A Prayer Shelter

It is wise to stay covered with prayer all around.
It becomes a cocoon in which peace will abound.
The power of prayer is a welcoming shelter
To which we can run from things “helter-skelter”.

We can be strong when all things are shaking
And have inner peace to soothe “nervous quaking”.
We’ll have a surety... a sense of deep calm...
A refuge and shield against every qualm.

Prayer is our anchor for all that we do.
We then are stable in all we go through.
We will not shudder or tremble or fear.
To God we will lift up a listening ear.

“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace (shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace) which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 Amplified Bible

Little Prayers Count

If I’m too “busy” every day
And don’t have time a prayer to say,
Then I am missing chance to bless.
My use of time I should address.

I think of all the folks I know
And seeds of blessing I could sow.
It’s really fun to sow a seed
And then watch how God meets a need.

Throughout the day we will see needs.
A one-line prayer could sow some seeds.
If we wait, we may forget
And that need just may not be met.

Little prayers are better than none.
When we believe, God hears each one.
Little prayers add up to much
And many lives could change or touch.

“The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available (dynamic in its working)."
James 5:16 Amplified Bible

An Answer To Prayer

God is so faithful to watch over our children...

My grandson has attended private school from kindergarten through seventh grade. But this last summer his parents realized that the cost was getting too high, and they knew that the cost of private high school was going to be beyond their reach. So the decision was made that he should transition to public school beginning with eighth grade.

We were concerned for him because he is short for his age and because he didn’t know anyone there. I began to pray that he would be safe there, that he would find good friends and that he would like his teachers and classes.

Two days after I started to pray he went to a park near his home to play frisbee golf (at which he is quite skilled). There were three women there trying to play frisbee golf, and he noticed they weren’t doing very well with it, so he offered to help them.

One of the women asked him where he went to school. He told them he had gone to private school but that this year he would be going to public school in his neighborhood (naming the school)... to which one of the women replied, “Oh, we are teachers there.” So my grandson knew three people from that school before he even walked through the door on the first day.

Only God could have created this situation. He paved the way for my grandson to begin to be comfortable in a setting that was entirely new to him. And I know God is watching over him in every way. He seems to be quite happy there! What an awesome answer to prayer!

“How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.”
Psalm 36:7 KJV

Rest In The LORD

Sometimes if work is a burdensome load,
Or you have been walking a long, weary road,
Don’t be discouraged... find strength in the Lord.
He’ll fill you with joy and bring you reward.

Your labors and efforts have not been unseen.
He’ll bring you answers if on Him you’ll lean.
He’ll give perspective and balance you need,
And then you will know just how to proceed.

Have peace in His timing... don’t shortchange His plan.
He’ll help you to do as much as you can.
Rejoice in His watchcare... He walks by your side.
Rest in His covering... and in Him abide.

“For the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10 KJV

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 KJV

Our Faithful God

Our God is faithful... beyond our most far-reaching imaginations...

For many years I had the privilege of worshiping God at the piano in several churches. I loved it and thought I would never quit doing it until the day I would go home to meet the Lord, (and was hoping Heaven would have a piano where I could continue worshiping in this way). But sometimes life takes turns we do not expect.....

My very elderly mother lived with me, and at age 98 she no longer could attend church. She was fearful of having a stranger come in to care for her, so I chose to stay at home with her.

My heart ached to be able to worship in church. It was hard. But the Lord hadn’t forgotten me. He prompted me to start writing.... a new challenge. I had years of musical training but none as a writer, so I had to trust Him with this new venture. Little did I know how all this would come together. A dear friend prompted me to learn computer and then to start a blogspot. I didn’t know how I would keep that going, but every day the Lord encouraged me. Our faithful God had provided me a new way in which to worship!

And this I have learned..... Even in times when we seem to be detoured from being able to serve the Lord, there will always be a way to share His goodness. He will provide (even including providing new skills) if we are willing.... Always He is faithful!

”Great is thy faithfulness...”
Lamentations 3:23 KJV

“Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.”

Discerning Our Thoughts

The Holy Spirit helps us filter
Thoughts which get us out of kilter.
Subtlety and innuendo
Sometimes enter in with info.

