Rejoice! Rejoice,"
As once again we celebrate
And Jesus' birth commemorate.

Hallowed is this special season.
Jesus really is the reason
Why we have a holiday
And God's great love again convey.

The Christmas message shall remain
And offer love and hope again.
God sent "Love" to everyone.
Meditate on what He's done.

Jesus was God's greatest gift,
Our lives to save and bless and lift.
Join with me and raise your voice.
Jesus came... Rejoice! Rejoice!

Fresh-Fallen Snow

Snowflakes drifting silently
Bring a "hush" o'er field and hill,
Covering the winter "gray"
With white which seems to say, "Be still".

Quietly and gracefully
The snow transforms our weary view
Into a picture of delight
And seems to speak, "I'll make things new".

As we gaze upon the snow
And pause in sweet reflection,
We'll see her purify with white
Every imperfection.

"For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth..."
Job 37:6 KJV

Clear Answers

The Word exposes errors and flaws,
Concerning sin a fine line draws.
Issues are so very clear
When held up to the Scripture's mirror.

Only by God's Holy Word
Can we discern the "truths" we've heard.
Thoughts can oft be masked with skill
By flourishes and speech with frill.

But measured by God's Holy Word
The thoughts may seem somewhat absurd.
And sometimes if we are not sure,
The Word will show us what is "pure".

Our own wisdom comes up short.
Good order it can even thwart.
If with Scripture we agree,
God's own answers we will see.

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12 KJV

Storm-Proof

If God is our builder, our "structure" is strong.
As we trust in Him He filters out wrong.
He gives foundation on which we may stand.
He steadies and guides us by His mighty hand.

Though storms may come and winds may blow hard
Always His angels will watch and keep guard.
When our foundation is anchored in Him
We will not waver, e'en though times seem grim.

He gives us hope which bypasses fear,
Joy as our strength to e'er persevere,
And peace deep within, that we might have rest.
When we're "built" in Him we will stand every test.

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."

Finding Christmas

The real Christmas isn't found
In presents from a shopping mall
And dashing back and forth in stores
For many items, large and small.

Jesus Christ is still the reason -
Christmas is His wondrous story.
He was God's most precious gift.
We should praise and give Him glory.

Jesus' name has been erased
From speech and courts and public schools,
But He still lives in many hearts.
He is Lord, and He still rules!

What a wondrous gift God gave,
Of love and joy and hope for all.
The happiness which Jesus brings
Cannot be purchased in a mall.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Love's Good News

People by their love are known
When acts of kindness they have shown.
Love brings change which needs to come,
And though it may be just a "crumb"...

Yet it brings a ray of hope.
A tiny door it might just ope.
And when the door is opened wide
Love's bright light is multiplied.

Tiny sparks of love when sown
Can make love's flame become full-blown,
Igniting even further fire
And acts of kindness which inspire.

Any lives which love may touch
Have chance to benefit by much.
May we by our love be known
For acts of kindness we have shown.

"And above all these (put on) love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness (which binds everything together completely in ideal harmony).
Colossians 3:14 Amplified Bible

A Patchwork Quilt

Through the years if I save scraps and make of them a quilt,
The quilt becomes a decoupage of memories which were built.
Happiness and joyful times reside within the scraps.
Every little, special piece a memory recaps.

The quilt becomes a storybook of treasures pieced together,
A coverlet of life well-lived through many kinds of weather.
Some scraps may be poignant or bring a tear or two,
But all the scraps are precious, and sweet memories review.

In the quilt are lessons which in life were taught and learned,
Of sweet rewards and victories which by diligence were earned.
A patchwork quilt has value rare which only will be known
By the life it represents... by whom it's threads were sewn.

Footsteps Toward Eternity

Footsteps toward eternity...
We're given just so many.
We should make them count for good,
Not sacrificing any.

Our talents, time and giftedness
Can make the world much better.
As we use them for our God
We will not be life's debtor.

Giving, sharing, loving, caring
All contribute to His cause.
Doing all in Jesus' Name
Will foster heavenly applause.

As we walk our daily paths
We can bring a Heavenly touch
To many who don't know our God,
And then our lives will count for much.

"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace, that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation..."

Meaningful Prayer

When you don't know how to pray,
It is best to simply say,
"Father, let Thy will be done.
Finish what You have begun."

Then rest in faith that He will hear.
Release to Him all doubt and fear.
Let His "stillness" have increase.
Let Him fill you with His peace.

Sometimes when we rush to pray
And simply don't know what to say,
We may stumble or make error.
Remember, then, this holy prayer...

"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven..."
Matthew 6:10 KJV

Established In Him

People feel good when they are established
In home or a job or family or school
But then may be shaken if change comes along,
For change is unsettling and can overrule.

When they are "grounded" with Jesus as Lord,
If order and patterns they live by each day
May suddenly turn obsolete without worth,
They will not falter or wobble or stray.

He is an Anchor which cannot be shaken.
His people will never be lost or forsaken.
He is the rock on which they may stand
When life all around them is as shifting sand.

"For thou art my rock and fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me."
Psalm 31;3 KJV

Many Surprises

Cupboards and closets hold many surprises.
Cleaning them out my space maximizes.
Back in the corners small things seem to hide.
Things I've not seen for a time there reside...

Things I've misplaced or thought I had lost...
Even some things which should have been tossed!
Having some space just seems to attact
More clutter, until the space becomes packed!

Having made space I should lock the door!
Then I won't save or collect even more!
I must decide to not collect "stuff".
I already have more than enough!

Used Of God

How big the gift which you will give
That other folks may brightly live?
What will you offer to a soul
Who has much need to be made whole?

When we have a special "call"
To bypass self and offer all,
We just must not miss the chance
Or even give a sideway glance.

God will show to us those needs
Where we may give and plant good seeds.
He will use us mightily
If we will "hear" an urgent plea.

As we're open to His call
He'll use us in things great and small.
Walking as He gives us lead
All other "pleasures" will exceed.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

His Name Is High

We are surrounded by good and by plenty.
God meets our needs in miraculous ways!
Let us be mindful of His glorious bounty
And lift up a song of thanksgiving and praise.

His name is high... above any other...
Worthy of honor and reverence and praise.
Let us lift up our hearts and our hands
And to our great God celebration raise!

"I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together."

