Gossips are like grubworms
That live down in the dirt
And look for "roots" to chew upon.
For gossips, be alert!
"Grubworms" like to chew and chew.
Beware that they not chew on you!
What they do is undetected
Till a plant is sore affected.
The gossip thrives on others' news
And like the grubworm chews and chews.
When gossips from the truth meander
Sometimes gossip becomes slander.
Gossip is a friendship-spoiler,
Of peace... a robber and a foiler.
Wisdom says to not tell much
To those inclined toward "news" and such.
"The words of a whisperer or slanderer are like dainty morsels or words of sport (to some, but to others are like deadly wounds); and they go down into the innermost parts of the body (or of the victim's nature)."

In Troubled Times
This is a time to be focused in prayer.
The "news" isn't good, but do not despair.
Media causes our hearts to have fear,
But Jesus will give us His peace and good cheer.
His is the GOOD NEWS on which we depend.
Our "shaky" footings His joy will transcend.
We are not meant to withdraw in terror
But rise up with faith and offer much prayer.
He is our strength in times of great need.
He has the answers... our footsteps to lead.
"Caught up" with Him we're able to stand
And bring inspiration, whate'er the demand.
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof."
Psalm 46:1-3 KJV

With My Song I Will Praise Him
Let worship rise from the depth of my being
And be a sweet savor to my Lord and King.
Let adoration well up and burst forth
And cause a new song of praises to ring.
Let every footstep I take on my "walk"
Be pleasing to Jesus and answer His call.
Let me receive the light of His Word
And find strength in Him for things great and small.
He is my joy, inspiration and friend.
Let all my actions bring praise to His name.
He's my encouragement in all I do.
Let me His honor and glory proclaim.
"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth: and with my song will I praise him."

As An Eagle
Lord, help me to soar as with wings of an eagle,
Graceful and strong, majestic and regal,
Mastering climbs into heavenly height
By wisdom and prayer and well-practiced flight.
I'll glide in wind currents and soar in the sky,
Discerning Your Wind with an eagle's keen eye,
Rising above all earth's bindings and woes,
Studying carefully where Your Wind blows.
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

Much-Blessed
This is the day the Lord has made.
I will look up and not be afraid.
Gladness and joy will rule in my heart.
I will rejoice in Him from the start!
He is my strength... He orders my day.
He helps me each thing to carefully weigh.
He is my peace in all that I do
And helps me to have a bright overview.
I can go forth with calmness and poise,
Evading the enemy's conflicts and "noise".
He is my joy... in Him I will rest.
As I walk with Him my days are much-blessed.
"My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up."

Drumbeats
What drumbeat are you hearing?
What song within you rings?
Is the rhythm which you hear
A beat which joy and laughter brings?
Choose your "drummers" carefully.
Don't listen to a woeful song.
Marching to a worldly beat
Could cause your footsteps to go wrong.
Listen for the heart of God
And hear the sound of His own drum,
Calling all to faith in Him,
Inviting all to hear and come.
"My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God."

Springtime
My calendar tells me it is spring,
But showers are dampening everything!
Flowers droop and bow their heads,
And pools are in my flower beds.
All through March the rains have "squalled"
As pretty weather has been stalled.
My trees, like cotton candy spun,
Are more than ready for some sun!
Fluff and fragrance in the air
Are spring's bright signals to prepare,
For sunny days must follow soon
As springtime sings her happy tune.

Life's Best Key
The will of man is life's best key.
When tuned to God, how blessed is he!
All his footsteps will be right.
His life's pathway will be bright.
When he yields his will to learn,
Wisdom's merits he will earn.
God will guide through ev'ry "test"
And give him of His very best.
If man's will should turn away
Soon his path will go astray.
God has given him the key.
A yielded will will set him free.
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good. and acceptable, and perfect will of God."

Raindrops
There's sunshine in life's raindrops, reflecting Jesus' love,
A Heavenly refreshing which is promise from above.
His "rain" will wash away your tears
Till sunshine once again appears.
Cherish every raindrop as a symbol of His love.
A raindrop on a petal or a leaf which has been dry
Becomes much-needed moisture and the leaf will satisfy.
The leaf wll turn it's face to God
And gently in His wind will nod.
Heaven's raindrops bring new life... the leaf to beautify.
So raindrops are a special gift when we are worn and weary
To wash us and again to make us sparkle and be cheery.
Do not question, "Why this rain?"
For hidden in the rain is gain.
Raindrops filled with Jesus' light will change what has been dreary.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Salvation's Grace
Jesus... No one knows the pain You felt
Or shared Your weeping as You knelt.
In Your walk You were alone
For our shortcomings to atone.
When we think we know, O Lord,
Sometimes we take up a sword
And further wound You by our pride.
Our sins were much for which You died.
Sometimes when WE stand alone
We have small glimpse of pain You've known.
It is then we realize
Your sufferings... the depth and size...
So much deeper, so much bigger
Than our thoughts and minds can figure.
You gave all and took our place
That we might know Salvations's grace.
"The Lord is my light and my salvation..."
Psalm 27:1 KJV

God's Reflection
Do we make room for the Word in our hearts?
Is God's Holy Word in all, or just parts?
Where'er the word rests becomes as a fountain
Of riches and glory from God's holy mountain.
Deep in our hearts, when His Word is stored,
God's wisdom and teaching are richly outpoured.
Discernment is greater, perception is clearer.
Our lives reflect His Word as a mirror.
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

God Still Rules
God is God, and He still rules.
Those who don't believe are fools.
Men who through their pride wield power
Before God's might will shrink and cower.
Though they speak with flossy tongue,
In God's sight all their words are dung.
God discerns the hearts of men
And knows their every wicked yen.
He will turn their words to dust,
For He is righteous, pure and just.
All shall bow before His power.
How much we need Him in this hour.
"The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men."

Freedom In Christ
If you're caught in patterns which are from the past,
Step out of the shadows which may have been cast.
Christ brings us light so we may be free
And blossom into the "flowers" we should be...
Filled with His fragrance and radiant with life,
With no former trace of weakness or strife.
We will gain strength and grow in rich soil,
Covered in grace against enemy foil.
No matter our memories or where we are from,
The Lord's wondrous love our fear will o'ercome.
When no longer bound, but in His embrace,
We then can "blossom" with beauty and grace.
"If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
John 8:16 KJV

Inspired Music
The sounds of Heaven will be rich... inviting to the ear.
No discordant melodies or sounds there will we hear.
Waves of Heaven's harmonies will echo to and fro,
Glorious and beautiful beyond what we now know.
Let us offer harmonies with beauty as we praise.
Let us sing refrains of worth in worship which we raise...
Pleasing to a holy God and glorious in sound,
Music birthed from Heaven's doors, heart-stirring and profound.
"Praise ye the Lord; for it is good to sing praises unto
our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely."

