Golden Threads

A Prayer

Weave in me a tapestry
With gold and silver filigree,
With red and purple, gold and blue...
All Your shades of richest hue.

Love and beauty intertwine
To make of me Your own design.
Let my threads be clear and bright,
With creativity and light.

Perhaps Your hands will make of me
A work of art which all may see,
Or maybe just a table cloth
Where homeless come to sip some broth.

Maybe You will weave a shawl
For someone old or very small,
Or maybe a warm coverlet
For one whose life is desolate.

When my threads are worn and old,
May they reflect Your heavenly gold.
Woven by Your loving hand
With heavenly riches in each strand.

"The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me..."
Psalm 138:8 KJV

Friendship's Joy

Friendship is a precious gift...
A special tie, a wondrous lift,
Where two hearts seem to understand
And walk together hand-in-hand.

How much enriched a life can be
When two can talk and then agree.
Love and laughter will abound
When friendship's joy is truly found.

"A friend loveth at all times..."
Proverbs 17:17 KJV

The Potter's Hands

To be clay in the Potter's hands is the greatest chance I will ever have to be beautiful...

And I must not try to determine what that beauty may be, or how the finished vessel may look. The Potter is skilled and infinitely wiser and more gifted than I can comprehend.

I am not able to fathom the depths of His creativity and need to be yielded and still in His hands, knowing that to be hand-hewn by the Lord is to become a vessel worthy of honor. He does not create second-rate vessels.

I am mere clay, but in Him I have promise. For He is a loving God and will ultimately make of me the best I can be.

"But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand."
Isaiah 64:8 KJV

With Eagles' Wings

Lord, help me to mount up with wings as the eagle
And soar on a plane which is glorious and regal.
Let the wind of Your spirit swell 'neath my wing,
To lift up and heal me and new strength to bring.

For when I am soaring earth's weights fall away.
The joy which I feel shall worries allay.
In You is all power and glory and might...
... Inspiration to rise up and bravely take flight.

I shall not faint, no longer be weary,
And brightness will light the eyes which were teary.
You are my wind and You are my wings.
Deep in my spirit Your sweet promise rings.

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31 KJV

How High The Mountain?

Sometimes in life
We have mountains to climb.
To surmount them we take
One small step at a time.

Though the pathway is steep
And the mountain seems high,
We should not question
Or even ask "Why?"

For our God is able
To care for His sheep.
We're safe in His care,
For He does not sleep.

When there are stones
In the path we must take,
He will remove them,
Or new pathways make.

As we lean on Him
We will not lose our way.
For He will prevent us
From going astray.

God, in His wisdom,
Has mountains for each.
Though the top of the mountain
May seem out of reach...

He teaches and stretches us.
Then over time...
We will discover
How high we can climb.

"...But we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope; and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us."
Romans 5:3-5 KJV

Wisdom's Waters

The wisdom of the Lord
Is a stream of rich supply.
There will always be enough.
Wisdiom's waters won't run dry.

When we are feeling tired
Or need relief from "drought",
Wisdom's waters will refresh
And wash away our doubt.

Wisdom is a treasure-store
From which we grow and learn.
For all who drink her waters
She will give a rich return.

"How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!"

Nature's Symphony

All nature sings a lovely song,
Harmonious and bright,
As music on a golden harp
God's goodness to recite.

Nature hums her happy tune
And echoes her refrain
Through valley, hill and dale,
To the sea and o'er the plain.

Her worship rising to our God,
Wafting, drifting in the air
To celebrate His glorious gifts,
Creates a symphony of prayer.

Nature sends her eager call
To say, "Come worship and rejoice",
To add our own bright chorus
To her pretty, lilting voice.

"Praise the Lord from the earth... mountains and all hills; fruitful trees and all cedars..."
Psalm 148:7, 9 KJV

Love Is Kind

There was a young girl,
And humble was she.
But she had a friend
Who was mean as could be.

She always was kind
When the friend was not nice.
It sometimes was hard
To pay this high price.

But one day the friend
Was taken aback
By this young girl's kind deeds.
She herself had such lack.