Thanksgiving Thoughts

Thanksgiving brings reminder of God's abundant blessing,
And pilgrims coming from afar, their love of God expressing.
They did not quit or "give up ship" becuase of hardship's "press",
But stood for freedom valiantly, enduring constant stress.

The first few years were bleak and hard... they paid a very high cost,
And as they suffered in the cold, precious lives were lost.
They labored and stood firm in faith, believing in their cause,
Planting seeds for this great nation... We give them applause!

Thank You, God, for those dear folk who came upon our shore.
The memory of who they were we never should ignore.
They gave up all they had and knew to worship and be free.
Help us be as strong as they... Help us, Lord, to see!

"Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms."
Psalm 95:2 KJV

Where The Spirit Of The Lord Is

Where the Spirit of God is the people will flourish.
Those who are His He always will "nourish".
His people know that in Him there is hope.
Their understanding is broader in scope.

God is so faithful to care for His own.
They do not falter or fear the unknown.
In Him they find the strength for each day
And, filled with His joy, in confidence pray.

In Him they prosper and soar to new heights,
Rising above many everyday plights.
They follow Him and give ear to His voice.
What treasure they have... and how they rejoice!

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

A Peace-Maker's Walk

A peace-maker's walk is humble and low.
Wherever he goes his prayers he will sow.
He looks at life through peace-loving glasses
And seeks God for wisdom to solve life's impasses.

He will move first when tensions are high
To break down tall barriers in those who deny
That they might be wrong or threw the first stone,
For in their denial they stand all alone.

He always moves in love... without threat,
To rebuild old bridges and save much regret.
He "settles" waters which deeply are troubled.
By his sweet actions God's blessings are doubled.

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

A Season Of Thankfulness

October is over, November is here...
Season's reminder Thanksgiving is near,
...A time to remember what Thanksgiving means,
Other than "holidays" and "cuisines".

This day was birthed in the hearts of a few
Who came "oh so far" from all that they knew,
Seeking to worship their God and their King,
Searching for freedom His praises to sing.

Suff'ring severely, they did not give up,
Believing each day God would fill their cup.
Thanksgiving then was a time to rejoice.
In glory to God they praised and gave voice.

Let us remember these brave, humble folk.
Their faith and example in us should evoke
Prayers and thanksgiving that freedom still rings
And for all of the bounty which God daily brings.

"Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods."
Psalm 95:2-3 KJV

Old-Fashioned Goodness

How I appreciate old-fashioned neighbors,
Who reach out in kindness without thought of labors
Of doing for others and spreading good will...
Who reach out in love to those who are ill,

Who speak a good word where'er there is need
And offer encouragement by a good deed.
These folks are rich in kind-hearted living
And spread love and peace by sharing and giving.

They are like sunshine and rainbows of hope
To those who are down and can't seem to cope.
Praise God for neighbors who offer some cheer.
These folks, in God's eyes, are special and dear.

Strong Trees

Godly folks are as strong trees
Whose roots go very deep
Into the soil of righteousness
And many harvests reap.

Planted in the Word of God
And with humble raiment shod,
They will nurture and "shade" folks,
Causing them to be as oaks...

Strong in stature, reaching high
Unto Heaven to draw nigh,
Having roots which go down deep
And even more rich harvests reap.

"Blessed is the man... whose delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

Brightening Someone's Holiday

There are folks I know
And I wonder where they go
At the holidays and such...
Or if they will have much.

It causes me to think,
"Will they have a warming drink
Or a meal to satisfy
When poverty draws nigh?"

If we will just ask
God will show us some small task
In which we could take part
To cheer another's heart.

For one who is alone
Some act of love we've shown
Might bring some needed light
And serve to make things bright.

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye so even to them.."
Matthew 7:12 KJV

Winter Warm

Gather up a harvest of good memories to store,
To warm your heart in "winter" when the rain and windstorms roar.
Memories of jobs well done and times spent with the Lord
Will be there in the "cold times" as a warming, rich reward.

It's good to meditate upon the good things God has done
And thank Him for the peace He gives and battles which were won.
Keep a "scrapbook" in your heart of treasures to review,
And draw strength from it's pages just to help you winter through...

Until the season finds repose and sunshine filters through,
And you can seed new harvests which you later will review.
Seasons come and seasons go, but autumn says "prepare".
Gather up a harvest which will counter winter's fare.

"Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons."

Love Breaks Through

Love can heal and calm and soothe,
And kindness is good measure.
No matter what the conflict,
Loving words are a rich treasure...

Moving mountains, melting "ice",
Breaking down high barriers.
Those who choose to speak in love
Are blessed, "good news" carriers.

Though some words are cruel and mean
And challenge love's good will,
Confidence in love's great power
Will cause us to be "still"...

Believing for the hand of God
To bridge o'er pain and sorrow.
Knowing love is able,
We can better face the morrow.

"He that covereth a transgression seeketh love..."
Proverbs 17:9 KJV

"Love endures long and is patient and kind. Love never fails (never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end)."

God Sees The Heart

Outward appearance can sure be a sham
And cause folks to not know just who I am,
But God sees through this and looks on the heart.
I cannot fool Him with clothing or art.

And what's in the heart will speak through the tongue
And cause my "facade" to be all unstrung.
I can't pretend... it wouldn't make sense.
Before our great God, there is no "defense".

So I will check my actions each day,
Using God's wisdom lest I go astray.
I want to please Him in action and deed
But sure need His help if I'm to succeed!

"For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."
I Samuel 16:7 KJV

Urgent Times

The "wares" of the world are many and varied.
They've offered distractions wherever we've tarried.
But now it is time to weigh what we do,
To make sure our efforts aren't just "much ado".

This is a season to draw close to God,
To "lay down" the paths upon which we've trod
And let Him have sway in the core of our being,
To know if His will we truly are seeing.

He then will show us if we are in sync.
It may be different from how we now think.
The times we are in are rapidly changing,
And all that we do might need re-arranging.

Whatever may come, we need to be ready.
If we are "tuned in", He will keep us steady.
Let His Kingdom values in us have new birth.
Let all that we do before Him have worth.

"Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not, the son of man cometh."
Matthew 24:44 KJV

We Need You, LORD

We need You, Lord, so very much.
We need Your gentle, healing touch.
Wash and cleanse us from sin's stain,
Lest our lives be spent in vain.