Looking Up
We can choose to "look up" or choose to stay down.
It's better to smile than to wear a sad frown.
As we reach up all our cares fall away
And we gain bright focus to govern our day.
God is our strength through each day and each hour,
A faithful companion, a shield, a safe tower.
We have good reason to always look up...
To learn God's perspective on what's in our "cup".
For He has a plan and keeps track of detail.
The size of our challenge will then start to pale.
And we can move forward with joy in our day,
Assured of His covering and care... come what may.
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe."

Coverings
God sees through the "coverings" we use to hide our sin.
We may fool ourselves, but with God this is "no-win".
We cannot pretend we have no problems or no flaws.
If we think we're faultless, then it's really time to pause...
God is holy, God is just, and full of great compassion,
Willing to extend His grace, our flawed lives to refashion.
When we shed our "coverings" and lay down all our pride,
He gives us HIS covering in which we may abide.
"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."

Golden Words
Pondering the things of God
And all the many paths I've trod
Makes me want to know Him more...
And learn what He might have in store.
His guiding voice is as pure gold...
Wealth of wisdom yet untold.
When He speaks I turn my ear
With excitement then to hear.
Knowing He will speak to me
Spurs me on to closer be,
List'ning for each golden word
And treasuring each word I've heard.
"The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him."

Greater Is He
Deception offers ugly wares,
Packaged in appealing wrap.
It reaches out in myriad ways
Unwary souls to gain and trap.
Oftentimes if we are seeking
Something new and fresh and bright,
This ugly pest is just there waiting
To distract us with it's "light".
Deception tries to sow it's seeds
And offer us alternative,
To draw us off God's chosen path
And blur our thoughts on how to live.
But God is so much greater and
Is able to fulfill our joy
When we keep our eyes on Him
And all His principles employ.
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Procrastination
Procrastination is a drag!
It sends up a bright, red flag.
Delaying things can bring high cost.
Important timing can get lost.
Issues dealt with in prompt manner
Wear a bright and smiling banner,
Bringing order, easing stress,
Making complications less.
Doing things on time is good,
Addressing issues as we should.
Procrastination "waits awhile",
But promptness wears a happy smile!
"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily,
as to the Lord, and not unto men..."

Anchored On The Rock
When things around us falter
And our way of life might alter,
Are we able to adjust
And to lean on God in trust?
In Him we will be stable.
It is He Who makes us able
To be strong, should problems come,
And not waver or succumb.
Though we may be shaken
Our foundation won't be taken.
When we're anchored on The Rock
We're secure when trials knock.
"And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour..."

Spring's Bright Beauty
Crocus blooms and daffodils
Are welcome signs of spring's bright frills.
Then fluffy-petaled, flow'ring trees
Present their fragrant potpourris.
Spring turns everything to flowers
As plants and shrubs become as bowers.
Spring seems bent on blessing us
As she makes her pretty "fuss".
Thank You, Lord, for all this beauty
As spring fulfills her annual duty.
When she opes her pretty door
She brings to us new hope and more.
"Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name."

A Smooth Road
Meekness walks a path of grace,
But narrow is it's way.
It will know it's proper place...
Within it's borders stay.
Pride moves on a bumpy path
With utter lack of poise and grace,
"Scuffing" others, stirring wrath
Because it wants a larger space.
Mildness doesn't seek a stage
Where it has not been led to be,
In competition won't engage,
Of pride it's careful walk is free.
Humility avoids a snare
And travels on a road of grace.
The face of pride it will not wear.
Tranquility it will embrace.

Being Ready
Should God present the "perfect occasion"
To make change and prosper or fulfill a dream,
Would you be ready to "pick up and go"...
To be called into opportunity's stream?
Often we ponder and yearn to be used
But are not attuned as to how to prepare.
God may be trying to bring about change,
But then we are busy and less than aware.
Whatever His leading, we need to respond,
Though sometimes His leading may not make much sense.
He will prepare us in His perfect timing
And help us be ready new work to commence.
We need not fear that we won't be ready.
By Him we're seasoned and fit and equipped.
We then can move in His perfect timing.
He is our Guide, His Word is our script.
"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."
Philippians 1:6 KJV

Castles In The Sand
People build things in the sand
And try to make a castle stand.
But with the wash of just one wave
Their well-formed castle they can't save.
Life is just a lot like that,
Sending "waves" we can't combat.
The waves of time will wash away
Those "towers" we build and hope will stay.
In Christ we build what cannot crumble
As before Him we are humble.
Do not build upon the sand.
What is built in Him will stand.
"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

Learning About Love
Sometimes love is hard labor. Sometimes it is long service... the giving up of self... the giving up of one's time.
Love is a choice. It is a test. In meeting it's test we open a door to rich experience in the Spirit... in the knowledge of God's grace and in the awareness of His faithfulness. As we lean into Him for strength we tap into deep wells of His goodness and wisdom and insight.
While we are yet leaning we are soaring to new heights in the Spirit. Those watching may think we have loss, but in Christ we have only gain.
"And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
Galatians 6:9 KJV

Do Unto Others
I know a man who quietly serves,
And much recognition he surely deserves.
But he will not seek it... that isn't his goal.
The "everyday" things encompass his role.
He does things well and gives of his best,
To bring joy to others his time will invest.
This is a man who serves our dear Lord,
Knowing that He will give him reward.
He is unselfish and serves with a smile
As he sometimes works and goes the nth mile.
The work of his hands is God's love expressed
And causes God's people to be greatly blessed.
"Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."

Strong Family
"Family" is built in love over time
As touches of caring create a strong bond.
Sometimes the tiniest thing we may do
Will "heal" or "fix" or "reach way beyond".
Family "ties" which grow out of kindness
Will never be lost and cannot be broken.
Bonding is strengthened and love is promoted
When words of encouragement gently are spoken.
Commitment to pray and serve one another
Becomes as an anchor against storm and test.
Where family members are bonded in prayer
Then that home will be a haven of rest.
"Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything (without weakening)."

Ruts And Grooves
Sometimes a habit becomes as a rut,
A groove we get stuck in we need to rebut.
Our mind-sets grow weary and then start to lean.
Doing what's easy becomes as routine.
Forming good habits our time will redeem
And create new order, respect and esteem.
It may take hard work to change how we think.
It doesn't just happen as quick as a wink!
We can break loose from habits which bind,
Avoiding old "bents" to which we're inclined.
When our desire to change becomes prime,
Out of old ruts we surely will climb.
"The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness..."
Proverbs 21:5 KJV

A Sweeping Wind
The Spirit of God is as wind o'er a prairie,
Sweeping in power it sometimes will tarry.
If we're alert we will witness His power
As God's hand is moving and working this hour.
The Spirit won't linger when His work is done
But quickly moves on a new course to run.
He touches down in lives which are yielded
Unto God's will and by His Word shielded.
Pray that you'll know the work of God's hand
And stay closely tuned to learn what He's planned.
The Spirit moves quickly, His work to complete,
And often His timing is "sweeping" and fleet.
"When the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."