Discernment draws for us a line
By which wrong thoughts we can define.
Sometimes “humor” makes us laugh
But has less wholesomeness than chaff.

Sometimes we don’t realize
How wickedness will wear disguise.
We need the Spirit every day
Our purity of thoughts to weigh.

“Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Philippians 4:8 KJV

Imprints

What kind of “imprints” do we leave behind....
If others should study them, what would they find?
Imprints of love will live on and on
And echo anew with every new dawn.

Blessings we leave bring positive change
And linger with joy and richness long-range.
The sunshine of friendship we offer to some
Is as gold to one whose life was ho-hum.

We won’t be remembered for riches or fame
But more for the fullness of love’s burning flame.
Love makes an imprint which can’t be erased...
Memories which will long be embraced.

“Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything (without weakening). Love never fails (never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end)."
I Corinthians 13:7-8 Amplified Bible

The Power Of The Word

The Word is my shield, my wall of protection.
When in place, the enemy can’t make connection.
The enemy tries to consume every thought,
Making us weary and then overwrought.

But he cannot bypass the power of God’s Word.
In it we’re strong, and his plans are blurred.
We’re set apart and have very clear vision.
Our thoughts are unhampered and have keen precision.

We can think forward and not be bogged down.
The joy of the Lord will be as a crown.
Whatever may come, we’ll have blessed peace,
And from “mind overload” we’ll have full release.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 KJV

Living In Harmony

Living in harmony, one with another,
Co-workers, friends, neighbors and brother...
A goal to be reached for, a very bright note,
A worthwhile quality we should promote.

Harmony has a warmth and an ease.
Tensions it will overcome and appease,
Soothing and calming whatever may rise.
It will not be jarred by “noise” or “surprise”.

Harmony is a choice that we make
And works when our attitude has give-and-take.
It speaks of humility, patience and peace.
From ego and pride it brings sweet release.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”
Psalm 133:1 KJV

You Are Unique

Whatever else in life you do
You never should look down on YOU.
God gave you unique design.
His handiwork in you will shine.

He will cause you to stand tall
And more than reach your goals in all.
You may feel weak, but He is strong.
Should you be down, He’ll give you song.

His giftings in you are replete.
You’re able all life’s tests to meet.
God’s handiwork in you is fine.
Let His giftings in you shine.

“Thy hands have made me and fashioned me.”
Psalm 119:73 KJV

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

He Is My Hope

Our God is greater than all of my doubt.
When fear tries to enter I invite it “out”!
Some of my battles seem too great for me.
So I will trust God and He’ll set me free.

I choose to always be focused in Him,
And though I may tremble, my hope is not dim.
His strength and grace will carry me through.
He’ll bring me triumph in all that I do.

In His loving care I truly can rest,
Knowing He’ll help me to meet every test.
He is my Hope and Sonshine and Light,
His wondrous care makes everything bright.

“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.”

Enjoy Each Day

Too much thinking on the past
Can ruin today and spoil tomorrow.
Fretting ‘bout what’s coming next
Is trouble which we shouldn’t borrow.

Each day’s labors are enough.
Take enjoyment from each day.
“Regret” or “worry” wear us down.
Don’t let these two come your way.

Each day is a lovely gift.
Guard it from dismay and stress.
Let God’s goodness fill your day.
To Him your gratefulness express.

“Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.”

Keeping A Balance

Today’s world offers endless “toys”
For men and women, girls and boys.
The smart phones, toys and games with screens
Have interrupted known “routines”.

Conversation has been lost.
Relationships have suffered cost.
This may need some careful thought,
For cherished friendships can’t be bought.

We don’t take time to think or dream.
We’re caught up in this strange new “stream”...
A constant call of “busyness”
To which we should not acquiesce.

God’s beauty often is not seen
When we’re looking at a screen.
Creativity is dulled
When new ideas could be mulled.

Let us not forget the day
When we took time to read or pray,
To sit and talk with those we love
And share our blessings from above.

“...Ever be filled and stimulated with the Holy Spirit. Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices (and instruments) and making melody with all your heart to the Lord.”

Discerning Truth

We need to teach our young folks
To stand up for what is right.
For truth is on a slippery slope.
Help them know what’s black or white.