The friend was not happy,
But wanted to be.
Maybe this girl could
Help her to "see".

From this young girl's life
She wanted to learn,
For she had been mean
And got love in return.

Though she had some hurts,
In her heart she now knew
That loving is best.
This girl changed her view.

Discovering Gold

Gold is often hidden in the plainest one we see.
It's probably we'll pass right by this possibility.
To see gold in another we must learn to "see the heart",
A very special gift which the Spirit will impart.

As we grow more sensitive the Spirit will point out
The hidden gold in others where we may have had some doubt.
Gold is God's rich treasure, sometimes really covered.
When we see through spiritual eyes then it will be discovered.

Keys

We may carry keys in pocket or purse,
But also have keys with which we reverse
Those trials in life we all seem to have,
Keys which God gives us as ointment and salve.

When we have questions the first key is prayer.
Using this key saves much wear and tear.
If we have need, it's good then to give.
Giving is key in the best way to live.

Obedience is key to find our direction,
Ensuring our footsteps will have good protection.
God gives us keys for every need,
Keys we may carry to help us succeed.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

The Little Bird Who Flew Too Soon

A Children's Poem

The little bird who wanted to fly
Was really not ready, but wanted to try.
He fluttered his wings, but quickly he found
That he could not fly, and he fell to the ground.

He needed to grow some and strengthen his wings.
Before he could soar he should learn many things.
It isn't a good thing to strike out too soon.
Without good wisdom his life he could ruin.

So he decided that first he would sing.
If he did well, maybe strength it would bring.
He hopped and he sang, yet for flying he yearned.
But only with time little bird skills are learned.

Then one day suddenly he found he could fly.
He flew up excitedly high in the sky.
There were so many places he wanted to see,
So he flew and he flew, 'cause he felt fancy-free.

But he got too tired that very first day.
Even his feathers were blown all a-fray.
He did not think about needing to rest,
And wore himself out in his first flying test.

He simply could not in a hurry grow
And learn all the things that little birds know.
He found he could not on his very first try
Soar to great heights and master the sky.

So he decided that patience was needed
And learning from others, their lessons he heeded.
He would go slower and more careful be.
"This would be better and wiser," said he!

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your
own understanding..."

Pebbles And Stones

Words are as '"stones" when used against others,
Loved ones and neighbors, sisters or brothers.
We would not "stone" someone that we know,
But sometimes in thought a stone we would throw.

Hidden within can be piles of stone,
Even big rocks which we should not own.
The heart may be full of gravel and dust
As "protection" against someone we don't trust.

God helps us love so we don't need pebbles,
Not even for enemies, sinners or rebels.
His love will change us and cause us to show
Kindness and gentleness to all we know.

"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
Ephesians 4:32 KJV

Jesus With Us

Jesus offers healing to the heart
That's filled with grief.
From sorrow and from pain
He will gently bring relief.

He is able to sustain
When we are weak or frail.
In our deepest times of need
His strength will never fail.

He lifts us by His love
And brings comfort for our loss.
He constantly is by our side
To help us bridge across...

...The days and weeks before us,
Which seem too much to bear.
In every waking moment,
Know that Jesus will be there."

"I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you."

Bridges

In life there are bridges which I want to build,
And I want to have wisdom and learn to be skilled.
Some of life's bridges are out of repair.
They will need patience and wisdom and prayer.

We can build bridges of friendship and trust,
But we sometimes need to reach out or adjust.
Forgiveness will bridge over chasms of hurt,
And broken relationship it will divert.

Love and encouragement do much to build
In lives where the rooms with emptiness are filled.
Understanding will span over distance and space
And build a new road paved with beauty and grace.

There are so many places which just need a bridge
To help someone over a hurdle or ridge.
Lord, help me know just how to proceed,
And then to build bridges where there is a need.

Heaven's Gold

I want to have insight far-reaching and true,
That I might perceive from Heav'n's point of view.
For just when I think I may understand,
That's when I find that God would expand...

...My thoughts and ideas to see a new way
Or consider deep concepts that He would convey.
I want to "wait" and not rush on past
The "gold" He would hand me if I run too fast.