Laughing At Me
Some days I don't have much "spark".
It seems my mind is stuck in "park".
I must need a "pick-me-up"
Or put more coffee in my cup.
Some days I am just a "klutz"
And "trip" on even tiny ruts.
I think I need to laugh at me
And enter my day merrily.
When my day is "out of sync"
I'll shrug it off without a blink.
What's the use to fuss and whine?
It's much more fun to laugh than pine!
"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine..."

A Tangled Web
The "blame game" is a flimsy shield
Where people try to hide...
A tangled web of "reasons"
Where some folks oft reside...
Blundering their way around
Bare practicality,
Running from the real facts
And facing truth's reality...
Lying sometimes to themselves
About the "nitty-gritty"
And building up a think facade
Which really isn't pretty.
Oh, how sad the blame game is...
A prison it can be.
Owning up to one's own faults
Will heal and set one free.
"Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom."
Psalm 51:6 KJV

An Early Start
While the day is very young, I turn to Jesus first,
'Fore with that day's busyness I soon become immersed.
Then I gain a right perspective how my day should go.
I can move with calm and not be bandied to and fro.
Jesus brings an order for the pieces of my day
And helps me sort it's factors... which are good or which are "nay".
He may even move aside the things I thought I'd do
And call to my attention something urgent, fun or new.
Daily schedules are best made before the Lord in prayer.
That way I eliminate much needless wear and tear.
When the day is very young I make a well-learned choice...
To spend some time apart with Him and listen to His voice.
"The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me..."

Greater Love
Laying down our lives to serve the hurting or the lost
In ordinary terms may appear to have high cost.
But Jesus looks upon these souls as worthy of His best.
We dare not gaze upon their needs with mockery or jest.
Sometimes we're required by God to lay aside our plan
And take the time to help someone... to serve howe'er we can.
Longterm this can be a test of patience and of strength,
But Jesus doesn't look upon the job... it's width or length.
He is taking us to heights above our own perspective,
And we will start to see His plan as we become receptive.
We can be His vessel to show love to one another.
By serving even as He served, with love we bless each other.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
John 15:13 KJV

Sheep
It's so good to be a sheep
With the Shepherd giving keep,
Grazing 'neath His watchful eye,
And sheltered as the night draws nigh.
Listening to the Shepherd's voice
And resting in His flock by choice
Bring surety and comfort wise...
Nurture which His care supplies.
Sheep need cov'ring day and night
For all their needs... however slight.
The Shepherd hears their ev'ry bleat.
In Him they will have safe retreat.

Being Centered
To be centered in God's purpose
Is the highest place to be,
For He is author of all hope
And possibility.
All the paths which He will give
Will lead us to a higher plane.
As we walk upon these paths
Our footsteps He will train.
He will guide and spur us on,
Our highest goals to reach.
Through each new experience
His great wisdom He will teach.
He designs the avenues
In which our lives will rest.
As we follow His design
We surely will be blessed.
"God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect."

Sowing Peace
If we would have a life of peace
Then we must let all conflict cease.
For peace is birthed in wisdom's meekness
And has gentle, mild uniqueness.
Wisdom's righteousness and mercy
Douse the flames of controversy,
Causing strife to bow it's head,
Bringing good will in it's stead.
Wisdom from our precious Lord
Will always bring us blessed reward.
Only here will we find peace...
The kind that brings us full release.
"But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace."

No Longer Blind
Lord, help me see my blind spots
Lest pride be hiding there.
Should I not see clearly,
Please make me more aware.
If I move forth blindly
I might trample on another
By lack of sensitivity to
Neighbor, friend or brother.
Pride will often cut a swath
Where it should not have entered,
Walking on the will of God
Because it was not "centered".
Let my blind spots all be found
And tempered by humility.
Wash away my blindnesses
So I more clearly see.
"God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."

Simplicity's Gift
What ever happened to simple, clean living,
Going to church, sharing and giving?
Folks have lost track of life's simple pleasures,
Rushing right past... to gain worldly treasures.
Simple is best... will always have worth.
Good common sense will often give birth
And open up doors we may not have seen,
God's riches and pleasures to taste and to glean.
Society's treadmill becomes as a race
And has it's own rhythm with too fast a pace.
Oft it's complexity is as a snare,
But simplicity is a breath of fresh air!
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

The Joy Of Serving
Serving the Lord will never grow "old",
For in Him I find rich nuggets of gold,
Waiting to be discovered and known,
Practiced each day, and then to be sown...
So others may see and learn and be taught
And worship the Lord in prayer and in thought.
God is so good and loving and kind
And ready to teach us if we're so inclined.
What rich experience to be in His "keep",
To know and to serve Him and His blesisngs reap!
There is no joy to match such as this.
Those who don't serve Him don't know what they miss!
"Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing."

Distractions
When troubles surround and call for attention,
Let that be a call for prayer intervention.
In order to keep our eyes on our goals
We cannot let problems jar us from our "roles".
The enemy makes distractions and noise
To rob our perception, order and poise.
Don't let his actions bring fear or despair.
"Down-size" the troubles... enwrap them in prayer!
God will sort out our needs one-by-one
And show us quite clearly what needs to be done.
He will make order and give expertise
So we can move forward in calmness and peace.

A Touch Of Spring
A touch of spring would sure be nice,
Better than this snow and ice.
Hurry on, my "springtime friend"
And help this winter's spree to end.
Snow is pretty as it falls
And wraps all things in frosty shawls,
But deep within I yearn for spring...
To watch her showy, flowery fling.
She paints beauty on bare boughs
As she brings end to winter's drowse.
Winter's been here for awhile.
It is time for Spring's bright smile!

No Worry
Time is lost in needless worry.
Then we sometimes have to scurry
To complete the task at hand,
With added pressure to withstand.
Worry is like sinking sand.
It bogs you down by it's demand.
Rise up from this sinking place
And don't give worry any space.
Before the Lord release your woes.
Let Him battle all your "foes".
To pray takes less time than to fret.
With prayer, good answers you will get.
God redeems our time for us
And teaches us how not to fuss.
Worry just is not much fun.
In prayer are our battles won.
"And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life?"

