Mountains And Valleys

We long to reach "the mountaintop",
To rest and be renewed,
To glory in God's presence
And express our gratitude.

But way down in the valley
There are needs which must be met.
When we reach the mountaintop
Our "friends" we can't forget.

The mountaintop should spur us on
To listen to the cries
Of those down in the valley,
Their needs to recognize...

Voices crying out for hope,
People wanting to be well,
Homeless lining up for food
Or just a place where they may dwell.

We will not be useful
If we stay upon the mountain,
But having reached the top
Our lives become a fountain...

Of encouragement and healing
For a lost and hurting valley.
So as we love and serve there,
To salvation some may rally.

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted. to proclaim liberty to the captives, to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified."
Isaiah 61:1-3 KJV