Guide our footsteps day-by-day.
In our lives we give You sway.
Teach us, Lord. Our lives renew,
For all our hope is found in You.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

New Doors

God gives opportunity and opens many doors,
And pours out many benefits from His heav'nly stores.
If you've reached a point of change and don't know where to turn,
Be alert for open doors or paths of new sojourn.

God will prosper you beyond just what you know or think
And startle you with all-new change which just might make you blink!
When the plans are His design, have peace in what He does.
Don't look back and wonder just what might have been or was.

Always what the Lord would give will stretch and make you grow,
But He won't give too great a load or "fields which you can't sow".
It is He Who made you, and He'll always give His best
Into your life in every way so you'll be greatly blessed.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Veteran's Day

TRIBUTE TO OUR VETS

Thank you, Vets, for standing strong,
Defending freedom's cause.
You are heroes with brave hearts
For whom we give applause!

Many were the trials and pain
Of battles you have fought.
By suff'ring you have paid the price
And our great freedom bought.

Thank you for the "gift" you've giv'n
By selfless sacrifice.
You have marched in our behalf
In wars with very high price.

Today we pay you tribute
For the victories you have won
And offer up our gratitude
For all that you have done.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Goodness

"Goodness" builds a pretty house.
Warmth and love she will espouse.
Her rooms are filled with joy and health
And happiness... she has much wealth.

"Goodness" is a choice we make,
Sweet opportunity we take.
She will change our wordly view
From "negative" to "bright and new".

"Goodness" has an open door
Where we may enter and find more.
Her peace and joy are without end.
"Goodness" is a lovely friend.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

Godly Roots

In the "landscape" of a life, sometimes seeds take root and grow.
And they become as plants and trees with roots which then cause woe.
Though the trees may be cut down the roots are still in place
And hinder God from working there because they take up space.

In the "landscape" of a life it is good to till the soil
By the Spirit and the Word... any "foreign" roots to foil.
Plants which grow amiss sap vitality and life,
And good roots which should grow then are weakened by this "strife".

God is able to "root out" odd plants which may have grown
And cause to flourish all those plants whose seed by Him were sown.
"Landscapes" sown with holy seeds bring glory to His name
And constantly show witness... His beauty to proclaim.

"Blessed is the man... whose delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season: his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

In Times Of Trial

When you're under tension and it feels just like a broiler,
Chase self-pity from your door... it really is a spoiler!
If you're going through a lot, ask God to make you strong,
To help you shape your attitudes against that which is wrong.

Often we are tested far beyond our comfort zone,
But feeling sorry for ourselves just makes us moan and groan.
If we lean on Jesus when we think we cannot stand,
We have more ability to meet life's harsh demand.

He is there to buoy us up, to help us overcome,
To raise us up above the fray and all that makes us glum.
He will fill us with His might and make us versatile.
We can be triumphant even in life's toughest trial!

"Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."

Morning Dew

God's blessings come down as dew in the morn,
Refreshing and goodness our lives to adorn.
Our God is great, and loving and kind,
And pours out His riches in gifts hand-designed.

Receive of His blessings... gather the "dew",
For each day has treasure designed just for you.
Taste of the freshness and savor it's "scent".
Breathe in it's fragrance... for you it is meant.

Don't waste the dew... each morning it's new
And holds special promise for you to pursue.
Gently it falls as we are at rest
And waits for our waking so we may be blessed.

"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."

A Lighthouse In The Darkness

The Lord is a lighthouse, where all may come in,
A refuge and shelter from pain and chagrin,
A warm healing balm for those who are weak,
Salvation and hope for lives which are bleak.

To those who question or have any doubt,
His light is sure and ne'er will go out.
When darkness comes and seems to surround,
Know that His light will always abound.

In Him are hope and safety and joy.
He'll give you peace as an anchor and buoy
To steady you through the storms you may face
And always to cover you with love's embrace.

"I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness."
John 12:46 KJV

People Who Inspire - John

In Memory of John Richardson
January 9, 1928 - October 23, 2009

A man of God extraordinaire,
A seasoned patriarch of prayer,
One who lives to serve the Lord
And surely will have great reward.

Humble servant, faithful friend,
One who would for souls contend,
He's "Papa John", a well-loved name,
As many children will proclaim.

A ready vessel, a mighty tower...
A channel for God's might and power,
Patient, kind and full of light,
A treasured "candle" shining bright.

"Blessed is the man... whose delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

Ego

"Ego" is a little word,
But oft it's size is quite absurd.
It pats itself upon the back
And of graciousness has lack.

It boasts and grins and thinks it's wise.
It's much too big for it's own size.
Ego can get one in trouble
When someone comes and "pops it's bubble".

Ego's house is built on sand
And in a wind storm will not stand.
Ego needs to seek firm ground.
Humility is much more sound!

"Love is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride)."

A Boy Full Of Love

It truly is a blessing
To hear my grandson's voice.
He always is so cheerful
And makes my heart rejoice!

What a joy to watch him grow
And see him prosper in the Lord.
How can words express to him
How very much he is adored?

He is filled with love and light,
Laughter, gentleness and joy.
God has showered many gifts
On this precious little boy!

The Door Of His Presence

Blessed are those who wait on Me,
Who hearken to My voice.
Blessed are those who find My rest,
Who deep within rejoice.

Many walk right by the "door"
And hurry on their way.
I long to spend some time with them
And speak into their day.

I am always waiting for
The slightest nod or smile...
Of fellowship with those I love,
To make their lives worthwhile.

I have sorrow as I watch them
Suffer pain and trial,
And ponder why they cannot see
They're living in denial.

As they rush along their path
They'll need Me more and more,
And I will be here waiting...
If they'll enter at My door.

"Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."

Well Done

Every seamstress knows that her seams will all unravel
If she doesn't tie off threads to make her seams secure.
She must practice diligence in finishing her work
If she wants to make a garment which will wear well and endure.

She has learned a lesson - that details really matter,
And work which is haphazard doesn't meet a final test.
But she can rest in knowing when her work is finely done
That her goal was well-accomplished, for she has done her best.

Always we should strive to work toward excellence and beauty.
In all our daily taks let us finish with finesse.
Let us bring an offering of quality and worthiness
In honor to our Lord and King, for He would not do less.

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."

True Identity

Do not fret at idle chatter.
Man's opinions do not matter.
How folks treat you may bring stress,
But how they "see" you matters less.

You are who God says you are.
His perception rules by far.
God gives true identity
And fosters blessed serenity.

