A Dusty Road

We sometimes walk a "dusty" road
To get to where we're going.
And on this road we "stretch" and learn,
For here we do our growing.

Our walk is shaped with each new step,
Perhaps by pebbles, sticks and stones.
And sometimes if we stub a toe
Our feet cry out with moans and groans.

Weariness may take it's toll
And cause our feet to start to ache.
Yet we discover loveliness,
Of which our spirit may partake,

For Jesus walks right by our side,
There in fellowship divine.
He wipes our brow and spurs us on
And fills us daily with "new wine".

He points out joys we wouldn't "see"
And lifts our weary sights above.
In humdrum, daily things we face
He gently teaches us of love.

And so our dusty road becomes
A very worthwhile, happy walk...
Experience that we would not trade
And one we would not think to balk.

"Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways."
Psalm 139:3 KJV