Amidst the current thinking modes
Right principles are now a blur.
But if our young folks know God’s Word
Righteousness in them will stir.

The Word will help them to discern
Between the truth and what they hear.
As they stand for righteousness
Their insights will be very clear.

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”

The School Of Experience

Seniors offer priceless treasure.
They have gathered a great measure.
Listen to them... they are rich.
They can help you find your niche.

They held on when times were tough
And toiled hard to have enough.
Understanding learned through trial
Helped them walk the extra mile.

They have learned the need for prayer.
They have loved and truly care.
They had faith to not give up.
They knew that God would fill their cup.

Wisdom learned from years of living
And blessings shared from hearts of giving
Filled their lives with joy and peace.
For they have wisdom’s expertise.

“The (uncompromisingly) righteous shall flourish like the palm tree (be long-lived, stately, upright, useful and fruitful); he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon (majestic, stable, durable and incorruptible). Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.”

Blessed Service

The service which you do to others
May not seem to have much worth,
But it counts for many honors
If the Lord to it gave birth.

Some may reach across great distance,
Some find service where they live.
Some may travel far and wide
Because they choose to share and give.

Any time we spend to give
Will surely bring a rich reward.
What joy have those who live this way.
They’ll have rich blessing from the Lord.

“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you ‘Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me’.”

In His Care

I am grateful for watchcare, I know God is there.
I sense His sweet presence, I know He hears prayer.
In Him I have joy, In Him I find peace.
From all of my fears He brings sweet release.

I rest in His hand, for He knows the way
That I must travel in every new day.
In Him I trust... He’s my strength and high tower.
He covers my life... every day, every hour.

“The Lord is my Strength and my (impenetrable) Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoices. and with my song will I praise Him.”

Autumn Speaks

Summer soon will wave “good-bye”.
Her work is done as Fall draws nigh.
Soon we’ll see Fall’s color flair.
She beckons to us, “Be aware...

“I’m here to make this season bright
And with my color bring delight.
Near and far I’ll paint for you
In every shade and color hue.

“I want my color to bring cheer
And leave some warming memories here.
So when you see snow on the ground
The warmth I leave will still abound.”

Expectancy

Do you have expectancy
Of all the good things God will do...
And know deep down within yourself
Just how much He’ll do for you?

God has only good for you
And truly wants you to excel
He will guide you carefully
And help you to do all things well.

Expectancy in God will give you
Joy, well-being and deep peace.
You will have His careful timing
As He gives you expertise.

Your times of learning in the Lord
Will give you insight rich and rare.
You will have a sense of joy,
And all His goodness will declare.

“Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.”

Creation Speaks

I see God in colors bright
And in twinkling stars at night.
His touch is everywhere I look...
In mountains, trees and rippling brook.

Melodies which bird’s song weave...
And crickets singing in the eve...
The sound of wind in distant trees...
Are nature’s songs our hearts to please.

Creation is a tapestry
Which our God made for you and me.
His “artwork” is His loving gift,
Our hearts to bless and lives to lift.

“O Lord, our Lord, how excellent (majestic and glorious) is Your name in all the earth!”

Being Lighthearted

If you’re under pressure and feel all stressed out,
It’s time to just rest and lay down your doubt.
When some of your weights are too large to bear
It’s time to release them and give time to prayer.

Let Jesus carry the weight of the load.
He’ll help you to rest in a more peaceful mode.
You can be lighthearted, though you work hard,
If you will trust Jesus... and worries discard.

The peace that He gives will help you be still,
Blocking your stress so you won’t be ill.
The Lord knows your limits and what you can stand.
It’s wise to place worries in the palm of His hand.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and over burdened, and I will cause you to rest - I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest -(relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good - not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.”

Jesus Loves Me

“Jesus Loves Me...” children sing.
To these words we all should cling.
If you know this in your heart
Your life will have a bright new start.

Jesus’ love will lift you up.
With blessings He will fill your cup.
He’ll forgive and set you free
To be that person you should be.

You can reach your full potential
And for Him be influential.
You’ll be singing “Jesus Loves Me”.
By His love you’ve been set free!