He will cause you to stand tall
And lift you up if you should fall.
He will add to you much worth
And add to that His joy and mirth.

"But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head."

God Most High

Our foundation we must guard,
As winds of change are blowing hard
To try to shift us from our base
And Christianity erase.

Foolish are the men who try
To trample on our God Most High.
The great I AM, Whose truth will stand,
Just will not bow to man's command.

But He is deeply moved by prayer
Of saints who intercede and care,
Who call upon His name to rule
And stand against all ridicule...

Worshipping in holiness
And bowing in all lowliness,
Standing guard for what is right,
Brightly shining through dark night.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Never Wanting

Jesus always cheers me on
And helps me run my daily race.
He is there to give me balance
For each challenge I may face.

I am confident in Him
In times of weariness or stress,
For it is He Who buoys me up
And keeps me strong against duress.

What a joy to walk with Him
And daily hear His precious voice.
Knowing He is there with me
Is constant reason to rejoice!

Bright Light

Lord, make of me a vibrant light,
A lamp which goes not out by night,
Bringing hope for each new day
To those I meet along my way.

Fill me with Your richest oil
To share with those who faint from toil,
The weary and the burdened folk
Who tread with heaviness of yoke.

May light in me illumine paths,
Retrieving souls from hell's dark wraths,
Guiding souls toward Heaven's store
Of rest, salvation, peace... and more.

A Quick Response

When God has given us a call to do a task, the time is now.
He may ask a quick response, for sometimes time does not allow
For us to pause or lag behind, moving in "our old sweet time."
We could miss an open door when opportunity is prime.

When God shows us what to do, we can't say "later", but say "yes".
Though we may not understand, it's never good to "second-guess".
When He interrupts our path, praise His name, but do not chafe.
The very words which He would speak might even be to keep us safe.

The more we tune in to His voice, the more we can be used of Him.
Without His constant leadership our lives and futures could be dim.
Obedience is that wondrous key which keeps us balanced and alert,
Which causes us to grow in Christ and useless actions to avert.

"To obey is better than sacrifice..."

In Him We Are Able

God is the measure of what we can do
When we trust in Him and His tenets pursue.
He gives us guidance and far-reaching vision,
Then helps us to prosper with strength and precision.

He is the "oil" in the gears of our lives.
It is through Him that "well-being" thrives.
He is the Rock on Whom we may build
And then know our plans will all be fulfilled.

He keeps us ready and balanced and stable.
When we face challenges our God is able
To guard and protect us from going astray.
He is our power and might for each day.

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God, in him will I trust."

Holiday Perspective

While it's still October the stores are courting Christmas
With tinsel-laden decor... it seems ridiculous.
How sad that folks are drawn to the glitzes of the season
Before they even contemplate the season's holy reason.

We have opportunity for bright anticipation
Of praising God in gratefulness and heartfelt celebration
For His gift of Jesus... His plan for our salvation.
Every day is Christmas! We should bow in adoration.

Don't let Christmas meaning get lost in busy living,
But let the coming days and weeks be full of much thanks-giving!
Let us choose within our hearts to give God all the glory,
Remembering His precious gift of Jesus and His story.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Potpourri Of Worship

A potpourri of worship...
A mosaic of sweet praise...
Is created as we lift our hearts
And grateful voices raise.

What sweet savor to the Lord
When His people gather 'round
And offer sacrifice of praise
With overflowing, glorious sound...

Rising in the Heavenlies
To touch the Father's ear...
Precious offerings causing Him
To listen and draw near.

"But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel."

Many Stars

Myriad stars are sprinkled
In the quietness of night
And decorate the heavens
By their gentle, twinkling light.

The stars seem e'er so far away,
Suspended in the sky.
We see them with pure wonder
And their beauty can't deny.

The mystery of the universe,
Hand-formed by our Creator,
Is splashed with rich expression
Of a loving decorator!

As many as the stars of night...
The works which He has done...
To bless us each and every day
Since time was first begun.

"O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"

How many "hats" we wear each day!
Some folks have a large array!
Some may "follow", some may lead,
Some may help or intercede.

Some explore and some create,
Some will sit and contemplate.
Some will watch and some stand still
As others change their "hats" at will.

Each "hat" has ability
And gives us versatility.

And He will give us rich supply...

God's Stitchery

I work on counted cross stitch painstakingly with care
To make sure every stitch I take will have a certain flair.
For each stitch is important and will add a certain hue,
Combining lovely shades of thread with colorful debut.

If I skip a stitch or two, or use wrong-colored thread,
My design will not be right but have some flaws instead.
I try to make my thread lie smooth, avoiding loops and tangles.
Then my work will have a special touch from different angles.

Oh, that I might serve the Lord with this same carefulness
And follow what He has for me with diligence and prayerfulness.
My life has "tiny stitches" which, combined, become His story.
Let me be a finished work which brings Him praise and glory.

Grace For Our Nation

The heart of the nation is aching and sore,
And many folks tremble at what is in store.
But healing will come if we'll seek the Lord's face.
We're truly in need of His mercy and grace.

Let us bow down in reverence and prayer.
Let us cry out and all our sins bare.
Our destiny lies in the palm of God's hand.
It is He who will strengthen and help us to stand.

We need His direction to cure what is ill
And need much correction the turmoil to still.
Man cannot solve this by instinct or pride
But sorely needs God to turn this ill tide.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Lamps And Lamp Posts

In my spirit I see people in a crowd, and they look like lamps (floor lamps), walking around. And the light which is radiating from these lamps is bright and cheery and sheds warmth.

But as I look more closely, also in this crowd are many walking around who have no light. These people appear as lamp posts... without bulbs, without power... dark and grey. They are in darkness. It's like they are walking in the shadows.

What a picture! This group of people is moving about, "going through the motions" of life, but without expression or meaning. The lamp posts have no beauty or light, and if the "lamps" weren't there they would be in total darkness.

We, as Christians, have a calling to bring light wherever we are. As we let the light of Jesus shine through us we become hope for many. We can offer love, joy and peace by our speech and actions and walk. We can spread cheer by our warmth and demeanor. With the light of Jesus within we enable others to find the Light. Through us God can transform these bleak-looking lamp posts into lovely lamps which will shine brightly. God loves these "lamp posts", and He doesn't want them to be lost.

Be as a lovely lamp. Let your rays of light issue forth. Shine brightly!