Listening
How much do we long to hear the Lord's voice...
Are we too rushed in Him to rejoice?
Often He waits until we are still
To share of His goodness and speak of His will.
When we are still and ready to hear
Then He will whisper His love and good cheer.
Hearing His voice we find we are changed,
The thoughts of our hearts in Him re-arranged.
In His sweet presence we find His rich treasure
And taste of His goodness in beautiful measure.
Taking the time to listen and "wait"
A blessed dimension for us will create.
"O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee... My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips."
Psalm 63:1, 5 KJV

Emmanuel - God With Us
With us in the light of day,
With us through the night,
With us through our fearful times
Or struggles... even slight.
Nothing is too hard for Him
And nothing is too small.
As we walk with faithful step
He will cover all...
With comfort and encouragement.
We never are alone.
All the factors of our day
Before Him are well-known.
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
Matthew 1:23 KJV

Redeemed Time
I wanted just to sit and write,
But business was distracting me.
An issue which I could not solve
Was pressing in relentlessly.
I could have spent my writing time
Pursuing answers on the phone,
But chose to do my writing first.
Through God the answers would be shown.
Halfway through my writing time
The answer which I needed came.
God had broken through the maze
Which threatened all my time to claim.
While I took the time to write
He went to work in my behalf.
He redeemed my time that day.
My "business" got His autograph!
"The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me..."

Sowing And Reaping
Never give up... continue to sow.
Sooner or later your efforts will show.
Sometimes we think our prayers are not heard,
But when prayed in faith, God hears ev'ry word.
Our labors to sow good seed for the Lord
Will come to fruition and bring rich reward.
Weeping and toiling sometimes may be long,
But when answers come we'll sing victory's song.
Never give up, continue to sow
Good seeds into lives wherever you go.
When you trust the Lord, not one seed is lost.
Rejoicing will come and o'ertake the "cost".
"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."

Covered In Him
Thank You, Lord, for watchcare
In these times of war and terror.
How we need Your wisdom,
Lest we falter or make error.
Guard and guide us by Your hand,
And keep us 'neath Your wing.
Help us walk in holiness
And to Your tenets cling.
Many dangers, threats and snares
Confront us every day.
For Your constant covering
We intercede and pray.
You are able to defend
And stave off all our foes.
On Your power we depend...
To save us from these woes.
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Patience Knocks
If you find it hard to wait
And work yourself into a state,
Such as this you can't ignore,
For patience knocks upon your door.
Patience is a hard-won prize
And can't be learned through compromise.
You must choose to let her in
And let her healing work begin.
Patience is a precious gift.
Your thinking patterns she will sift
Until you learn to be at rest
And lean on God through every test.
He will cause stress to recede
And oversee your every need,
Giving you an inner calm
As a well-earned healing balm.
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."
Isaiah 26:3 KJV

Black And White
"Black and white" is crisp and clean,
Clearly, it's position seen.
But "grey" we need to contemplate.
Usually it speaks "hesitate".
Issues which are not quite clear
Can easily bring problems near.
Wisdom's voice says "study more
All grey's angles to explore".
Pray for wisdom when not sure
To discern what isn't pure.
As you put "grey" to the test,
Remember, black and white is best.
"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."

Prayer Finds A Way
As water always makes a way
To reach it's destination,
Prayer, too, o'ercomes and flows
In quiet celebration.
Prayers ascend the highest wall
And reach through time and space,
Pushing forward fervently
Sweet answers to embrace.
Prayers left in God's great hands
Are clothed and laden with His power,
Able to surmount our cares
And stand with strength through "trouble's" hour.
Prayer always finds a way
And flows with expectation,
Even as a waterbrook
To reach it's destination.
"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

Above The Ordinary
Help me, Lord, to rise above
The issues of the day,
To find the "more important"
And to hear what You would say.
For time can be so wasted
If I don't know Your desire.
If I don't see Your "windows",
Golden timing could expire.
Excitement wells within me
As I glimpse Your will and way.
Your Spirit buoys me up with joy,
Erasing the "blase".
My daily "load" can't hold me down
When I have heard Your voice.
My spirit soars, my steps are light.
In You I will rejoice!
"My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up."

Trends Of The Times
The trends of the times have made people numb,
And oft they forget God's wisdom to plumb.
Truth gives foundation on which we should stand
As flurries of untruth descend on our land.
We cannot let these trends become "norm",
Nor should we ever to "blurred" trends conform.
Discernment will come if we stay in the Word
To always stand strong against untruths we've heard.
Trends starting small may not seem to matter,
But when not discerned God's "order" will scatter.
His Word will help us to see through this "stuff"
And always with wisdom these trends to rebuff.
"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is."
Ephesians 5:15-17 KJV

The Gift Of Silence
Gossip is a "careless" tool.
We should never let it rule.
Info which we should not share
Discreetly should be wrapped in prayer.
When in speech our words meander,
Sometimes they become as slander.
Gossip sadly lacks respect
And lovingkindness won't reflect.
Any "news" which we might hear
To another may be dear.
We can give that one a lift...
To them our "silence" is a gift.
"He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends."
Proverbs 17:9 KJV
"Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly."

Remember His Benefits
If you're facing a high mountain
And you can't see o'er the top...
If you're needing "sunny weather"
And you want the "rain" to stop...
Remember, God has power.
He is a mighty tower.
If you're all stressed out
And new tensions start to rise...
When unexpeted troubles hit
And come as a surprise...
Remember, God brings peace.
In Him, you'll find release.
He'll lift you up and give you grit
Beyond your own ability.
Remember all His benefits.
In Him, you'll have a guarantee.
Remember, God is able
To guard and keep you stable.
"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation."

Knowing His Voice
The shepherd watches o'er his sheep
By day and night his flock to keep.
When He speaks, His voice they know.
Where He leads, his flock will go.
Should a sheep then go astray
The Shepherd goes without delay
To find his sheep and bring his back...
To keep him safe from wolves' attack.
It's good to stay within the flock,
For evil lurks and runs amok.
The sheep who hears the Shepherd's voice
Is sheltered and has made wise choice.
"And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice."
John 10:4 KJV
"If a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?"

Love Is Able
Love is able to transcend and heal that which is broken.
By our actions and our words it's language will be spoken.
Love is humble, faithful, quiet, honest and true-blue.
It will cast out fear and doubt and bright hope will pursue.
Love takes time and deep commitment... sometimes through a storm,
But has a way of breaking through, it's wonders to perform.
In sharing and in caring of another's life to lift,
Love and tender friendship shown become a wondrous gift.
"Love never fails (never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end)."
I Corinthians 13:8 Amplified Bible
"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear..."