For what I first see may be just a glimmer
Of something much greater with heavenly "shimmer".
Whenever He speaks I must "follow through",
For what really counts is God's overview.

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself: but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: anmd he will shew you things to come."

As The Willow...

A Prophecy
April 30, 2008

Even as the graceful boughs of a willow tree gently bend and sway in the wind, we should seek to be pliable in the wind of the Holy Spirit.

The "shape" or "definition" of our usefulness (or service) will change and vary as the Spirit moves through us and in and around us. If we are open we will not be limited in our thinking or in our abilities and will find ourselves doing new tasks with ease as the Spirit guides us.

The Spirit will move quickly and direct those with whom He can work, sweeping from place to place and touching down wherever there is opportunity.

Be open to "variety". Do not look at this with narrow vision, but seek to see as the Spirit sees. Be watchful and ready.

An Interesting Road

The Lord takes us over some interesting roads
And leads us to carry some "colorful" loads.
We may not know what He has in mind
Or what precious treasure He'll cause us to find.

He leads through valleys and up some steep hills.
Some paths are challenges, in others are thrills.
He teaches us balance and shapes us with care
And shows us His ways as we seek Him in prayer.

Sometimes we wonder why He "takes so long",
But often the "waiting" is what makes us strong.
As we trust in Him our faith is increased,
And then through our lives His power is released.

God makes each life to be quite unique.
When we follow Him, He then will speak
And use us to further His Kingdom on earth.
There is no calling which has greater worth.

"Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths."

Gentle Folk

Some folks have "a quiet touch"
And by their love will bless you much.
They don't look for laud or favor,
But their lives have special "savor".

Being near them fosters light.
Their smiles will make your day seem bright.
For they have learned to sense a need.
Their hearts respond in love and deed.

They aren't found on "center stage"
But will write a "gentle page"
In lives that need a little hope
And tender warmth to help them cope.

These are folk of small renown
Who in heav'n will wear a crown.
Each will wear a "royal"cloak.
Precious ones... these gentle folk.

"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth."

Joyful Praise

I offer up a joyful praise.
In thanks to You my hands I raise
In gratitude throughout the day,
With heart and mind, in every way.

You are my Savior and my Guide.
Beneath Your wing I will abide.
There I find deep joy and peace.
Daily worries wane and cease.

Your presence lifts me high above
And fills my day with light and love.
My life is blessed because You care.
My days are rich beyond compare.

"While I live will I praise the Lord; I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being."

Sidetracked

My telephone sure rings a lot.
It sometimes puts me in a "spot".
Time flies if I'm having fun,
But there are things I should have done.

Now I'm running quite behind.
(Maybe others will not mind...)
Whoops! My favorite show is on.
(I wonder where my time has gone?)

I have "stuff" to put away
But see the sun is out today.
I think I'll take a little walk
And find someone with whom to talk.

The wash can wait... I'll do it later.
Work is not my motivator.
I'll just lay these "piles" aside...
It won't hurt to "let them ride".

Omigosh! I lost my keys.
Now my mind is not at ease!
I know I put them here someplace.
THESE problems I don't like to face!

I can't even find my purse.
This day is REALLY getting worse!
Help! I'm drowning in my mess.
This is NOT fun... I confess!

My time is wasted and I'm "spent".
I just don't know where this day went.
I probably should organize.
To make some order would be wise.

If I'm honest, in review,
I can't put off what I should do.
Those things that I don't do today
Simply will not go away!

Spring's Promise

Spring brings a promise of good things to come,
A blessed relief after winter's "ho-hum".
A season of freshness which sponsors new hope,
Spring cheers us on many new doors to ope.

Spring says, "It's time to get going again,"
And paints pretty pictures where winter has been.
She dresses all nature with color and hue
And offers her brightness to me and to you.

She brings a new energy, spurring us on
To join in her fervor and carry her baton.
For spring holds a message of new life for all,
And she eagerly runs to answer her call.

Don't Give Up

In testing or trial don't ever give up,
Though you are weary and have "a full cup".
Call on our God and He will draw nigh.
He knows all your fears and hears every sigh.