"Ye are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Eternal Life

If we've not lived for Jesus, when all is said and done
Our many works won't have much worth... No, not even one.
What we do in Jesus' name has heavenly import.
Oh, what blessing we have when the Savior's love we court.

If we've accepted Jesus and at His table supped,
And stored up many treasures where rust does not corrupt,
We have hope of great reward forever through eternity.
Blessed life with our dear Lord... what more wondrous gift could be?

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."

Mirror Image

In the mirrors of my life
What reflection will folks see?
In my actions every day
What then will the message be?

Deep within I can't "perform"
Nor "drum up" images to show.
Any image I might have
Will happen as in Christ I grow.

When Christ is inside He'll shine through
And cause reflections in my mirror
Which then cause the folks who look
To see His beauty become clearer.

The mirrors are dull without the Lord,
Clouded o'er without much light.
But when Jesus lives within
Then the mirrors are clear and bright.

"Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Matthew 5:16 KJV

No Bugs!

Lord, why did You make insects
And creepy, crawly critters?
Things with wings and bugs with webs
Sure give me shakes and jitters!

I know birds need bugs to eat,
But sometimes bugs like ME.
And little bees make honey sweet,
But since they sting, I flee!

When I sit out on my deck
Mosquitos share my quiet space.
I'm afraid I do not show them
Welcome, caring, love or grace.

And little ants scout out my kitchen,
Looking for some food.
Patience flies right out the door.
To them I am quite rude!

There are moths who like to chew
A hole in things I wear.
I don't buy my clothes for them...
Not for them to share!

I might like a lady bug,
To bring me some good luck,
But mostly don't like crawly things.
They make me nervous. Yuck!

A Fine Line

Sometimes we speak a "little white lie",
Not meant to harm, but just to "get by".
Or sometimes we falter in speaking the truth.
In an effort to placate, we say what is "sooth".

Truth is a standard - it's still "black and white".
Even the tiniest lie is not right.
Little "white lies" are not an exception,
And sooner or later will suffer detection.

Lying and "hedging" defile the heart
And just are not pretty, so don't let them start.
Truth loves it's hearers... a much better way
To answer life's issues and not go astray.

"A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it..."
Proverbs 26:28 KJV

"Wherefore putting away lying speak every man truth with
his neighbour: for we are members one of another."

God's Paintbrush

When God is the artist, the canvas He paints
Has brush strokes of beauty, color and flair.
All that He touches is rich and unique,
Exquisite and fine, worthy and rare.

His paints are full of compassion and love
And laden with joyousness, courage and hope.
He adds His beauty where "landscapes" are bare
With brightness and colors unending in scope.

He gives attention to minute detail
And studies His work... to give it His best.
Our lives are canvas before our great God.
As He does the artwork we truly are blessed.

"Thy hands have made me and fashioned me..."

The Love Of God

Though our prayers be long and many and our praises be on high,
Words will ne'er encompass God's great love... they just fall shy.
Man's perception of our God is miniscule at best.
We can't grasp or fathom all the ways in which we're blessed.

But when we practice His command to always love our "brother",
To reach out with a caring hand in helping one another,
We have touched His very heart... this God we so revere.
He takes notice of that love and hastens to draw near.

None will ever match His lovingkindness and His grace.
Nothing else we know in life His love can e'er replace.
God is o'er all heav'n and earth, and yet He is our friend.
All throughout eternity His love will never end.

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God..."

The Waters Of The Spirit

The waters of the Spirit, which are pure and crystal-clear,
Will wash and cleanse within our hearts until we shall appear
As spotless and with robes of white before our precious Lord.
Eternity with Jesus Christ is Heaven's blessed reward.

Holy Spirit, wash us now of all our spot and stain.
Wash away the "cloudiness" of that which is mundane.
Let no haziness remain... no shadow or no doubt.
Make us pure and holy. Cleanse us, Lord, inside and out.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

More Time To Play

A Children's Poem

The more I have and store and keep,
The more I have to clean and sweep.
Some days my toys are in a heap.
This problem makes me want to weep!

If I give some things away
I might have more time to play.
Clean-up time I spend each day
Would then be shorter. Yay! Hooray!

Because my room won't look so bad
I could then please Mom and Dad.
Extra play time this would add...
And THAT would really make me glad!

Answers For Today

If your feet are weary from the path on which you tread,
And you wake up every morning with a sense of fear and dread,
If your arms hang down from the weight and load you bear
And confusion seems to keep you from the Word and daily prayer...

There is help so very near to make your burden light...
And answers which you have not seen... bright and also right!
In the Word is wisdom which is current for today...
Aid with proven worth which will keep you from life's fray.

You will find firm footing so your feet will never slip.
Studying the Word of God will help you "get a grip".
Here is strength and hope for a new and better day.
God will light your path as you read His word and pray.

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
Psalm 119:105 KJV

"For thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness."

Seedtime And Harvest

Good seeds we have planted over time and through the years
Will surely bring a harvest of rejoicing from our tears.
As we sow our labors and our prayers unto God
We can know His faithfulness is more than just a "nod".

For He will count our labors and will bottle up our tears,
Will fill us with His strength and give joy amidst our fears.
Good seeds which are sown may lie dormant for a time,
But then will find fruition as a precious paradigm.

Sowing is a pleasant task, of which we should not tire,
With promise of a harvest, to which we should aspire.
Harvest time is glorious when we gather up our grain,
For God was there amidst our fields, our labors to ordain.

"He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."
Psalm 126:6 KJV

Always With Us

As we move through life we have "frameworks" around us
Of families and friends who lend us support.
But sometimes we find ourselves standing alone.
It is then we reach up and the Lord's help we court.

But all of the time He was standing quite near,
Ready to reach out and give us His hand.
When leaning on others we sometimes forget
It is Jesus Who steadies and helps us to stand.

He is our source and help for each day.
When we're not strong He always is able.
No matter the depth of the storms we go through,
We're never alone but in Him will be stable.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Guarding Our Focus

Sometimes in our "walk"
Our attention span will wander.
When we're off on "bunny trails",
God's purpose we may squander.

Keeping focused in the Lord
Is manna we should savor,
Lest glancing off to left or right
May cause our steps to waver.

Distractions will rob energy
And cause us to lose track.
The time and purpose we may lose
Sometimes we can't get back.