Gentle Folk
Some folks have "a quiet touch"
And by their love will bless you much.
They don't look for laud or favor.
But their lives have special "savor".
Being near them fosters light.
Their smiles will make your day seem bright.
For they have learned to sense a need.
Their hearts respond in love and deed.
They aren't found on "center stage"
But will write a "gentle page"
In lives that need a little hope
And tender warmth to help them cope.
These are folk of small renown
Who in heav'n will wear a crown.
Each will wear a "royal" cloak.
Precious ones... these gentle folk.
"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth."

Our Daily Bread
"Give us this day our daily bread..." Surely this was the prayer of many back during the depression years, for not many were working.
During that time our family lived next door to a man who owned a greenhouse, but who didn't have enough money for food. Mom learned of his situation and invited him to come have dinner with our family so that he would have at least one meal a day. He hesitated, saying, "I work in a greenhouse where my clothes get dirty, and also, I wouldn't want to interrupt your family time. But if you will set the meal on the fence, then I will come out and get it."
Now this couldn't have been easy for Mom, because at that time she had three small children and a baby to take care of. But each day she would fix a plate of food for him and take it out to the fence, and he would come out to get it. She did this every day for two years, until one day, when she placed the plate of food there on the fence, he didn't come out... he had passed away.
Mom had seen a need and she met it faithfully every day...
"She stretcheth out her land to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy."
Proverbs 31:20 KJV

Eventide
In quiet hush of eventide
God hovers very near.
When the "dust" of day recedes
His gentle voice I hear.
"The day is done, it's battles won.
Peace, My Child, be still.
Let Your spirit rest in Me
And find sweet sleep until...
"I bring another fresh new morn,
Sparkling softly with the dew...
My gift to you... of Son-lit day
When all is fresh and new.
"In quiet now of eventide,
Hush, My Child, be still.
Let My angels watch o'er thee
And blessings o'er you spill."

Giving Is A Blessing
Giving just a meager cent
To one in need is wealth well-spent.
Sharing some of what you have
With one who's poor is healing salve.
It matters not if you have much.
Give a cent or mite or such.
Share a meal or drink or bite
To aid or solve another's plight.
Giving seems to multiply
And many needs will nullify.
When we give, God gives e'en more...
Riches from His heav'nly store.
"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."
Luke 6:38 KJV

The Beauty Of The Lord
If I could paint a picture
Of the beauty of the Lord
And capture all the love and warmth
In heav'nly places stored,
My paint brush would be filled with life,
My canvas richly hued,
And colors we have never seen
Therein would be debuted.
I could paint throughout all time
On canvas without end
To try to mix the shades and hues
Which He would have me blend.
And when I thought my work was done
There always would be more.
We cannot even comprehend
The "wealth" which is in store.
If I can paint a fraction
Of His beauty with my brush,
The colors will transcend the norm
And be extremely lush.
Every day I yearn to know
And understand Him more.
His beauty spurs me on and on
His riches to explore.
"One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple."

Angels' Song
Oh, that I might sometime feel
The gentle brush of angel wings
And hear them sing or play upon
Their heavenly instruments of strings...
With harp and lute and mandolin,
Their voices wafting to and fro,
With heaven's harmonies and song,
Drifting down on those below...
Myriad voices praising God,
Resounding throughout heaven's sphere,
Echoing their glorious chorus
Blessing many far and near.
In the stillness of the night
I long to hear the angels sing,
Just to know a touch of heaven
And hear them praise our glorious King.

The Rooms Of My Life
If Jesus came into the rooms of my mind,
What would be waiting there? What would He find?
Would negative thoughts and doubt make Him weep?
Would meaningless clutter be piled in a heap?
If Jesus came into the rooms of my heart,
Would He be at peace there, or want to depart?
Can I stop what I'm doing and set all aside
So He can find welcome and want to reside?
Sometimes our Savior cannot find a "home",
For we don't receive Him and cause Him to roam
In search of a life which will give Him first place...
Where the rooms are quite full of His beauty and grace.
"And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth."
Colossians 3:2 Amplified Bible
"My heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God."

Friendship's Caring
The laughter of a caring friend
An aching heart will help to mend.
For love and laughter lift one up
And seem to empty sorrow's cup.
Friendship is a healing tie...
A special love we cannot buy.
It speaks a message of good cheer,
"I care for you and I am here."
It seems to make the sky more blue
To know that someone thinks of you.
It brightly causes hope to rise.
This is friendship's special prize.
"A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."

A Patchwork Quilt
Through the years if I save scraps and make of them a quilt,
The quilt becomes a decoupage of memories which were built.
Happiness and joyful times reside within the scraps.
Every little, special piece a memory recaps.
The quilt becomes a storybook of treasures pieced together,
A coverlet of life well-lived through many kinds of weather.
Some scraps may be poignant or bring a tear or two,
But all the scraps are precious, and sweet memories review.
In the quilt are lessons which in life were taught and learned,
Of sweet rewards and victories which by diligence were earned.
A patchwork quilt has value rare which only will be known
By the life it represents... by whom it's threads were sewn.

The Lamb Of God
To David
The Lamb of God - so precious He
Who died for you and died for me.
This flawless Lamb - Who cared so much
And gave His life for sinners and such.
He saw our plight and saw our need
As on the cross His side did bleed.
The blood that flowed was shed in pain,
But given in love to be our gain.
So great His love for you and me,
His sacrifice upon the tree.
The Lamb of God - so precious He
Who died for you and died for me.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

A Beautiful Canvas
Lord, what would you paint on the canvas of my day?
If my life could speak today, what would You have it say?
Help me to be patient as I wait for Your brush stroke.
Let me wear Your colors as a treasured, velvet cloak.
Would You paint me brightly, as a banner of good news?
Or add to me serenity in soft and gentle hues?
Maybe You would try new shades and make of me a blend
Of a rainbow's varied tints... Your beauty to extend.
I await your brush strokes in the early dawn of day,
Anticipating artistry in fresh and new array.
Each day is a portrait, filled with flair and great finesse,
A painted, heavenly design, Your goodness to express.
"On thee do I wait all the day."

The Foot Of The Cross
Any and all may come...
A place where all are equal...
A place where one can be transparent...
A safe place.
A place of rest for a weary soul...
A place of release for a broken heart...
A place of comfort for the lonely and the hurting...
A place of redemption from sin and shame...
A new beginning.
The Cross... is our friend... is an anchor point in a shaky world.
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

The Ant And The Bee
(A Children's Writing)
The ant was so busy and worked all day long
To gather his food, though he was not strong.
Then he saw a bee who was flying about
From flower to flower, sweet nectar to scout.
Ant
"What are you doing?" he said to the bee.
Bee
"Searching for nectar to take home with me.
I fly to my beehive where honey we make,
For people like honey on bread and in cake!"
The ant thought it over but didn't know why
A bee would make honey for PEOPLE to try.
Ant
"I take my food from crumbs people LEAVE!
That you make them honey is hard to believe!"
Bee
"God made me a bee, for He had a plan
That I should make honey as good food for man.
So I work hard all day from dawn until eve.
For me it is better to give than receive."
"Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Happiness
Live simply... love much... know Jesus.
Live fruitfully... give much... bless Jesus.
Live honestly... work hard... serve Jesus.
Live purely... honor God... love Jesus.
Live humbly... be thankful... worship Jesus.
Live wisely... pray much... seek Jesus.