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Leaning Times Are Learning Times

It’s sometimes good to be in need,
For in these times we learn to “lean”.
When we draw nigh to the Lord
New perspectives we will glean.

The more we trust and lean on Him
The more we’ll learn, the more we’ll grow,
For when we’re in our time of need
New insights we will gain and know.

Learning times aren’t filled with ease.
They may be hard or take some work.
But they will give us understanding
If the “lessons” we don’t shirk.

Until we’ve weathered through some “need”
Our vision hasn’t “opened up”.
When we lean upon the Lord
We’ll drink from Wisdom’s golden cup.

“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him and honour him.”
Psalm 91:15 KJV

“As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him,”

A Good Teacher

We cannot learn patience
If we’re in a hurry,
For patience means “wait”
And “rest, do not worry”.

We cannot rush patience.
She teaches quite well.
In her wise timing
We must learn to dwell.

She’ll make us stretch
And groan as we grow.
But when she is learned,
Good wisdom we’ll know.

Often she saves us
From errors we would make.
She fills us with wisdom
For each step we take.

“But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be (people) perfectly and fully developed (with no defects), lacking in nothing.”
James 1:4 Amplified Bible

A Fruitful Harvest

As the year progresses forth
Out of summer into fall,
What will be my progress
Of these precious seasons overall?

Will I have am ample harvest
Of a lifestyle filled with fruit
As I have traveled through the months
In wisdom’s wonderful pursuit?

When we seek out wisdom’s bounty
Then our harvest will o’erflow.
Each month will be filled with fruit.
It is God’s Word which helps us grow,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Exciting Potential

Have you inquired of the Lord,
“What is my potential?”
When He made you long ago
He gave you a “credential”.

What a journey... to explore
The giftedness He planned for you,
To find His fullness in your life
And not to miss His every cue.

He will cause you to excel,
To rise up in your life and soar.
When you’re thinking “this is good”,
The Lord will always give you more.

Keep your eyes upon the Lord.
Listen for His precious voice.
Seek to find your full potential.
You’ll have much reason to rejoice.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

These Old Shoes

Shoes could tell a story, if they could only talk,
Of places you have been and all about your “walk”.
If you left an imprint, the shoes will surely know.
They’ve traveled with you every day... to them a debt you owe.

They’ve felt your love, and also ire, in every step you took.
You could not hide a thing from them, for they are like a book.
They’ve walked on rough ground and on smooth, their duty to fulfill.
They sometimes had no rest at all, but their complaints were nil.

Nothing else will feel as good as slipping into that old shoe.
They’re much more comfy oftentimes than something which is shiny new.
And this is why we sometimes make a fuss or much ado...
When we can’t find among the new our very special, favorite shoe!

A Treasured Wellspring

Understanding is a wellspring
Bubbling up from deep within.
When you gather understanding
You’ll have “tools” which help you win,

Knowledge which we have from God
Will give us insight and keen vision,
Causing us in all our thoughts
To see with a whole new precision.

Understanding is a treasure,
Surely much to be desired.
We’ll have a wellspring deep within,
From our precious Lord inspired.

“Understanding is a wellspring of life to those who have it...”
Proverbs 16:22 Amplified Bible

“The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning (the chief and choice part) of Wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight and understanding.”

Think Before You Speak

Think about the words you speak.
They may be heard more than you know.
Others your words may repeat,
And they will echo to and fro.

Let your words be kind and good,
Never having ill intent.
Guard the “text” of what you say,
And problems this will then prevent.

Words have power and consequence
Which can bring healing, joy or calm.
It’s truly worth your careful thought
To let your words be healing balm.

“Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the mind and healing to the body.”
Proverbs 16:24 Amplified Bible

“A man has joy in making an apt answer, and a word
spoken at the right moment - how good it is!”

Lovely Days

I praise the Lord for summer days,
For myriad flowers and sunshine rays,
But know the summer soon will rest
As autumn enters in with zest.

We’ve been blessed by summer’s ease,
Her fragrance and her gentle breeze,
With memories of fun-filled days
And all her lovely, sun-filled ways.

With gratefulness and joyful praise
I thank the Lord for summer days
But now await sweet autumn’s hues.
Her brilliance brings its own bright “news”!

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.”
Psalm 98:4 KJV