Patterns in the way we live
May need a fresh, new change.
And it may be a challenge...
Our time to re-arrange.

When our thoughts are trained on Him
Then we will be at rest.
And in our daily walk with Him
We truly will be blessed.

"I will praise the Lord with my whole heart..."
Psalm 111:1 KJV

"Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established."

Discerning The Holy Spirit

I have been in meetings (wonderful meetings) where the Holy Spirit was speaking through people, where lives were being touched, where "words of knowledge" were coming forth, where fellowship in the Spirit was warm and wonderful... and all in attendance felt blessed. And I have treasured those times.

But then as I was driving home or, if after I got home I would sit and wait on the Lord quietly, He would begin to speak further. He would give me an "overview" of what He was doing in those meetings. The "overview" was revelation, and it was the "key" to understanding His purpose.

This is true not just in meetings, but in all the events of our lives. Taking time to discern the movement of the Spirit is what will guide us in all that we do. God has not left us helpless. He has given us the Holy Spirit. And as we listen to the voice of the Spirit and learn to discern His movement our vision will be opened up and our footsteps will be sure.

Importantly, if we are keen to discern the movement of the Spirit we will not spend time in any one place beyond the timing of the Spirit but will always be moving forward.

Our God is faithful to always guide and help us.

"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."
I Corinthians 2:12 KJV

Helping One Another

Communities and neighbors
Standing strong in times of need,
Helping one another,
Bring recovery with speed.

We're not meant to stand alone
When we are under stress.
Many hands can make light work
And quickly ease duress.

Encouraging and reaching out
Helps folks to start to cope.
When they're hurting and in need
Others can bring love and hope.

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them..."

Cobwebs

Have you ever noticed how cobwebs seem to happen when you aren't looking or paying attention, and how they are sticky and "cling" to you when you touch them or walk into one? When I see them on the walls of my house I know the spiders have been there "working".

This is what can happen to us spiritually (in our minds and thoughts and spirits) if we don't keep surveillance. If "cobwebs" start to clutter up our relationship with the Lord they can cloud our vision and rob our joy. When they rest undisturbed over a period of time they will become as a think woven layer. This can also happen in relationships with family and friends, in job situations, in churches... anywhere where "spiders" are. Cobwebs block the flow of the Spirit.

It is important to spend time in prayer and allow the spotlight of the Holy Spirit to show us if we have any cobwebs which need to be cleaned out, and then we need to deal with them. Probably none of us would "invite" spiders into our homes, but when they leave a "trail" we can certainly sweep it out!

"For the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee..."

Hope For This Day

In God is hope for this day and hour,
Sheltered in Him, Who is a strong tower.
In Him is anchor when footing is weak.
He is assurance when all seems quite bleak.

In Him is joy through darkness of night.
He is our strength, our very sure light.
He is our God, in Whom we are blessed.
Let His great peace in your heart bring rest.

"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust."

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

Lullaby

Angel wings, hovering,
Angel wings, covering,
Bringing peace and rest and sleep.
May their watchcare safely keep...

Singing gentle lullabies,
Of flowers and pretty butterflies.
Slumber on, O little child.
May your dreams be soft and mild.

Till you wake up to the dawn
And greet the new day with a yawn,
May your rest be heaven-sent
As angel wings provide your tent.

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."

Autumn's Warmth

God has His paintbrush ready and His palette in His hand,
To brighten up the countryside and make it all look grand!
He'll splash His colors far and wide in autumn's bright display.
It seems He gives us extra "warmth"... enough for winter's "gray".

When cold sets in and earth will sleep, we'll have these memories
Of beauty from the Master's hand, our hearts and thoughts to please.
Drink in His great artistry to cheer and keep you warm.
Let it be a burning fire through wind and rain and storm.

Until He wakes the earth again with blades of green in spring,
Let harmonies of autumn's flair within your spirit ring.
Harvest beauty in this time for store within your soul.
Forget not all God's benefits displayed in autumn's role.

"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation."

A Special Legacy

When we finish our race and enter into eternity, what legacy will we leave behind?

For some there will be the legacy of astounding accomplishments or gifted showmanship or high learning skills. But for some it may be daily service to others from a heart of love, not necessarily receiving appreciation or notice for our labors.

What measures the worth of a legacy is whether it was done heartily as to the Lord. In the sight of God the simplest act we might have done may have the greatest worth. And sometimes the imprint of a life will be greater in retrospect.

We may not even be aware of how God is using us, but as we serve Him He will cause our lives to have the greatest possible impact on those around us. Nothing will be lost.

At no time should we give up and think there is nothing more we can do. The greatest thing we do might come at the last second before we slip away. If we pray that God will help us complete all that He has for us to do, then our legacy will not be lacking in any measure.

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."

God has given each a voice
With which to worship and rejoice.
Let us glorify His name
And His majesty proclaim.

Let us lift up song and praise
And grateful adoration raise.
Let us praise and magnify

Quiet Balance

We sometimes get so caught up in the schedules of the day
That we forget to celebrate God's goodness in our "way".
When we have too much to do and hurry to and fro
We lose quiet balance for a long day's ebb and flow.

Measuring how much our load and spacing out it's weight
Will help us to avoid having too much on our plate.
Making place throughout the day to "listen" and to pause
Allows us to have insight and to give our God applause.

We may labor very hard to get a day's work done,
But somewhere in that busy day should pray and not just "run".
Precious moments spent with Him refresh and keep us free.
Renewing quiet balance is the answer and the key.

"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin."

Be Contagious

Have you ever noticed how, when another person is enthusiastic or excited about something, their joy rubs off on you and it is good to be around them?

I walked into church one morning and greeted a young man, asking him how he was. He answered me with, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits!" (Psalm 103:2); and "Let everything that is within me bless His holy name!" (Psalm 103:1).

The Scripture was flowing out of Him as a river of living water, and it impacted me. He was greeting people with the Word! My spirit immediately came alive, and I began to rejoice. What a moment! He was on fire, and the Holy Spirit was fanning the flame.

Be contagious for Jesus! Spread His joy around. Let His joy spring up within you and splash out on others! Be as a spark which lights a fire and, as on a prairie, let your spark be fanned into a mighty sweeping fire for God.

Fan the flames of the Good News of Jesus!

Laughing With Us

God must need a sense of humor
As He watches us each day,
Tripping, fumbling, getting stuck
As we try to find our way.