MOVING
Moving means work... and a time of review.
There are cupboards and boxes and drawers to go through.
Where did it come from... all of this "stuff"?
If we move half of it we'll have enough!
We'll rediscover some things we had lost.
Now we must deal with what should have been "tossed".
All of those things that we tried to collect
We really don't need... as we stop to reflect.
Moving is "painful"... it's not any fun,
And we sure will be glad when it's over and done.
We've learned not to store stuff, and think we will find
We won't even miss that which we leave behind.
This is a picture of how we will feel
As we follow Jesus and learn what is real.
He will make change in our lives every day
And cause all our "baggage" to just fall away.
"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."

A TREASURED TREE
Once there was an old, old tree. And it had stood for many years, enduring storms and drought, wind and weather... and broken limbs...
Over the years many had gathered around its base and rested in its shade. Many found a place of refuge in its shadow. The tree was a symbol of strength, and its roots reached very deep.
It dd not lose its leaves or have a season of rest, as some trees do, but was always green and stately and beautiful. The sound of the wind in its branches was soothing and restful.
There are certain people whose lives are like that of the old tree... who stand for long periods of time... unwavering in their positions. They have strong foundation, and their lives are examples of deep strength and encouragement for others. They do not waver, though storms may threaten.
And even when they are old and "weathered", they are unchanged. By their steadfastness they are a glorious inspiration to many...
"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."

THE LITTLE MAN
When he started his week
He carried a small bag.
Each day it got heavier,
And he started to "drag".
It would be hard
To get through the week.
With this leavy load,
The prospect was bleak.
A Friend came beside him
And picked up his load,
Then carried it for him
As together they strode.
"Why did you do this?"
The little man pled.
"Because I have loved you,"
Is what the Friend said.
"When the weight of the load
Is too much to bear,
I'll carry it for you.
For I'm always there."
"But I do not know you
And cannot give pay,
And yet you'll come with me
As I go my way?"
The Friend looked upon him
with mercy and grace.
The man had ne'er seen
Such love in a face...
His burden was lifted
And he could go on.
The Friend sinmply said,
"Now do as I've done..."
His life was changed
And healed on that day.
He had met Jesus,
"The Light and the Way".
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

PEOPLE WHO INSPIRE - RUTH
Ruth was a woman who had a bubbly personality and who loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a woman of prayer, and she believed in His healing power.
When she was eighty-four she went into the hospital for evaluation of a liver condition. Her husband Milt came to see her in the evening, and as he came into the room he heard the woman in the bed next to Ruth crying. (I never learned the name of the other lady, but will call her Mary for purposes of this story). Milt poked his head in through the curtains around Mary's bed to see what was the matter...
Mary, who was seventy-five years old, had been brought into the hospital with severe pain from arthritis in both hands and both feet. Her hands were very crippled, and her feet were twisted out of shape. She could no longer walk and had been in a wheelchair for several years. She was crying from the intensity of the pain. Milt asked her if she would let his wife Ruth pray for her because Ruth believed in the healing power of God. She said, "yes". So Ruth got up from out of her own hospital bed and went over and laid hands on Mary and prayed for healing.
Around 4:00 a.m. the next morning, Ruth heard Mary call out quietly, "Ruth. Ruth." Then again she called, "Ruth, get up. Come here." So Ruth got up and went to see what Mary wanted. God had totally healed both of Mary's hands and both of her feet. She was excited and wanted to show Ruth.
Mary said to Ruth, "Just wait. I'm going to get up and take a shower", which she did with no help. Then she got herself dressed, and she was able to even button her own clothes, which she could not do before. Now all this was going on without the nurses down the hall even realizing these two women were up.
Mary was rejoicing and she wanted to tell somebody. So she and Ruth went down the long hallway to the nurses' station. When they got there one of the nurses asked, "What can I do for you?"
Mary answered, "Nothing! Ruth here prayed for me and I don't need anything!" She was healed and she was free of pain. Her hands and feet were normal again.
When Mary came into the hospital she was in a wheelchair. When she went home she was able to walk out of the hospital...

ECHOES
That which we live and that which we speak
Will be echoed in time in a way that's unique.
The sound of one voice will be heard in another,
And our words will "return" through a sister or brother.
For we leave a trail as we live day-to-day
Which others will walk on as they find their way.
The "sounds" of our lives echo back o'er and o'er,
For they are not lost, but in others find "store".
If we watch and listen we'll hear a reply
In far-reaching echoes we cannot deny.
Echoes reverberate more than we know,
Extending our lives as they move to and fro...
"A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!"
Proverbs 15:23 KJV
"A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children..."

A MOMENT OF TRUTH
What could be more delightful than a little grandson with a great big smile?
One day I was going to meet my son and grandson for lunch. As I drove into the parking lot, they were waiting for me. My grandson was waving and had a smile as big as all outdoors. As I parked my car he ran over to open the door for me. Then he coiled up the seatbelt because it didn't retract properly. Next he offered me his little hand to help me get out of the car. (It struck me how thin his little arm was). I took his extended hand as I got out, thanking him as I did. Then he closed the door for me.
After all this, he turned to his dad and commented with a bright smile, "We're supposed to help the old ones."
I could hardly contain my laughter as my son was trying to tell him it's not polite to say someone is old. But it was okay. To him I AM old! He was only six. And he was practicing his latest skills in manners he had learned in Christian school.
I laugh every time I think of this. This little guy brings much laughter to my life... he makes me feel YOUNG when I'm around him.

HONORED CITIZENS
Seniors are gold and full of much treasure.
When we "draw them out" we learn of the measure
Which caused them to prosper through times which were hard.
We should esteem them with highest regard.
We have not labored to sow as they've sown.
We have not suffered the hardships they've known.
We have not learned the lessons they've learned
Or even come near the honors they've earned.
Their world is fading from times that they knew,
But values they lived by are worth much review.
When we understand their caring and giving,
Then... only then... will we know about living.
"The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is their gray head (suggesting wisdom and experience)."