Give Him your burdens... just lay them all down.
Let Him bear those weights which cause you to frown.
There is no valley too wide or too deep,
Nor are there mountains too high or too steep.

For our God is able to change and make right
All that would challenge or make you uptight.
In Him are answers, joy and release.
He"ll solve your woes and fill you with peace.

"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end."

A Well-Spring

Help me, Lord, to understand
Your every whisper or command,
To wisely follow what You say
And all Your tenets to obey.

Should my understanding fail
Then opportunity may pale.
To wisdom I will always cling,
As sought-for answers it will bring.

When understanding's waters flow
I will prosper and will grow.
Refreshing comes... a healing stream,
My quest for insight to redeem.

"Understanding is a well-spring of life unto him that hath it..."

Love Encourages

Everybody needs to know
That someone somewhere cares for them.
Though that one be near or far
Their love is as a precious gem.

It's presence is as gold and myrrh,
It's worth is more than can be told...
A precious gift between two hearts
Which can't be bought and won't be sold.

It sparks new life and buoys one up,
Bringing joy and warmth within.
It often brings the courage
Which enables one to "soar" and win.

That one who's loved will often smile,
Knowing there is one who cares,
For love expressed in little ways
A priceless crown of beauty wears.

"A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."

Lots Of Bugs

A Children's Poem

Mommy wonders all the time
Why I like to play with bugs.
I find so many different kinds...
She watches me and then just shrugs.

Butterflies are really pretty,
And caterpillars sure are fun.
Ladybugs are just so cute...
I'm always happy when I find one.

I like to watch the honeybees
As they sit upon a bloom.
When they find some nectar
Then they buzz back to their hive...Zoom!!!

Potato bugs and crawly things...
There really are so many.
I have to play with them outside.
In the house Mom doesn't like any!

God's Patience

How great is God's patience in "waiting" for me
As I try to figure out where I should be.
I will be listening and training my ear
When He is speaking... lest I do not hear.

"Bumps" and experience have taught me to pause,
For if He is speaking there is good cause!
I've learned to treasure the Spirit's sweet voice
Whisp'ring within me... in this I rejoice!

E'en though at times I've missed His direction,
When I look back I see in reflection
That He poured out mercy and grace upon me.
How great is His love... as deep as the sea!

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God..."

A Treasured Tree

Once there was an old, old tree. And it had stood for many years, enduring storms and drought, wind and weather.... and broken limbs....

Over the years many had gathered around its base and rested in its shade. Many found a place of refuge in its shadow. The tree was a symbol of strength, and its roots reached very deep.

It did not lose its leaves or have a season of rest, as some trees do, but was always green and stately and beautiful. The sound of the wind in its branches was soothing and restful.

There are certain people whose lives are like that of the old tree.... who stand for long periods of time.... unwavering in their positions. They have strong foundations, and their lives are examples of deep strength and encouragement for others. They do not waver, though storms may threaten.

And even when they are old and "weathered", they are unchanged. By their steadfastness they are a glorious inspiration to many.....

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit."

A Safe Refuge

Though times may seem tense, in whatever shall be
God is sufficient to watch over me.
I may not see just where I am going,
But He gives me peace and a sweet inner "knowing"...

That He will attend to my every need,
And He will cause evil to shrink and recede.
He will not forsake me... of this I am sure.
He is my covering... in Him I'm secure.

"The Lord will perfect that which concerns me."

Answered Prayer

God has not forgotten the prayers which you have prayed,
Nor forgotten sacrifice which you have gladly made.
He remembers every word - He keeps a good account,
And oft His answers come in miraculous amount.

His lovingkindness and His joy will always far exceed
Our expectations, hopes and dreams, fulfilling every need.
We do not have to ponder whether prayers are really heard.
Our God is faithful to His flock. Of this we are assured.

Many Words

Many words bombard our ears
As the big election nears...
Words designed to change our views
Which we should guardedly peruse.

Our future rests in careful choice.
Let us prayerfully use our voice.
Let us weigh each new detail.
May truth and righteousness prevail.