Aren't you glad He "picks us up"
And "dusts us off" and smiles
And says, "Okay, let's try again"
When we are having trials?

Aren't you glad He's full of love
And "pats us on the back"?
Even though we may have failed,
His grace is never slack.

When our "feeble" efforts
Are just comic in some way,
Surely He laughs with us,
And He helps us day-to-day.

"Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God..."

On Eagle's Wing

The eagle rises in the wind
And seems to glide with ease.
The power in his practiced wings
Great majesty decrees.

There is none to equal
The great skill with which he soars,
Sweeping upward through the sky
As the heavens he explores.

God has promised us as much,
That we too would have power
To mount up as with eagles' wings,
E'en in our weakest hour.

"Waiting" on our precious Lord
We find new strength each day.
We become as eagles
And we mount up as we pray.

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

Let Freedom Ring

Freedom comes at fearsome cost
And must be guarded, never lost.
Men have suffered, bled and died
That we in safety may abide.

Evil battles for control.
Ungodly men it would enroll
To serve it's own agenda thus.
Let us pray it not touch us.

March in prayer and rise up strong!
Firmly stand against this wrong!
Let our cries be loud and clear,
That our nation God might steer...

Around these dangers, toils and snares.
May God rule in these affairs,
Lest we drink the cup of sorrow
And not have freedom for the morrow.

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty."

The Poetry Of Life

The "poetry" of daily life is sometimes a conundrum.
Some "events" which happen... well, I wonder where they come from!
Things which ought to work together sometimes will not rhyme.
And when I need to change my "tack", I find I'm losing time.

Smoothly should my life's "lines" flow, in harmony of wit and charm,
My rhythm moving to and fro, free from problems and alarm!
But life takes tricky twists and turns and writes it's own "lines" of concern.
So I seek God for every verse. For every word He gives, I yearn.

This is how the rhythm of a missing line improves:
When God gives out the perfect verse, then the rhythm "moves",
Having lines which ebb and flow with symmetry of sound.
The Lord brings forth a cadence which is lovely and profound.

"As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God..."

Draw Nigh Unto God

"Draw nigh unto God..." I heard this so clearly in my spirit.

In the time of trouble, draw nigh unto God. He desires to gather His people unto Himself and to encourage and comfort them in these times.

He is our shelter... our place of safety. He is our cloud by day and our fire by night. He is our confidence, in Whom we shall not be afraid.

He is working to protect His people. Do not resist the movement of His hand, but draw nigh into oneness with Him, and be at peace.

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
Psalm 91:1 KJV

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Inner Healing

Much "knitting together" happens in a life over the years, and the constant knitting creates layers and layers of covering over the events of that life. What is in the underneath layers becomes hidden and covered up... so much so that we forget or no longer can even reach or define what is there. Sometimes the "layers" of our life weigh us down and we lose the ability to function as God designed. Only He, by the searchlight of the Holy Spirit, can identify what is there.

And so we must put the knitting needles down and hand the thread of yarn into the hands of God, in trust. With tender, loving care He will begin to unravel the complexity (or tangle) of layers which has accumulated over time. Some of the layers may have been knitted by those around us or by circumstance, but oftentimes we have knitted the layers by our own thinking or actions.

Because we have a merciful and loving God we should not fear this unraveling process but look forward to the fullness of life He would give us. What a blessing it is to have God uncover the knots and tangles and missed stitches and, when He is through, to wear a new garment of beauty, knitted by His hand.

"Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou has put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness..."
Psalm 30:10-11 KJV

Words Which Heal

"I will listen..."
"May I help you..."
"I have time..."

I will listen when you're hurting,
Maybe lonely, scared or weary.
I will listen to your heart
And try to speak a word that's cheery.

May I help you in some way,
To lift your load or reach your goal?
May I help you find some rest
...Or refreshing for your soul?

I have time and will not rush.
I'll take a moment just for you.
For you are more important
Than whatever else I have to do.

Safety In Him

(An Answer To Prayer)

Every day I pray over the cars and vehicles I and my family members drive or ride in. And God has been faithful to answer my prayers and keep us safe. This week my son was in an accident where a 19-year-old who had been drinking hit the semi-truck my son was driving. His truck had a 48-foot trailer, and the other vehicle went under the trailer, hitting the axle, and then spun off to the side.

My son starts work around 3:30 a.m., and anytime I hear the phone ring when it's still dark and see his name on my caller i.d., it's usually a call for prayer. It was 6:15 a.m., and I heard him say, "Mom, I've been in an accident. I'm okay, but please pray for the guy that hit me. We are waiting for Life Flight."

The fire department came and got the young man out of what was a twisted pile of metal and rubble, and Life Flight took him to the hospital. He is in fair condition, and we are grateful that he is alive, although to look at pictures of his vehicle you would have to wonder how he lived through the crash.

We are grateful that God covered this situation so completely. He somehow helped my son to not run over the other vehicle when it was coming at him head-on (this was on a two-lane highway with not much room to pull off), and He helped my son to stay cool in the situation. He did not get hurt and was able to go back to work the next day.

May God keep His hand on this 19-year-old young man, heal him and use him mightily.

God never lets us down in our time of need. He is faithful! He is always there, and He is awesome! May His name be praised!

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."
Psalm 91:11 KJV

A Faithful Messenger

The following story is about something that happened approximately ten years ago, but I am sharing it because the message in it is urgent for these times.

I was at church early one Sunday morning and was approached by a pleasant-looking, gray-haired couple. As the man began to speak I realized they were from a foreign country. He said that they were from Czechoslavakia and that God had given him a message to take to the churches of America. The message was this: "Is this church praying for the children of America? Are YOU praying for the children of America?"

After he spoke, they were gone. Because they left so quickly I pondered at first whether I had just met angels. Whether or not this was true, at this point I knew that this man was a messenger of God to our church.

A week or so later he appeared on a Wednesday evening just before our service. Again he said to me, "Is this church prayinig for the children of America? Are YOU praying for the children of America?" And again, he was gone. And yet a third time he returned and connected with our pastor with his message and then left.

This man had been going from church to church to church, speaking this message which God had given him. I could only praise God for his obedience to leave his homeland in his senior years and bring this message to America. This is even now more urgent than when the Lord first sent him. We must be praying for our children.

Autumn's Flair

Autumn paints with brilliant flair
To dress the land in colors bold.
She will pull out "all the stops"
And splash about her red and gold.