GOD'S GREATEST MIRACLE
God's greatest work is done in hearts
When His salvation He imparts.
Who else could bring a sinner home
When he determined just to roam?
Who could make such wondrous change,
A wasted life to re-arrange?
Who could bring a heart of stone
To kneel and pray, for sin atone?
He will reach into deep "sludge"
And save a sinner with a "nudge",
Pouring out His love and grace,
Offering His own embrace.
What an awesome God we serve.
His love is more than we deserve.
No one else could e'er compare
Nor give to us such lovingcare.
"Likewise I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."
Luke 15:10 KJV

And save a sinner with a "nudge",
Pouring out His love and grace,
Offering His own embrace.
What an awesome God we serve.
His love is more than we deserve.
No one else could e'er compare
Nor give to us such lovingcare.
"Likewise I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."

LOVE CAN...
Love can heal a broken heart
And wash away a tear
... or two... or three.
Love breaks down the barriers
And helps us with our fear
... and sets us free.
Love can fill an empty heart
Where loneliness has been
... day-to-day.
Love restores and gives new life,
Bringing joy and warmth again
...to stay... to stay.
Love transforms and changes lives,
Causing a "new day" to dawn
... refreshing... as the dew.
Love is the great healer, bringing
Bright new hope to build upon.
... for me... for you.

THE VINE AND THE TREE
Said the tree unto the vine,
"Why do you lean on me?
You should grow your own strong trunk,
Not wrap around a tree!"
Said the vine unto the tree,
"I can't grow tall alone,
So if I cling to you
I'll get up where I am known!"
Tree,
"But you smother and take over
And my branches cannot breathe.
I need to grow up tall and
I don't like the way you wreathe!
"Therefore, Vine, I counsel you,
Since you were meant to "creep",
I will not let you cling to me.
My mission I must keep.
"It's good to stick to who you are...
A Pretty flowering vine.
You have a different purpose,
And it's not the same as mine.
"So as you stay near to the ground
And cover things down low,
You will be seen by many
As you make your flowery show."
"Every purpose is established by counsel..."

GOLDEN THREADS
Weave in me a tapestry
With gold and silver filigree,
With red and purple, gold and blue...
All Your shades of richest hue.
Love and beauty intertwine
To make of me Your own design.
Let my threads be clear and bright,
With creativity and light.
Perhaps Your hands will make of me
A work of art which all may see,
Or maybe just a table cloth
Where homeless come to sip some broth.
Maybe You will weave a shawl
For someone old or very small,
Or maybe a warm coverlet
For one whose life is desolate.
When my threads are worn and old,
May they reflect Your heavenly gold,
Woven by Your loving hand
With heavenly riches in each strand.
"The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me..."

BEAUTIFUL HANDS
The work of one's hands often shows the love of one's heart...
I have been blessed to come to know two ladies who I think have very beautiful hearts... as evidenced by the work of their hands.
These two ladies, Mabel and Hazel, had been working in a church center which ministered to and helped poor people. When the church center closed down they, along with a few other ladies (Zelda, Linda, Helen, Lois, Gloria and Betty), still had a desire to do something for those who needed help. So they decided to make quilts. One day a week they would gather together at Mabel's home, and would cut and sew and hand-tie quilts. Usually there were four or five ladies working, but toward the end there were only three. When the quilts were finished they would give them to people in need.
This may not sound like a very big thing to some. But because they were willing to do this project over a long period of time, the results were extraordinary. Over a period of six years these lovely ladies made 998 quilts and gave all of them away.
Mabel commented that they only quit their project because it began to cause pain in their fingers to pin and sew the quilts. So they have now given the quilt tops that weren't yet completed to a group who is making lap robes for the mentally ill.
What started out as a small thing amounted to MUCH... simply because they were faithful to continue on. What an inspiration!
"She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy."
Proverbs 31:20 KJV

A NEW DAY
This is a new day... unlike any other.
It does not look back or mimic another.
It gives opportunity for a fresh start
And offers us time, in which we have part.
How will we use it to please our dear Lord?
Where would He send us... or what point us toward?
This precious day offers very wide choice.
When Jesus directs us, then we can rejoice!
It's just "one more day" till we find His design,
And then it explodes into "brilliance and shine".
The day is unique, with His signature on it
And becomes like a lyric and beautiful sonnet.
May all of our days be "signed" by His hand
And have mighty impact as in Him we stand.
May each day be filled and have a rich story,
Accomplish His purpose and bring Him much glory.
"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

His Love
I stood at the window looking down at the beach. And all was still except for the lapping of the waves. It was early in the morning, and the sand was smooth from the washing of the waves through the night.
As I watched, a family with children came walking down the beach. The children had sticks in their hands and were writing in the sand and digging holes.
After the family passed by the sand looked "messy". There were holes and debris everywhere. The serenity I had seen was no longer there.
Then a big wave came in and washed over the whole scene. As the water receded, once again the sand appeared smooth and untouched... as though nothing had happened. The stillness and beauty were there again.
And God spoke... "My love is like that..."
It continually washes and restores...
Even as the waves washing on the beach.
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

People Who Inspire - Connie
I once knew a woman named Connie who had learned to lean on the Lord in a very practical way. Connie was a lovely, young married woman with three small children...
She and her husband had invited our Sunday School class to their home for a backyard barbecue. On the day of the barbecue I stopped at her home around 11:00 a.m. to bring a card table and chairs to her. She was trying to mow the back lawn, but her day wasn't going well. She had a sink full of dishes, wall-to-wall toys, hadn't washed her hair, and one of the children had a problem which needed medical attention. Also, that morning, when her husband left for work, he had asked her to fold all the diapers and laundry in the basement because he wanted to show everyone their new waterbed. When I left she was headed to the doctor's office. I offered to come back and help her, but she said, "no".
In the evening when I returned to her home Connie was relaxed and well-groomed, and her home was in perfect order. She was not at all frazzled, but looked rested. I asked her if someone had come to help, and she said, simply, "No. Every time I felt rushed I sat down and read the Word." She had accomplished a supernatural amount of work that afternoon and seemed to have gained strength and composure in the midst of it.
As we remember to lean on Him in the little things He will give us increase in our days and allow us to accomplish the bigger things He has for us. If we don't lean on Him in the little things we may not ever learn what the bigger things are.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

Reaching Out
A Prayer
Help us to see, to know and discern...
A hand reaching out needs a hand in return.
Some folks in need are quiet and shy.
Help us to hear the depth of their sigh.
Sometimes a smile will bring inner healing
To one who is down in how he is feeling.
Sometimes a touch to show that we care
Becomes as an answer to someone's deep prayer.
Lord, You alert us to those who have need
And cause us to sow some positive seed.
Help us, O Lord, to see as You see
And always a messenger of hope to be.
"...Let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others."
Philippians 2:3-4 KJV

Seniors, Hang In There
If you're feeling useless
Like a flat or limp balloon,
Or if you feel outdated
Like an old and wrinkled prune...
Don't despair, look up and shout!
Don't let your spirit get the gout!
Seniors should not groan and limp
Nor let old age their "style" crimp!
You know more than young 'uns do...
Could show them just a thing or two!
Have some fun... and please don't quit.
We need your wisdom, wit and grit.
By your knowledge and your spunk
You can see through "bunk" and junk.
How we need your common sense
To help us live with confidence!
"The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is their gray head (suggesting wisdom and experience)."
Proverbs 20:29 Amplified Bible
"Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing."

Careful Words
Sometimes the words we speak get us in trouble.
Speaking too quickly can make problems double.
It is much better to give words some thought
Or maybe say nothing till wisdom is sought.
How many problems could daily be solved,
And how many tensions could then be resolved!
A disciplined tongue will measure it's speech,
Lest kindness and friendships it's harshness might breach.
The tongue may be small, but has might and power
To impact for good and bring a "sweet shower"
Of kindness and wisdom to those who have need,
And bring good example while sowing rich seed.
"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow in wrath..."
James 1:19 KJV

Peaceful Waters
Peaceful waters soothe my soul,
Refresh my spirit, make me whole.
Should I pass through arid places
Your pure water "dust" erases.
Waters from Your heav'nly fount
Enable me to climb a mount
Or reach up to a higher plane,
Greater vistas to attain.
Peace is as a living stream,
My anxious moments to redeem,
Flowing out to touch and heal,
God's lovingkindness to reveal.
"He leadeth me beside the still waters."

Planning Ahead
Many people are "at risk"
Because they haven't given thought
To where they are and where they're going,
Using wisdom as they ought.
Time and resource flee away
When we're not diligent to plan.
How much progress have we made
Since the time when we began?
Prayer and forethought cover much
And save us from much wear and tear.
God will simplify our paths
When we seek His will in prayer.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

God's Best Plan
God will give us what is best
If we will give Him "sway".
Anything which we would choose
May just get in the way.
He already knows our needs
And gives us loving care.
His design for every life
Is rich beyond compare.
Following our own "good" plans,
E'en though they may seem right,
May cause us to o'erlook God's best
And miss His timing for "high flight".
All His plans are so much more
Than we could ever dream.
It's wondrous to be caught up
In His purpose, plan and scheme.
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

The Love Of God
If your world is hurting,
Meditate on God's great love.
If you're sick or ailing,
He sends healing from above.
If your life seems harsh
He will lend a tender touch.
If you're just down-hearted
Lift your eyes... He loves you much.
If you feel uncertain,
Know that God is always there.
His helping hand is greater than
The burdens that you bear.
He will gather up lost pieces,
Tying up loose ends.
All which may seem broken
He seals, restores and mends.
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creatures, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

A Hymn Of Praise
Let my life be as a hymn,
A song of worship and of praise,
Breaking forth as morning sun,
A tribute to my Lord to raise.
Let my melodies be bright
As my songs of blessing ring.
Let my music have increase
In adoration to the King.
Let my hymn find echo in
My family and in my kin.
Let this worship never stop
Bubbling up from deep within.
"Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing."

Humility And Grace
He who boasts should careful be,
Lest God's great grace and mercy flee.
Grace is given to the humble.
Boasting causes it to crumble.
He who thinks he "has it made"
Is standing on a slippery grade.
Being overconfident
Can often lead to discontent.
When reality sets in
That boasting doesn't help one win,
God is able then to heal
The boaster from His self-made zeal.
"Humble pie" may then be sweet,
As grace o'ertakes pride and conceit.
Humility becomes the ground
On which a life may be profound.
"The Lord lifteth up the meek..."
Psalm 147:6 KJV
"God resists the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."
James 4:6 KJV

Power In The Word
The Word is a fortress of power and might,
Unshakable, strong and bursting with light,
Resource unending wherein we may dwell,
All darkness and error from us to dispel.
The Word undergirds and makes us sure-footed,
Giving us strength which can't be uprooted.
It is our shield against worldly woes,
Bringing serenity, calm and repose.
"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him."
Proverbs 30:5 KJV
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
Psalm 119:105 KJV
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Psalm 119:105 KJV
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

In Him We Live
Have you ever noticed how
Some folks have good resilience,
Through thick-or-thin and challenge
They just have an inner "brilliance"?
They are never down for long.
They're like a perky jack-in-the-box.
They just have a buoyancy
No matter what their paradox.
They are not discouraged
By the failures of the past.
They put their faith in Jesus Christ
And to His Word hold fast...
Knowing He will lead them on
And cause them to excel.
These folks have chosen wisely
On a higher plane to dwell.
"For in him we live, and move, and have our being..."
Acts 17:28 KJV
"For the joy of the Lord is your strength."
Nehemiah 8:10 KJV

Winter's Pause
Winter brings pond'rings and times to just rest
As hillsides and fields are pristinely dressed
In crystals of frost and blankets of white...
A pause in the year to seek the Lord's light.
As snowflakes fall, or winds blow and storm,
Draw near to Jesus and let Him transform
Your thoughts from last year to a year bright and new
And sponsor ideas for you to pursue.
As you take time to ponder and pray
He will enrich your year day by day.
Winter gives pause when we may take rest
To savor the goodness of God and be blessed.
"The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him."
Lamentations 3:25 KJV

Making Repairs
When we run into a "snag"
And sense there may be a "red flag",
It is time to stop and pray...
To discern a better way.
Systems, plans and hopes we have
Sometimes need some healing salve.
As soon as we become aware
It's good to stop and make repair.
The need for healing, when let go,
The seeds of brokenness may sow.
Paying heed to those "red flags"
Will overcome most snares and snags.
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
Philippians 4:6 KJV

Listening
Oftentimes Grandma would just sit and listen
To others' expressions and what they would say.
If we made mention of why she was quiet,
She would just say, "I hear more that way!"
This comment always would catch my attention,
For she had much wisdom she gained through the years.
We were the ones who needed to listen...
To not "ramble on" but lend her our ears.
Often our minds are too full of thoughts.
If we take pause there is much we could learn
From those who have lived much longer than we,
For we will find wisdom and have rich return.

A New Song
The new year beckons, "Enter in".
Let new "seasons" now begin...
Brand new goals and golden chance
To change our "same old" circumstance...
A time to leave "the old" behind
And maybe something new to find...
Wisdom which will make demand
And cause our thinking to expand.
Change from that which is mundane
In favor of new heights to gain.
With new goals we can aspire
To reach new planes which take us higher.
"And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it and fear, and shall trust in the Lord."
Psalm 40:3 KJV