She'll celebrate the passing year
In festive manner with her art
And show to us her myriad hues
Before the winter has it's start.

Autumn leaves a special warmth
To cheer us on in days to come
And then she quietly withdraws
As winter starts to play it's drum.

"O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"

A Forgiving Heart

The cost of unforgiveness is an aching, ailing heart,
A malady which penetrates and pricks one as a dart.
The torment grows in size o'er time and robs deep joy and peace,
Bringing illness and despair, causing love to cease.

Jesus Christ forgives us of our actions and offense,
So we should practice to forgive, to lay down our "defense',
Praying for each other as the Lord would have us do.
He will lift our "woundedness" and heal us through and through.

Oh, what happiness we have when we lay down our "woe".
As we love, and do not hate, His healing waters flow.
Jesus prayed, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do",
Even when He knew that He would die for me and you.

"Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
Luke 23:34 KJV

"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Leaning In Prayer

When making a decision it is wise in prayer to stand,
Or we could soon be living in a dry and "foreign land".
Should we make an error, all around us will feel strange.
But if we wait on God, a good path He will arrange.

God knows all our needs, and the answer which is best.
Trusting in His guiding hand will cause us to be blessed.
So patiently we wait on Him, with courage and with hope,
Leaning, growing, trusting, till a new door He will ope.

For anwers which are "no", or which may not be our choice,
We should not have question but in Him we should rejoice!
Always He will steer us clear of obstacles and error.
Our well-being rests in Him... He is our burden-bearer.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7 KJV

A New Pace

(A Word Of Encouragement)

God's hand is moving in ways which astound
To free up His people who long have been bound.
He is our healer, our "mender", our Source.
He is now moving... to keep us on course.

We will find answers which we have long sought.
Hard hearts will soften and change as they ought.
We will see movement we did not expect...
Good change which only our God could perfect.

God has new timing to put things in place.
That which He does will have quickened pace.
God is preparing us for a new day,
And we'll see His moving as we watch and pray.

"Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
II Corinthians 3:17 NKJ

Anchored Faith

We won't have a worthy anchor
If for worldly things we hanker.
It's distraction is too much
Whene'er we get involved in such.

Having anchor in the Lord
And studying the two-edged sword
Will make us as a bulwark strong
Against the tide of evil's wrong.

Shakings, tremors, flood and wind
An anchored faith cannot rescind.
Those acquainted with God's power
Have safety in the darkest hour.

Should our days grow gray and dim
We will find true strength in Him.
He will answer when we call.
His strength is great when ours feels small.

"Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might."
Ephesians 6:10 KJV

Prayers

Prayer knows no distance,
But reaches 'cross the miles,
And comes as soothing, healing balm
To ease our daily trials.

Prayer changes circumstance
And really isn't bound.
When we rest within it's arms
God's healing is profound.

Prayer brings God's healing touch
And ushers in sweet heav'nly sphere.
Oh, what comfort, Oh what peace,
As God replies and hovers near.

God pours out His lovingcare
And fills us with His joy and peace.
When we speak a heartfelt prayer
Graciously He brings release.

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31 KJV

The Holy Place

The Holy Place.....

That place of sanctuary where every whisper of my heart can be shared with my Lord, and where every whisper is heard.

That place where God's presence and love surround me, and where He awaits my coming.

That place where the communication and the sharings of our hearts together... His heart and mine... bring light and insight and encouragement.

A place set apart from the din and noise and distractions of the day... my hiding place.

A place of wonder.

A place which is so rich and wonderful that time is of no consequence... only the desire to stay and absorb it's beauty.

The Holy Place... a place of unspeakable joy.

Fine Apparel

God's people are not dressed in "rags".
He clothes us with His gladness.
We can put off our sackcloth
And put away our sadness!

We can wear salvation
And a garment of bright praise.
We have robes of righteousness
To wear throughout our days!

Glory be unto our God
For giving us rich ornament.
He has given us His best...
Our clothes are Heav'n's adornment.

"Thou has turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness."
Psalm 30:11 KJV

"The Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek... to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness."
Isaiah 61:1 & 3 KJV

A Call To Thanksgiving

This is a call to return to prayer, to times of thanksgiving and reverence for God. The people of our nation have been lackadaisical in their attitudes and are remiss in not acknowledging His goodness.

God Himself will not allow us the life of ease which we have known for so long because many have become lazy and arrogant with pride. And we have not been diligent to thank Him for His outpouring upon this land. We have presumed upon His goodness and let His blessings slip away from us.

Our God is awesome, and much to be worshipped. He is the giver of all good things. In Him are all benefits and wisdom found, freely given out of His great love and mercy. All glory be to His name!

"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised..."
Psalm 48:1 KJV

Eventide

In quiet hush of eventide
God hovers oh, so near.
When the "dust" of day recedes
His gentle voice I hear.

"The day is done, it's battles won.
Peace, My Child, be still.
Let your spirit rest in Me
And find sweet sleep until...

I bring another fresh new morn,
Sparkling softly with the dew...
My gift to you... of Son-lit day
When all is fresh and new.

In quiet now of eventide,
Hush, My Child, be still.
Let My angels watch o'er thee
And blessings o'er you spill."

God's Greatest Miracle

God's greatest work is done in hearts
When His salvation He imparts.
Who else could bring a sinner home
When he determined just to roam?

Who could make such wondrous change,
A wasted life to re-arrange?
Who could bring a heart of stone
To kneel and pray, for sin atone?

He will reach into deep "sludge"
And save a sinner with a "nudge",
Pouring out His love and grace,
Offering His own embrace.

What an awesome God we serve.
His love is more than we deserve.
No one else could e'er compare
Nor give to us such lovingcare.

"Likewise I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."
Luke 15:10 KJV

Set Aside With Him

When we have to make a change
We may not know God's plan long-range.
"Separation" oft is hard
And leaves us feeling somewhat jarred.

And yet His plans are for our best,
Giv'n for growth or as a "test".
A change may be God's "wake-up" call,
A time to lean on Him for all.

And when He calls us to His side,
Alone in prayer to abide,
This precious time we should not rush
But let Him all resistance crush.

If we flee this holy mission
We may forfeit God's fruition.
What a sad loss that would be...
Not to gain His victory.

"Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed: I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eye-lids, until I find out a place for the Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob."
Psalm 132:3-5 KJV
